Had an incredible experience. Will probably never get a “normal” massage again now that I know lymphatic massage exists. Lise asked some questions before we started and tailored the experience to what my body needed.
I fell asleep many times throughout the session. Lise’s hands were made to do this work, absolute healing magic.
Afterwards, Lise gave recommendations for stretches and how to release the tension in my neck and upper back.

Bruce is my musical rock. I love having our lessons as a way to keep myself engaged and consistently making music despite my hectic work schedule. I’ve been going to him for many years, starting with vocal lessons and eventually moving to longer combination vocal/piano sessions. It's been really fulfilling putting the technique I've learned to work, especially at karaoke night. The lessons focus mostly on the foundational aspects of making music like breath, posture, phrasing, and technique, and that approach has helped me grow a lot as a musician.
Bruce is, understandably, strict with his time / scheduling / cancellation policy. That’s not unusual for teachers in the arts, and in my opinion it shouldn’t be held against him.
Luis is an incredible hairstylist !!!! I trusted him with my haircut (wanted something super simple- nice haircut and blow dry) for my courthouse wedding and I am so impressed with his ability to make magic with my hair. The experience felt super special from start to finish. He listened to what I wanted and asked for allergies and made sure to know what I had in mind. I wanted something classic and elegant and it turned out better than I ever thought ! It held up beautifully for the wedding - got so many compliments. Absolutely stunning results and flawless service. Thank you for this one on one experience. First time there (big bet on him I know !) but I will definitely be coming back !!!!

Maritza is the absolute best. Her color work is impeccable. She listens and provides excellent advice and is so knowledgeable and easy going. A lot of salons in the bay area have a distinct mean girl energy and there is none of that here. Just good vibes and good work. I live in Los Gatos and found Maritza through a lot of research and there is zero hesitation to travel all the way to Berkeley to see her. If you live around Berkeley and need color, or extensions, or good hair, just go.

I had an appt. Sarina and she took care of me. She knew I was tentative about getting highlights since I hadn’t done it before. She was really honest about much maintenance it would entail. I love the color! and it didn’t take nearly as long as I anticipated. As an added bonus I got to use the Evo scalp treatment which was some refreshing. It was only in for about 5 mins but my scalp feels amazing. It feels cleaner less built up. Like the product and so glad I was able to try it out.
Keana is beyond amazing! Easy to schedule with, extremely responsive, listened, and delivered superior results. My daughter loves the braids and I love that they still look good after 4 weeks! Keana is our go-to braider from now on I highly recommend her!

I’ve been a repeat customer now for about a year and have yet to get a haircut I don’t love, if you’re looking for a spot that is sure to leave you walking home happy then I recommend you check them out. Will say that they have raised their prices from when I first started going here but for the quality of work is worth the price.

I have been going to Jeremiah for my haircuts for a year now. When I got my first haircut from him, I was so happy that he was able to cut my hair exactly as I wanted! But above all, he is consistent. That left a great impression on me. Before that, I struggled to get my hair cut in a style I wanted, even after showing a picture, or the cut would be different each time. So I highly recommend Jeremiah if you need a good cut!

I've been coming to this place since 1993. The owner is like a Bay Area Historian to me. He's seen the neighborhood change through more than six decades. Although I now live on the East Coast, I still make it a must to stop by and get a cut because Harold is one of the best barbers to ever hold a pair of clippers. Best, barber in the East Bay. Difficult thing is no appointments so you may wait 30 minutes or a 4 hours. It's definitely worth the wait for the cut that you can get. Larry's amazing and certainly one of the best parts of the East Bay community. You could tell he loves his people and the East Bay.

The service here is exceptional—Tito and his team are always on time, ensuring I get in and out quickly, which is perfect for my busy schedule.

The Nail Suite is my go to nail spot and one that I recommend to friends and family! It’s a nail shop gem. The inside is super cute and clean and the ambiance is calm and relaxing. All staff who’ve done my nails have been great! I usually see Amy for nail art. She does a wonderful job with any requests or visions you have. Tam is super sweet and takes her time on your nails. The other workers do a nice job and are efficient with time and consistent with nail services. I highly recommend coming here! Appointments can be easily made through their online system.
Lee did my eyelash extensions, gel French tip pedicure, and full body wax, and I’m so happy with everything! She was incredibly sweet, professional, and attentive throughout the entire appointment. My lashes came out beautiful, my French tips look super clean and polished, and she made the waxing process comfortable and efficient. She really took her time and made sure everything was done well. I had such a great experience with Lee and would definitely recommend her and come back again! 💕

Owner is very friendly and funny, salon warm and inviting. Even the other customers were friendly, you can tell they have lots of regulars. Felt more personal than many of the larger places nearby. $75 for a gel mani and regular pedi and they did a great job. Took me as a walk in on a busy Sunday.
This is my first experience at nail salon I was their last customer for the day 🫠 even I felt like everyone was in a rush to go home as the thanksgiving’s Eve. However they took time to get my manicure done quickly 😻 I recommend the work of the men working there he gets things done quickly and efficiently. Only 20 mins🤯

I was looking for a men’s sports manicure. My feet are cracked, cuticle buildup and neglected. No amount of coco butter will hide the cracks and crevices. I came here because they offer a paraffin hot wax pedicure. They treated my feet like surgury. I’m watching the woman dust the dead skin off her apron after sanding my feet down with a Dremel tool. I would like to give a nice tip for dealing with what I don’t.

He’s also one of the kindest and most enjoyable people to talk to. He’s cut my hair, styled it, colored it, and back in the day even permed it. He always does an excellent job. I often ask him lots of questions and for suggestions, and he always gives me ideas that leave my hair looking and feeling great. He also seems to understand color on a whole new level. This is the single most impactful treatment I’ve gotten in a long time. I feel like a completely different person. My entire body feels slimmer, especially my legs, arms, and face. I went through chemo last year, and unbeknownst to me the steroids they gave me for it gave me “moon face”. Thanks to Ida, I have my old face back after just one session. The arm at risk for lymphedema also decreased by 2cm right after the session. I will 100% be returning for more. Thank you so much Ida!!

I bought the hibiscus ultra lift eye cream and the bamboo firming fluid. In hindsight I wish I purchased more but I can do so online. This was without any exaggeration by far the best facial treatment experience I've ever had. I received loads of conscious attention and generous care from Alexandra. The environment was so relaxing and the products of very high quality. One of the things I really dislike about the wellness industry is that, often, we only focus on the customer experience and not the relation between them and the person who offers care, ignoring that the latter can be overworked, poorly paid and exploited, especially in big wellness companies. This is another reason why I think this experience was so amazing. Alexandra is running her own business and is her own boss. Lifesavers! Eric called me back right away, and I was able to get someone later that same day. Dino figured out the problem in 5 minutes, switched out the little piece necessary, and boom, hot water pressure was back on! Bonus: My tenant reports that Dino and he had a great conversation about punk rock and heavy metal. Haha! I am so glad I called them for a second opinion because a different plumbing company tried to charge me $6000 for a water heater replacement! Pelican Plumbing is reliable, reasonably priced (they don't charge unless they fix the problem), and HONEST!! Just give these guys a ring.
Leonard came out and diagnosed our sewage ejector pump. He took his time to see if it could be repaired to see if repairing it could save me some money, but the pump was bad and had to be replaced.
He found a new replacement and installed it. I would definitely call him again. Fair prices!

Fantastic company -- brothers/owners Inder and Daan were excellent communicators, and both showed up on site regularly to make sure their crew was doing exactly what needed to be done. Daan even crawled under my living room himself after a city inspection and showed me how to cap off my crummy old knob and tube. Their crew was polite, and the foreman very patient with my questions about the work.
While the bid I got from FAE was a bit higher than the other bids, they were the only company to suggest moving the panel in such a way that I didn't have to install concrete bollards in my carport -- so ultimately they were the cheapest, since they saved me thousands of dollars (and saved my carport)!
Highly, highly recommended -- they are trustworthy, reliable, and as far as this layman can tell, do fantastic work.
I recently upgraded the electric on my entire 1938 home and garage and I am SO GLAD I chose Berkeley Electric! The entire process was smooth, and my cats and I were able to stay in the home durning the work. As they are a complete service, they finished the walls around all the new outlets and switches, so all I had to do after was paint.
The highlight of my service had to be the doorbell. I loved my old doorbell, but it had old wiring, and had broken. Berkeley Electric not only fixed it, they went above and beyond, as they got it to light up!
They were finished in five days total, which was very impressive given the job. I ran power out to my garage for future projects, so they had to make a trench in the backyard out to the garage. They filled the cement in to match my previous concrete, which looks great. I added recessed lighting in my living room and front entry, which has made a huge difference! It can also be dimmed-which is really nice.
I upgraded my bathroom fan, and the new fan senses humidity and comes on, which feels like the future has arrived at my nearly hundred year old house-without losing any of the charm in the process! I can't recommend Berkeley Electric enough. They were wonderful!
I called Frederic's Electric after I had a power failure following plugging in an electrical leaf blower. I called and Frederic and I had a long conversation regarding the details and possible issues. He showed genuine interest and gave practical advice I could do my self safely. The last year has been eventful and difficult to say the least. There was a fire in the unit above us earlier last year and, while the fire department caught it before the fire spread, all the water used to put out the fire poured down into our unit through the walls, ceiling light fixtures, vents, etc. After the water damage remediation, our unit was down to the studs.
This is our first home and we had been living here for over 10 years without making any drastic changes. We had no idea how to choose a contractor to basically rebuild the inside of our home. We worked with George on a major remodel of our house, essentially down to the studs. From excavation and laying new foundation all the way up to bathrooms, kitchens, flooring, new roof -- George was a consummate professional and excellent to work with.
We are millennials lacking quite basic knowledge in the affairs of construction, but George was not just patient but the quality of his work and attention to detail was amazing -- just the same as if he was working on his own home. He would spend his own time on some of the finest details, like ensuring the wiring was straight or suggesting where to place recessed lights.
Now that we’ve lived in the home for about a year, we can also say that the quality has stood the test of time -- we’ve encountered no significant issues since moving in. Overall, I cannot recommend George enough as a contractor, doing projects large or small.

It is exceedingly rare to find all the qualities you want in a general contractor—top to bottom throughout an organization—but Berkeley Craftsmen delivered them all: exceptional competence and skill, absolute reliability and trustworthiness, meticulous attention to detail, and a genuinely delightful team to work with.
They should really be called Berkeley Perfectionists—in the best sense of the term. We would walk through the house, and someone would suggest moving something “one inch,” and every time they were right. It’s hard to believe, but they cared about our house just as much as we did.
The entire team worked incredibly hard and steadily over the course of ten months. Even when we expanded the project scope—sometimes at their insistence, because they were committed to doing things properly—they stuck to the schedule and finished on the promised date. Literally no one could believe it, but we moved in on the day we had agreed to at the start.

We worked with Matt on a huge project overhauling our backyard, and he was fantastic from start to finish. After spending too much time, and too much money on rebuilding our backyard, there was clearly something missing. With very little time before hosting a work party, I asked Nathan to perform a miracle. And perform he did! I asked for more mature plantings and sod to make the yard look complete. Not only did Nathan do a masterful job of picking out plants for our space, but he had it all planted, mulched, and even had time to mow the sod before our big day. We liked our new space before, but after Nathan and crew got their hands on it, we love it! He put the frosting on our cake, or jewelry on our ball gown. I spend time outside every day now. Five years ago, the team at Planted Earth installed a drip irrigation system in our yard to replace an old spray irrigation system. The new system is more flexible, allowing us to adjust placement and flow level as plants mature. MB Complete Tree removed a very large redwood that had its burl and roots pushing up our foundation. Matt sent a great crew that did an amazing take down and removal. They also ground the huge stump. The crew worked hard and kept the area safe and did an excellent clean-up (including neighbors) after each day of work. I give them an unqualified 5 star recommendation.
A really wonderful dentist. I drive all the way to Berkeley from Sacramento to see them. I have a rare medical condition that has specific implications for dental health. They've been accommodating and proactive -- doing research where necessary to make sure that I'm getting the best care possible. I've also never had an attempt to upsell cosmetic work here; no discussion of whitening or veneers, both of which I had every dentist mention every single visit the whole time I lived in Los Angeles. Do I have to bill back to insurance? Yes. Have I ever had a problem with that? No. Ultimately, billing back to insurance (as others have mentioned in their reviews) is a very small tradeoff for me when compared with having a dental team that I trust.
Both of my kids started coming here since their very first dental exam. All of the dentists and dental hygienists are excellent. The office staff are also very helpful. Had billing issues in the past with dual coverage, but it has resolved. The revised process is now seamless.
This dental practice is outstanding. Professional and also friendly. They are conservative in their treatment plans but follow my dental health closely, always explaining the considerations and options.
Dr. Ruehe is incredible. My kid was very nervous about the dentist and Dr. Ruehe & her team have made our experience so positive. They have been kind and understanding when my kid has been reluctant to participate in the appointment. They never forced him and after several visits he easily and happily goes to the dentist! The team at aloha pediatrics takes the time to explain what they are doing and lets my kid know what to expect. I highly recommend them!

Sometimes you come across remarkable people with with a heart of gold. Dr. Kami is one of those people. I had to fly very unexpectedly to Berkeley on a Sunday. The very next day, my tooth was really hurting, and I knew something was wrong. I called Dr. Kami’s office, deciding on him after reading reviews, and oh my gosh, the man is brilliant and kind. Not only did he fit me in (on the Office lunch- Thank you Annie) he took time to actually talk to me and get to know me. I found this to be UNBELIEVABLY kind because I don’t live here and it’s very clear from my address and insurance. But he took time and he asked me about who I was and then informed me that I would need a root canal, which pretty much terrified me. He reassured me that I would be in good hands and was able to get me in with Dr. Priya O’Callaghan at Endo Specialists. I am preparing to leave tomorrow, but I am going to include a visit to his office the next time I am here to discuss Aesthetic procedures. I’ve come to learn that my root canal is due to grinding, and my teeth are suffering because of it. I’ve heard he is an incredible Aesthetic Dentist so with my daughter going to school at Berkeley, I’m coming back here to see him.

I’ve been to a few places before and this is the first time I felt like someone really understood what I was dealing with. The adjustment was quick but super effective, I felt way looser when I walked out. I’ve already booked my next visit because I actually want to go back, which is saying a lot. I'm so blessed to have discovered Breathe Health Center! Dr. Mia is filled with wisdom, is intuitive and is truly a master of her craft. My body, mind and spirit feel so much more aligned after our sessions. I've also experienced a Reichian breathwork session with her which powerfully moved stagnant emotions through my system. Liz is an amazing massage therapist and is so in tune - I felt so relaxed and regulated after the massage. The administrative staff are warm and considerate. I couldn't recommend this place more!
Honestly i was kinda blown away, I came in with a messed up neck from sleeping wrong and felt way better after just one session. The massage part was solid too the therapist found knots i didnt even know existed which was impressive and kinda painful but good painful if you know what I mean. My only small complaint is the booking process online was a bit clunky, took me a few tries to get the right time slot actually. Parking in the back was easier than i expected and the space itself was calm and clean the music is actually nice not that generic spa stuff. Overall really glad I went, will definitely go back its one of those places that makes you wonder why you put it off for so long.
I met Dr. A when I was 13 months pregnant with my second child and unable to walk or even sit due to what I later discovered was a ruptured disc in my lumbar region. While my HMO initially advised me to wait out the pain, offered opiate painkillers I was not comfortable taking, and recommended exercises I could not perform, Dr. A traveled to my home for my initial session and actually looked at my back and body. Her first adjustment enabled me to walk taller and longer than I had since my initial injury. When I had a setback and my progress stalled, Dr. A correctly identified that I had a ruptured disc and helped arm me with information needed to advocate for more invasive medical intervention that was also pregnancy safe. In addition to adjustments, she took time to connect me with a stabilizing belt, exercises, and ways of moving that helped me function enough to do things like watch my 4-year-old, take showers, prepare quick meals, and slowly but surely build strength and endurance. Through it all, Dr. A demonstrated again and again her incredible gift for trauma-informed body work. At a time when I didn't trust anyone to touch my body--myself included--I knew I was in good hands with Dr. A. She is gentle and confident, sincere and compassionate, and she possesses an innate ability to listen well and connect deeply. From our first meeting, I felt safe with Dr. A. This safety and trust helped me not only move again but also rebuild my own trust in my body and in myself. I returned to Dr. A after giving birth as I dealt with recovery for both c-section surgery and my ruptured disc. She laid the groundwork for physical and mental recovery, giving me the confidence to move forward--body and mind--in a healthier way for myself and my kids. Today, I am back to work, able to hike, hold my kids, and once again feel strong in my body. Thank you, Dr. A for helping me return to my life and body in a deeper, richer way.

Berkeley Dog and Cat is a wonderful veterinarian hospital. I have been coming here for over 20 years after taking my dog to numerous other vets to find out what was wrong. They figured out her health problem right away and she went on to live a long happy life. Now I take my cat there. The vets are top notch and the front office staff are kind and welcoming.
I first started coming here because it was the only place locally that doesn't have any hot yoga and am glad that worked out haha. Ann and Claire are wonderful. I highly recommend Ann for vinyasa and Claire for more mindful, slow meditative work. I do not recommend Suzanne.

I had a wonderful prenatal class with saraswathi - so knowledgeable, so powerful and transformative. The space is large and full of light and all equipment is provided - she really took care of me with the right supports and blankets. A 2-hr class on a sat morning can seem long, but I really feel like this time is needed during prenatal time to open up and ease in and out of the practice. The time flew by! I’m leaving with lots that I can do at home as well to prepare for birth. I highly recommend for moms to be (if you are going between now and June I’ll see you there!).

Had an incredible experience. Will probably never get a “normal” massage again now that I know lymphatic massage exists. Lise asked some questions before we started and tailored the experience to what my body needed.
I fell asleep many times throughout the session. Lise’s hands were made to do this work, absolute healing magic.
Afterwards, Lise gave recommendations for stretches and how to release the tension in my neck and upper back.
When I got home, there was a noticeable difference in my face, neck and body. Definitely decreased inflammation all over. Feeling great! I’ll definitely be back!!

I LOVE this place. Genuinely the best deep tissue massage I’ve ever gotten, and that’s a huge compliment because I’ve had countless massages at many different spots. After my surgery I initially worked with a UCSF pelvic floor therapist that my surgeon referred me to, and I was very unhappy with them. When I switched to working with Victoria at PFTB my care greatly improved and my healing progressed faster.
I cannot recommend personal training with Gretta Kirkby highly enough. I began my work with her at SOL in Berkeley to increase the benefit of my physical therapy. Gretta and my therapist worked well together to expedite my healing. The training helped me to use the exercises my therapist gave me, supplemented by exercises Gretta suggested, much more effectively than I would have been able to do on my own.
I continued working with Gretta after my therapy had ended not only to keep but to improve the strength I’d gained. I enjoyed the training so much I now work with Gretta on a weekly basis and have for over a year. My balance has improved, my muscles are stronger and my endurance has increased.
Gretta is wonderful! She consistently goes above and beyond for her clients. She is exceptionally friendly and easy to talk to, and makes me feel very comfortable. Gretta adjusts the training to fit the pace and needs of the client. She listens to my concerns and goals and comes up with a program that works for me (how much time I want to spend, etc.) to help me achieve those goals. Gretta consistently invites me to email her throughout the week if I have any questions. She is professional and efficient but also a lot of fun and the time goes quickly! I look forward to our training sessions. On a scale of 1-5, Gretta deserves at least 10 stars!

I came to Dr. Alison Winters as a complete disaster—mind, body, and soul 😂 Between chronic neck pain, upper back pain, lower back pain, tendinitis, terrible sleep, and a high-stress job on top of it all, I felt like my body had essentially filed a formal complaint against me.
After just a few sessions, I noticed a difference. If “factory reset” for humans were a thing, I’m pretty sure acupuncture with Dr. Alison would be it. Beyond being very knowledgeable, she’s also warm, personable, and easy to talk to. She takes the time to understand what’s going on and never makes you feel rushed. She’s recommended supplements that’ve helped with my sleep and stress levels as well. Needless to say, I’m so grateful I ended up in Dr. Alison’s capable hands and would recommend her to anyone who’s looking to feel better physically, mentally, or both.
That has got to be one of the most incredible massages I’ve ever gotten! I didn’t have to tell her anything, she found all the knots on her own and firmly and specifically worked through them. Knots that I haven’t been able to get out in years!

I've been seeing Juliana Kramer for acupunture and occasional massage thearpy for nerve pain in my hands, arms and feet for the past four months. At first I wasn't sure, but after a few visits I noticed a real improvement. My arm and foot pain have both gotten much better. I appreciate that acupunture helped without needing pills. Juliana is skiled, caring, and I would definitely reconmmend her to anyone dealing with nerve pain. I'll keep coming back for treatments.
Charles has taken care of me whenever I've needed acupuncture for many, many years. He's helped injuries heal. He's helped my nervous system regulate in periods of overwhelm. Just today I saw him because I had a bad fall yesterday and needed some overall support for healing. He's such a gentle man and an expert at what he does. Highly recommend. He has a sliding scale and is priced very reasonably, generously so.
Dale has played a big part in healing two sports-related injuries. He's extremely knowledgeable and equally friendly, and I'd recommend him to anyone recovering from pain/injuries.
I've received traditional acupuncture sessions for 50+ years from a variety of acupuncture providers in Bay Area, and at last and none too soon, I discovered this superb and experienced acupuncturist! Her office is comfortable, clean and professional, scheduling with a receptionist in the office. Nancy herself is older and wiser than other acupuncturists-she just knows where to put needles after understanding what you need/want in a brief q and a health conversation. She "gets it" and gets to work! My primary reason for this review of Nancy's practice is Nancy-non-judgmental, very caring and experienced, she listens, providing the best possible outcome of presented issues. Also, she doesn't try to sell you herbs, teas, treatments that so many less experienced try to include. Just the basics with compassion, simply and powerfully, reasonably priced.
Abigail is a genius, a gifted healer, an encyclopedia of nutrition, Chinese medicine, and overall health. She listens carefully and with empathy, then uses her vast knowledge and next-level intuition to treat you and design a program for you if you want one. She refreshes and deepens her knowledge by digging in to your specific issue, often finding new resources to send you after your visit. She never gives up, no matter how elusive or mysterious your challenges.
I came to Abigail because I was so run down and my immune system was reacting all fall and winter long, every year. I had blood sugar and adrenal issues. I was exhausted.
I'm amazed to say I now don't get sick any more often than the average person. I generally sleep well and most of my blood sugar issues are gone. I no longer take adrenal supplements. And my energy is back.
Abigail also greatly reduced my (very) long Covid symptoms through acupuncture and nutritional changes.
She also helps me in the more traditional ways with pain relief when I have an injury or my chronic new problems are hurting me.
I would not have thought it possible that a practitioner of any kind could help me with my mystery problems. But Abigail is very very special. I can't recommend her highly enough.
I appreciate the availability that the clinic has for last-minute and regular appointments. The sliding scale is very accessible. The space is warm and peaceful and spacious, even just knowing that it exists is a balm.
This place is such a gem! Everyone is so kind and intentional with their care. My pain has been significantly reduced and the sessions have never been too much for my body. I’ve been to several acupuncturists in the bay and this place by far is the best ? so thankful for them!!
I just got my license. Cintya did such a good job at teaching me how to drive and is the nicest person ever. This is the best bay driving school and I highly recommend!!!
