Asked for and received a quote from Rick in February of 2024, for demolishing my mother's backyard cottage, and one fence, including digging up and carrying away the poured pier-type concrete foundations of the cottage, bringing electrical, water, and sewage lines down to the surface, and cleaning up. Added to the quote was an optional junk handling and hauling fee. Initial quote was lowest of several bids I had for this work. Quote additions were extremely reasonable and handled very professionally. Service and work quality were professional, friendly and very high quality. They took all my junk accumulated over years in the basement garage and carefully swept up after. Initial estimate of engagement's duration was 5 days and they did it in 4, including an unexpected add-on demolition of the back fence. They also use Marin county's Zero Waste waste stream, which is important to me - I want my junk to have the best chance of not ending up in the landfill. They picked up every little fragment from the demolishing and the junk hauling that was at all reasonable. The dirt left behind is otherwise spotless. Now I'm just left to decide how best to remediate the holes in the ground left by the things I requested they dig out. An entirely expected outcome. They were professional, helpful, attentive, worked with me on deciding how to handle special waste my mother had hidden away for years under the structure, and everything they touched looks clean and well kept. It's been a long time coming and much appreciated. Photos are of structures they demolished, and of outcomes. Very happy with their service. Would recommend without reservations.
My wife has been going to see Aisha and I can give you my honest opinion from my perspective. Almost every other person she has had do braids for her has caused her some type of stress or anxiety. Vichida is the literal best hair stylist I've ever been to! I've been going to Vichida for two years now and I will not let anyone else touch my hair! She has such an eye and does a fantastic job. I had one of my best hair services experiences at Lola just recently. My stylist is Laura who was wonderful! She actually listened to what my (mid-term) vision was and executed perfectly and did a lovely job! So many stylists do what they want to so that you walk out with some type of look that they feel is a reflection on them, but it's the antithesis of being a good stylist that complies with the client's wishes. Requested style: I have a bit of a grown out pixie that I want to transition to a bob. The proportions are completely different, as are the lengths, so it will look transitional, but nice with some attention to styling until we get there. Laura did a great job of asking, listening and communicating the plan to gain my agreement and executed it beautifully.
Hair type: I have fine to medium hair that is naturally curly - not tight springy curls, but challenging for some nonetheless. She takes time to get a feel for everything and listen to you before diving in.

My stylist was Johnny and very attentive and listened to me explaining what I wanted. My goal was to cut off 3-4 inches and do long layers with some blended curtain bangs. He did a phenomenal job and made sure to keep my hair looking full and rounded in the back as I requested. I have long fine semi wavy straight hair texture with a lot of hair! Johnny did a wonderful job in achieving exactly what I wanted and delivered my desired results!
I don't usually write reviews, but this one is long overdue. Redd is exceptional, both for her skills and for who she is as a person! She has been cutting, coloring and styling my hair for years, and now cuts my daughter and son's hair as well. After a visit to her salon, I often get asked who cuts my hair or who colors my hair. She is very selective about the products she uses, so you can trust that they are safe, including the straightening/relaxing treatment she uses. She is genuine and caring. You should definitely go see Redd. Once you do, you won't go to anyone else.

Ok so some backstory here .. boy mama of "2 under 2" suffering from postpartum hair loss .. I was going thru the weirdest phase of hair growth and was so nervous to do anything drastic .. I also have super resistant hair when it comes to covering my grays -- only 2 colorists/stylists have successfully covered grays lol .. and to sweeten the deal, I have a very interesting texture; my hair is coarse, fine and wavy. Alas, I've officially found another who can handle my hair!! Joelle made sure I was comfortable with her game plan -- over a year later I still continue to sit in her chair. She treats my hair with such TLC and makes great recommendations for what my hair needs. I went blonde again for the summer and the integrity of my hair was still there, I was shook! I've had others fry my hair off or it turns out brassy as the weeks progress -- my hair never gets brassy with whatever products this salon has or whatever she uses. My grays grow also grow in gracefully and blend right into my color so it doesn't look like a hot mess. Hair is currently thriving and everyone always compliments my hair whenever Joelle does something different to it cuz it literally never looks bad AND it's growing! My hair has seen some terrible days before and it's been awhile since it's been this thick and healthy! So grateful for her!! Thank you, Joelle for always loving up on my hair!
I've FINALLY found my Bay Area stylist and salon! After shopping around for the past 6 years, I've settled in with Alex for cuts and color this year and I'm so relieved. I visited first for her to correct color I disliked that I'd had done elsewhere; and then to correct a cut I disliked that I'd had done elsewhere; and twice now for regular maintenance. I'll be back again.

I grew up a natural blonde; in my 20s and early 30s my hair started darkening to the point that people who'd known me forever thought I was blonde, while people I'd just met thought I was brunette; and then I had a baby: after postpartum hair loss, my look rapidly turned to a dull mousy brown-grey. So when I go in for color, I'm just trying to turn the clock back a decade—subtle, natural, convince everyone else I look like I imagine I look, but like you didn't do anything at all—easy ;)
Anyway, Alex nails it. I've tried boosting my old sun highlights with three other stylists over the years, and none came close. Between appointments with Alex I half convinced myself I'd magically turned into a natural blonde again. My mom thought so too!
Also, not critical to me but a plus: the salon is nice and stylish without feeling overdone, and I appreciate that I don't feel pressured to be chatty when I'm tired. All together, exactly what I'm looking for.

The nail technician Imie is incredibly sweet. She took care of my ingrown toe nail extremely well! She was so gentle and methodical. This salon also uses the best non-toxic polish! Wonderful, clean salon, wonderful staff! I can understand why there is a long waitlist but I promise this place is worth the wait! Imie truly cares about her clientele! Forever thankful for how accommodating and kind she was so that I could go into my hiking trip as painlessly as possible!

the most reasonable prices for gel mani and pedicure in the neighborhood. they consistently do a great job from the last 2 years of going! the owner is a really hard worker and runs a small shop.. she is always good with quoting estimates wait times (i get really annoyed by this lol.. and she's always gives me real-time updates and options to book times so im never having to wait). you need to make sure you call in advance to book an apointment ideally and call before you go to see the wait time situation so you don't spend your time in the chair.
tldr - they are very transparent, go a great job, and have the best price in berkeley hands down for gel mani/pedi.

I just got my hair done last night and I must tell you that I am extremely OVERJOYED and AMAZED by the EXCELLENT work that was done on my hair by Fatu and by the assistance of her daughter Thelma! Fatu was KIND, PATIENT, and PROFESSIONAL in a very down to earth way! I felt comfortable the moment I walked into the shop. I have never gotten my hair braided before with extensions so I was PRAYING that I picked the RIGHT shop and GOD answered my prayers! Fatu worked on my hair for 6 hours and over the course of that time her daughter Thelma (who is also very talented) assisted her. She too was very pleasant! Fatu was also VERY understanding of any reservations I might have had being as it was my first time getting my hair professionally braided.The price was VERY reasonable and EVERYONE that I saw in that shop yesterday left with their hair looking MAGNIFICENT!I came late afternoon so I presume these people had come much earlier. I had my first facial ever with Andrea today and it was wonderful! The space is so positive and peaceful. I assumed that facials were more for skin health and aesthetics but I was most impressed by how relaxing the whole experience was. I appreciated that the products used leaned natural but effective like manual honey treatments. Andrea was so gentle. I felt pampered and was still able to get gentle extraction with ultrasound technology (new to me) and I left feeling refreshed without any redness or irritation.

I have nothing but praise for Alexandra and will gladly come back. Her manner really puts you at ease. I was really nervous but her warm, inviting space and personality make for a calming experience. She is really fast and uses good technique and products. I have reactive skin and the irritation was very minimal with a fast recovery. She is also very responsive, we had to reschedule at the last minute and she was really accommodating.
I booked a same-day facial at Spa Orgánica and it was AMAZING! The location is great, the spa suite itself is quiet and relaxing, the products used were top notch and my skin looks incredible. I have been coming here for decades, even though I don't live that close anymore. I don't get a lot of services, but I swear by Vida's lash tint. I have also had waxing of various body parts in the past and everyone was great. The staff is pleasant and helpful. I've never had a problem with their online booking. For me, when a health or beauty business has been around for so long, it's proof they are doing something right, and it's easier to trust them with services you need done properly.
So glad I chose to work with Cameron at War Horse Tattoo. The shop is amazing and Cameron was awesome to work with - he's knowledgable and an incredible artist. So so pleased with a deeply Collaborative Process with Dylan on a blackwork sleeve and another very integrated leg piece. I called on three different plumbing companies to identify the root cause of a kitchen sink backup. The only company that delivered in a timely, informative, and actionable way was LJ Kruse. I had never used them before and was pleasantly surprised. Gabe explained the issue he identified in a non-condescending and accessible way, then obtained a detailed quote for me which I received by email quickly. I booked the appointment for the two day job, which involved dismantling a deck, removing pavers, breaking up concrete, and connecting the kitchen line to the main line. I then had multiple calendar conflicts and had to reschedule TWICE. Amber helped me both times and was incredibly gracious even though I was making things hard. Excellent customer service. When the timing got sorted, Gabe came out two days in a row to get the work done. He provided regular updates, safety precautions, photos of pre and post work he did underground, then put everything back together to make the area look spotless. Great experience start to finish.
I called Albert Nahman plumbing when ordinary measures to open a drain didn't work. Charles came to the house and saved the day. This is an old house, with some older plumbing. Charles figured everything out and all is well (YEA!) Really couldn't have been a better outcome! Thanks Charles!

Mathew found ways to incorporate and blend in pieces and plants I wanted to keep, and found clever ways to reuse some existing features (e.g. large rocks) that elevated the space. The crew that demoed and installed was notably careful, and detail-oriented. David and Troy have been coming by monthly for garden maintenance and doing an exceptionally meticulous job. The entire team's craft is admirable!
Over the last year, the plants in the garden have quadrupled in size, and almost every plant has blossomed a flower at one point in time. It's been a real delight.

We hired Planted Earth to completely renovate the landscaping around our house in Oakland. This included design, demolition, earth removal, hardscaping (multiple retaining walls), decking, planting, lighting, and irrigation.The results were spectacular and working with Mick, Ann, Manuel, Carlos, and the various crews was great. Mick and Ann were attentive and hands on during the design phase, incorporating our ideas with their experience and helping us to understand the full process. They are holistic in their approach, considering soil condition, native plants, irrigation and drainage, and fitting into the local environment. They are clear to present the pros and cons of various decisions and didn't try to sell us extra work at any point.The build phase went as smoothly as possible. Planted Earth tries to work with the same crews as much as possible, building strong relationships with talented professionals. Everyone was kind and conscientious, even when our dog tried to apprentice himself as a landscaper. They gave us advance notice when work could be disruptive (e.g. concrete pour) and tried to minimize the disruption as much as possible. We always felt like we knew what was happening and where we were in the process.Planted Earth continued to be available as the work wound down and the new plants took. Small issues with irrigation, questions about plant care, etc. were addressed promptly. We feel like we have a personal relationship with Mick et al. and have recommended Planted Earth to our neighbors. We wholeheartedly recommend them to anyone with a residential landscaping/hardscaping project!
Matt was very easy to work with, and made many useful suggestions about our project. It was to remove an old redwood deck that occupied most of our back yard, build some new redwood steps from one of our rear doors, build a balcony for the other door, and do some grading, hardscaping and improve the drainage. There were a few minor issues, but all of them were easy to resolve, and most were mentioned to me by Matt when he saw an unexpected problem. He was not the least expensive contractor we spoke with about this project, but his work was great. My one complaint is that his crew could be more careful with the landscaping they were not working on, but it was more an annoyance than any real damage. From all the contractors we have dealt with this summer, this was indeed a minor problem. I would use him again in the future.

A really wonderful dentist. I drive all the way to Berkeley from Sacramento to see them. I have a rare medical condition that has specific implications for dental health. They've been accommodating and proactive -- doing research where necessary to make sure that I'm getting the best care possible. I've also never had an attempt to upsell cosmetic work here; no discussion of whitening or veneers, both of which I had every dentist mention every single visit the whole time I lived in Los Angeles. Do I have to bill back to insurance? Yes. Have I ever had a problem with that? No. Ultimately, billing back to insurance (as others have mentioned in their reviews) is a very small tradeoff for me when compared with having a dental team that I trust.

Feels more like a visit to a Berkeley home of old friends vs.a sterile office.setting. Relaxed chill atmosphere that totally takes the stress out of going to the dentist. They stay on schedule, too, so I rarely get to read the magazines I enjoy, that are current issues, or have time for a cup of herbal tea.

Dr. Carole Miyohara goes 1,000% above and beyond, and has done so for all three of our kids for over 15 years. She is by far our favorite dentist and health care provider. She is incredibly thorough, knowledgeable and gives the aloha spirit with her beautiful welcoming smile and demeanor. Our youngest son has special needs so she sees him when the office is quiet and there are no other distractions. She is so amazing with her gentle care and gracious heart. We appreciate her so much, and the whole office staff too!!!
I don't write reviews often but feel compelled to in this case. My family of four went to the same beloved dentist for almost 15 years. We had to switch because of issues with insurance which was hard as we really loved their practice and the people. We felt fortunate to get referred to Dr. Boeck's office and that they were able to take the four of us at the time we needed. But far more than that, I want to express my gratitude for who they are as a team and how they work. Charlene, the office manager is amazing, responsive and very supportive. I had a cleaning yesterday with Sarah, and I have to say, I am certain it was the best dental cleaning experience I have ever had--no exaggerating! I highly recommend this practice and am so grateful my family was able to find them and work with them.
Dr. Ruehe is incredible. My kid was very nervous about the dentist and Dr. Ruehe & her team have made our experience so positive. They have been kind and understanding when my kid has been reluctant to participate in the appointment. They never forced him and after several visits he easily and happily goes to the dentist! The team at aloha pediatrics takes the time to explain what they are doing and lets my kid know what to expect. I highly recommend them!

I could not be happier with the care they receive from Berkeley Pediatrics. Every staff member is an extremely competent, huge hearted person that goes above and beyond for their patients. Special shoutout to Dr. AnneMarie Franks, whose gentle humor and wealth of knowledge make her nothing short of a hero in my eyes. Every time one of my kids are sick, they are seen right away and shown a ton of compassion. I'm sure I come off as cold or rude at times due to my fears, and my family still receives nothing but respect and empathy in return. I am extremely grateful to have found them. Best chiropractic care in East Bay. Had head and neck severe pain status post auto injury insult. After the first visit pain decreased markedly. After three visits gone. My primary care doc ordered x-rays and mri dx. imaging which I took with me to my visits which were very helpful in fine tuning the tx. plan. Very competent and up to date care. Dr. Anfang is now retired I understand. Will be difficult to replace. Can't rate high enough.
I love coming to this warm, cheerful office and getting adjustments with Dr. Sue. I've seen big improvements in my lower back pain. My weekly visits are a top priority. When I have to miss a week due to travel or whatnot, I do not feel as good overall and am much more likely to feel back stiffness. So Dr. Sue is keeping things in check and on track with this body.

They were with us for the entirety of my labs 12 years from his first shots till being put to rest last August after cancer. My dog was wounded. I got an appointment that morning. Vet tech was kind and gentle. Doctor cleaned and examined her wound. She was thorough and caring. I saw 4 other dogs come in that morning. People and animals were all calm, unafraid. The best experience I've had at a veterinarian. Doggy is back to her old self in 12 hours. This is my new vet!
We've consistently had a great experience with all of the staff, vet techs and veterinarians at Berkeley Dog and Cat Hospital. They've taken great care of our dog who has a rare and serious bleeding condition, both in the acute emergency as well as outpatient settings. For primary care we currently see Dr. Sirkis, who is great. Even though our dog's condition is very rare, she takes the time to research questions we have to give us an informed response.
I love Yoga Kula - every time I visit the Bay Area I make sure to take some classes here. This place oozes authenticity, inclusiveness and relaxation. The teachers are great and offer a varied selection of classes. I am so grateful that I came across this gem and long-time Berkeley yoga haven many years ago - I have never found a place quite like it. ????
After more than four years between classes, I was so happy to return to Heather's class in person! I was pleasantly surprised to find that Adeline has moved to a new, even better location, just a few doors up. This class was exactly what I need, and I especially appreciate the helpful title: "Continuing Beginner," that's me all right! September will be 9 years I've been practicing yoga, but (almost ) half of that has been (almost) entirely on Zoom so getting in-person adjustments is a welcome change. This studio combines meditation and workout. Studio provides lots of variety of classes. There are excellent teachers there. Although not all are excellent in my view, of course. Yoga mat, blanket, blocks, straps , and tea are available for free. There are many sessions like sound healing, specific trainings, etc... apart from membership. This studio is large and has an open feeling to it due to windows and sunroof. The studio is elegant.
Amazing teachers and great vibe - very much recommended. Great value vs other gyms as well. I wasn't familiar with Bikram Yoga prior although I practiced many other forms of Yoga. The heated space really up levels the experience and I can totally let go and really engage with my body in a healthy way. Teacher's provide a great balance in which you're "pushed" only so far you're getting the best out of yourself including honoring you're own limits. Overall very much recommended!
The shala is beautiful, and the space is inspiring. I dropped in while in town. Vance was so welcoming, and offered assists and gave great pointers. I HIGHLY recommend this place for anyone visiting the east bay, or frankly anyone within driving distance. Worth the trip. Hope to be back soon!

I am an active sports person who periodically needs a muscle fix or work over. I stumbled on Ren after looking around for a knowledgeable practitioner. I was impressed with the way she listened, approached my issues & suggested solutions. After a session & a few days later I realized that she nailed the muscle group and I was on the path of recovery. I continued with more sessions & later incorporated an overall body work-up. I definitely would not hesitate using her again.
I reached out to Eli to treat myself to a birthday massage, and I was far from disappointed. Eli is warm, intuitive, and a skilled practitioner. He took care to make me comfortable and was very attentive when I shared about how my body is doing. The massage was all around wonderful... I cannot wait to book my next one!

I have had great results for my pelvic issues with PHRC, with Tiffany Ai Lan Vo and other PT’s there. The support staff is also very supportive, welcoming and competent in dealing with the insurance maze. Thank you Lisa Topete. I got excellent PT care, support and guidance there and highly recommend PHRC.
I went to PHRC after a mountain biking accident and healing of my fractured pelvic bone. The scar tissue buildup was restricting my range of motion and made bike riding painful. After much research, I found PHRC as the only PT clinics in the North Bay providing both strengthening training and manual therapy. I’m completely past my injuries and in a better physical condition than before my fall accident.
Hello, today is my last visit here,so I must add my review. I absolutely recommend East bay pt. Starting with the owner Dave; he is a professional with unstoppable abilities and energy. He listens! My number one priority. Second the therapists are wonderful; working with whatever your need is. Knowledge and caring, all of them! I'm particularly grateful for Rosa! I highly recommend SOL Physical Therapy in Berkeley on Fourth St. The facility is nice. I am working with Aaron and Damien. They are knowledgeable, understanding, listens to your concerns and recommends the appropriate therapy plan. I had hip replacement surgery and my recovery has been excellent under their guidance. My one comment is that it was hard to get in as quickly as I wanted and appointments are not always readily available. However, they make every attempt to accommodate your schedule.

I highly recommend Teo Potts, LAc. I began working with him less than 6 months into Covid after my excellent, longtime MD-acupuncturist retired and sold him his practice. I interviewed Teo by phone along with others, which was enough to recognize his special qualities of empathy, deep listening, and curiosity for learning with me how best to approach a recent diagnosis I’d received from my Western doctor with Chinese medicine. He’s helped me make a healing addition to my daily diet, added very helpful herbs to my supplements regimen, and deepen my self-care in physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual ways. In the four years since we started working together, I have not once doubted my choice.
A few months after making this shift for myself, I started bringing my then 93-yo aunt (for whom I was caring during the pandemic) every other week. Her trepidation quickly turned into enthusiastic anticipation, as her sessions offered both some relief from her complex health issues as well as the opportunity to be seen and embraced by Teo’s warmth, wisdom, and care. It was a precious healing connection during a uniquely challenging and disconnected time.

Dr. Kim is a miracle worker! I've had chronic back pain around my shoulder blade (where I hold stress) for over a year. I spent so much money on massage therapy and chiropractors but finally went in for acupuncture treatment and WOW, the pain is nearly non existent after one session! I can't express how wonderful it is to live pain-free because I forgot how it felt. Dr. Kim, and acupuncture made a believer in me and I am forever grateful to her practice! Highly recommend coming to see her if you have any ailments. She is so calming, and absolutely amazing at what she does!
Dr. Alison is your girl! I saw Dr. Alison for two years & she helped me in so many ways. Being a working parent has many stressful moments & I had so many symptoms I couldn't keep up. Dr. Alison provided the exact environment I needed in these moments. We talked about all the things, she got to know me & found the root cause of the many symptoms I was experiencing. I will be forever grateful & recommend this to all that are seeking a holistic approach to healing.

Quick review update July 2024: Love Ivy's new space in Berkeley and it's even more conveniently located with plenty of parking in a quiet area! It's so great the space has expanded services to include bodywork and workshops ! Definitely book your next massage with Rhea, she is intuitive, attentive, kind and I felt like she really curated our session to meet my body's needs in the exact spots that I didn't even realize I was holding in so much tension.

This review is long overdue. I saw Ivy back in 2022 over four months and she was an integral part of my healing. I initially went in to treat my chronic pain in my lower back and an acute knee injury, but I came out of the treatments renewed not only just physically, but also spiritually. Ivy’s holistic approach to healing taught me a wealth of knowledge. It allowed me to see health in a new perspective that my body isn’t just the muscles or ligaments of the pain source, but there’s an underlying energy source that needs to be addressed to. I've really felt the difference in my daily life especially during a difficult time of processing grief. I'm feeling more centered, balanced and present :) I would highly recommend Ivy, the attention and care she puts in cultivating an inviting atmosphere with her kindness is top notch.

My first time back to BAP since 2019--and my first time at their Solano Ave location! I hurt my lower back on Friday at the gym and knew it needed attention. I'm so grateful BAP has hours on Sunday. Jorge is a wonderful acupuncturist: kind, attentive to my specific issue, and truly tailored the care to bring me relief. I left BAP feeling so much better and will be back again! I've received traditional acupuncture sessions for 50+ years from a variety of acupuncture providers in Bay Area, and at last and none too soon, I discovered this superb and experienced acupuncturist! Her office is comfortable, clean and professional, scheduling with a receptionist in the office. Nancy herself is older and wiser than other acupuncturists-she just knows where to put needles after understanding what you need/want in a brief q and a health conversation. She "gets it" and gets to work! My primary reason for this review of Nancy's practice is Nancy-non-judgmental, very caring and experienced, she listens, providing the best possible outcome of presented issues. Also, she doesn't try to sell you herbs, teas, treatments that so many less experienced try to include. Just the basics with compassion, simply and powerfully, reasonably priced.
Dr. Anahita Forati at Golden Leaf Acupuncture is amazing! She made me feel comfortable right away and really listened to my concerns. Juliana is extremely generous with her time and an all-around lovely human. When you're with her you know that you're in the hands of someone who cares about you and your health and making you feel as good as possible. I always leave feeling relaxed and loose and like I'm ready to take on my week. I also love that Juliana really *hears* me when I tell her about something that doesn't feel right in my body. She trusts my own intuition and that's something I struggle to find in other venues. It feels amazing to have someone listen to you, someone who keeps updated on multiple aspects of your life from week to week, and who is genuinely determined to make your life as healthy and happy as possible.
