801 N San Mateo Dr, San Mateo“From the beginning of my theraphy of a fractured left foot, Leada was very professional and had a concern for what my therapy would be. She listened to what my goal was which is getting back to my Zumba and has helped me tremendously. She has given me wonderful exercises not only to strenthened the broken bone in my foot but exercises for the back and hip to keep everything aligned. Thank you Leada.“
“I was a bit intimidated with weightlifting when I started at Gym Class Rocks years ago, but it was the perfect place to get started. Not only was the owner of the gym, Shannon, very accommodating in teaching me the exercises and helping me adjust the workout to my specific needs, but the entire community of women was as well. Once I started getting stronger and was ready to increase my weights, I could look to this wonderful community of strong women for inspiration and advice on form, weights, and life. And, perhaps most important for me, whenever I skip several weeks due to life getting in the way, I am always welcomed back by Shannon and the community as if I hadn’t been gone at all.“

930 Cole St, San Francisco“I first recommended to ASP from a teammates parent when my older daughter Nelly tore her ACL in high school. I was so pleased to to see the care and patience they had for her in her recovery and helped her back to return for her senior year. Excellent staff and a very knowledgeable team that developed a perfect program for her needs. It eventually lead her to major in Kinesiology in college and currently is wrapping up her masters. I was so pleased with their professionalism that we enrolled our youngest , currently in 8th grade, in a program for her strength and conditioning. They were able to detect a possible injury waiting to happen as my daughter tended to walk inward which could’ve lead to a knee injury. I’m glad to say they fixed the problem with a great program. She’s been there for almost 2 years and had comments from several coaches on how strong and fit she has become ( not so lucky for those who play against her lol). If you are looking for overall conditioning orRecovery, this is the place to be. It also prepared my daughter , not only for the physical part, but the mental. She built her strong mentality that ultimately got her accepted to her future high school SHC ! ASP is perfect for the mind and body!!Thank you Jack, Jared and Hannah at ASP!!!“

507 S B St, San Mateo“First, a bit of background. Over the past few years, due to the pandemic, I've been holed up at home eating and drinking excessively without exercising, and my weight has skyrocketed. My belly has also puffed up, and since I mostly write code while sitting, I start to have neck & back pain.
Under my girlfriend’s coercion and persuasion, I started looking for personal trainers near the Peninsula. I found that most options were either large gyms offering training courses or personal trainers at regular gyms. However, regular gyms are too crowded for me, and the equipment is unhygienic, so they weren’t an option.
One day, I stumbled upon Wayne’s social media account account and saw that he shared a lot of useful information, including dietary advice. His fitness philosophy resonated with me, and he owns his own studio, which has a good environment and complete equipment. Since it's by appointment only, there are very few people, which fits my needs. This studio is located in downtown San Mateo, and there’s a small parking lot right behind the gym, making it very convenient.
With a try-it-out mindset, I took classes for two months, and the results were remarkably significant. I train every Wednesday and Friday at 8 a.m., with each session lasting an hour. I highly recommend my coach, Mark. He’s a very approachable guy who excels at encouragement-based teaching [doge]. He creates tailored plans for me; I have mobility issues with my left arm and neck, and he focuses on these areas during our sessions, providing me with suggestions for exercises to do at home. Since I’m reluctant to go to a gym, he also teaches me exercises that I can do with just body weight and simple dumbbells or kettlebells. Throughout the course, Mark has been very professional and meticulous, carefully demonstrating each move and correcting my form. He always asks if I have any questions, patiently explaining the muscles targeted by each exercise and its purpose and significance. Overall, after two months, my body fat has significantly decreased, my strength has greatly improved, and my upper body flexibility has also improved quite a bit. I've also learned many specialized exercises that are suitable for me. I highly recommend giving it a try!“

2301 Carlmont Dr, Belmont“Kip is probably the first trainer who ever really listened to what I was saying and had a realistic path to progression. It's the first time I really saw the benefits of fitness training as opposed to just suffering without seeing any results. I wish I had someone like Kip 20 years ago. Kip is about action and focus which is what you need as a beginner when there's so much noise out there. He often brings equipment for home visits which is a benefit since you can decide what you might want to get next for your home setup. When it comes to sessions in the gym he can help you get the most out of what's available there too.“

143 South Blvd, San Mateo“I’ve been coming to The Fitness Farm for a couple of years now and really like it more than any other gym I’ve been to. The facilities are great — really nice flow of both indoor and outdoor space to work out, great selection of machines and weights, and a variety of other equipment and floor space for dynamic/functional exercises to do if machines aren’t your go-to. There’s really something for everyone here!
Also, Dr. Kelly has been my coach for a few years now. I can say with certainty that he’s very knowledgeable, receptive to all the changes I’ve needed in my workouts over time, and is always responsive and supportive. The whole community here is friendly, respectful, and encouraging. I’ve always enjoyed coming here when I can get a workout in, and have really missed it when life gets in the way. Would highly recommend The Fitness Farm!!“

Todd has been able to help me overcome old sporting injuries to my shoulder, knee and help strengthen my core again to to support my back. I have dropped weight, put on muscle and feel stronger now than I have in years. Todd listened to my needs and the results speak for themselves. Highly recommend.“

I can honestly say my experience at CrossFit Fog City was excellent. I was only in San Francisco for about a month and needed a gym, so I signed up for a temporary one-month membership and I couldn’t be more satisfied.
The gym is massive and has just about every piece of equipment you could ask for. The coaching staff was awesome great programming, fun classes, and a really positive atmosphere. Gordon, the owner, was extremely responsive and welcoming, which made the experience even better.
Whether you’re in town temporarily or looking for a long-term fitness home, I highly recommend checking out CrossFit Fog City. The space and community are amazing!“

23a S Railroad Ave, San Mateo“I had the pleasure of working with an incredible personal trainer, Tayo, for almost two years, and he helped me get in the best shape and version of myself for my wedding. I had gained weight during covid in 2020 and he helped me lose the weight, gain muscle, confidence, feel the best version of myself and getting in the best shape of my life. Tayo was very committed to my success. Tayo's passion for his work was evident in every session we had together. He wasn't just a trainer, he was a motivator, a mentor, and a genuine cheerleader throughout my fitness journey. Has positive energy encouragement pushed me beyond my limits, and I found myself achieving milestones. What sets Tayo apart is his genuine care for his clients. He wasn't just interested in the numbers on the scale, but he actually cared about my overall well-being and confidence. His attention to detail and ability to tailor workouts to my strengths and weaknesses made each session challenging yet incredibly rewarding. I love the feeling I get after I have a good workout with Tayo. All the trainers and staff at fitSF are incredible and know what they are doing. You can tell by seeing how happy their clients are at the gym. My wedding day wouldn't have been the same without training at FitSF studio for the big day and I'm forever grateful for the positive impact Tayo and FitSF studio had on my life. They are truly amazing people. I'm no longer working out but I miss seeing Tayo, John and some of their regular clients and trainers there!“

70 Elk St, San Francisco“Jeff is great! He came to our place a few weeks in a row to help me and my husband correct our workout form/posture. I love it that he uses different analogies or explanations to help me understand what the correct form should look like, and also helping me create a workout program that can help me build bone density. He has a great attitude, is always punctual and is also super responsive to all my email/text questions. Thank you, Jeff!“

673 Grand View Ave, San Francisco“I recently had the pleasure of working with Marty, and I can’t recommend him highly enough. I came to him with two main goals: addressing some knee pain and improving my dance performance with a more well-rounded approach to strength and mobility.
From day one, Marty’s depth of knowledge and passion for movement stood out. He has a strong background in kettlebells, but he doesn’t limit himself there. He brings an interdisciplinary lens, always connecting the dots between strength, mobility, longevity, and real-world performance. He’s rigorous and detail-oriented, with an incredible eye for form. Instead of just running me through sets, he made sure I understood the “why” behind everything we were doing.
He very quickly identified the root cause of my knee pain, and gave me precise exercises to fix it. Within weeks, I felt a real difference.
Beyond rehab, he looked at my dance training and lifestyle, and challenged me to think about what my “missing link” was to not only take my physical base to the next level, but also set myself up for longevity. He’s savvy about how to personalize training to your unique situation - not just in movements but also how you incorporate training into your lifestyle.
Each session was essentially a mix of training and hands-on education. I didn’t just get stronger from working with Marty, he taught me how to think critically about my movement, my longevity, and my potential. He’s essentially a fountain of knowledge (he’s got a LOT of passion, and you can tell he does a vast amount of self-study because he loves it!), and his eye for detail and corrections are on a class of its own.
He’s tough and rigorous in all the ways you want a coach to be, and if you truly dedicate yourself to the work and to being the best student possible, results are sure to come.
Im grateful to Marty, and recommend to anyone thinking of working with him!“

second floor, 2275 Market St ste d, San Francisco“I rarely gush over a place in a Yelp review that doesnt serve Amazing Food or is a hotel in front a beach but here goes. I joined Alex Fitness in early March 2020, just before the pandemic and have loved it so much I stayed for 4 years now. (their Google/Yelp reviews are close to perfect for a reason) I enjoyed that AlexFitness is a family-owned gym, led by Olga and her team, offers a welcoming and supportive atmosphere that's hard to find elsewhere in the area. Not only is the pricing more affordable than SF Fitness or Live Fit nearby, but the quality of the equipment and the less crowded space make for a relaxed workout environment without some of the more distracting and more disruptive gym behavior that I experienced at a lot of packed Corporate gyms in the area. The machines are good quality and well-maintained, the place is very clean, providing everything needed for a solid workout. Although I haven't used the personal trainers myself, I've did observe them to be very professional with their clients. A big added bonus, the location is fantastic - right on Market in the Castro, making it super convenient. I cant reccomend Alex Fitness enough this is the spot.“

225 Frederick St, San Francisco“I found the firm from a friends recommendation to see Chris after dealing with some low back challenges that kept creeping up when I would incorrectly train. The Firm offers private group training, so a 3:1 ratio of people to trainer. I found it a great way to get personalized help without paying private training rates. Highly recommend Chris or Gary, they both are very kind/professional/taught me a lot on form. JJ the owner is also very nice and was almost always there when I was in. The community is nice and felt very comfortable/supportive and helped me stay consistent. The only con is the times to book were pretty competitive to sign up for especially for morning slots.“
“The owner is amazing, positive and for healthy living. They're always nice when I come!“

3450 3rd St STE 4C, San Francisco“If you're looking for a personal trainer who can MOTIVATE you to get your butt to the gym and establish fitness habits for life, Dane is your dude.If you're looking for a personal trainer who will thoughtfully craft a program just for YOU (including your nutrition) so you can achieve that goal of yours - whether it's gaining strength, losing weight, or something in between - Dane is your dude.Dane knows what the **** he's talking about, and his programs simply work.BACKGROUND:I came in weighing 172lb and classic "skinny-fat". With some on-and-off gym experience, I had never fully committed to my fitness regiment and my body proved it. I needed someone who could tell me what to do, keep me accountable, and help me establish a habit of exercise to keep me healthy for a long time.First session with Dane was a free consult where we talked my history of fitness, reasons why I couldn't keep consistency/progress, and my overall goals. Dane listened, took contemporaneous notes, and even gave me basic nutrition recommendations to consider before we started working together.A few days later I began my first session, and Dane took it from there. He designed a plan that fit exactly what I needed - something that first ESTABLISHED a habit and then set the stage for a 12 month program designed to hit my goals.Dane keeps me accountable by checking in EVERY session about my nutrition, my sleep, and my overall wellness. He listens to feedback my body is giving during a program and quickly adapts to ensure we're keeping on track to the goal and achieving maximum results. We've done multiple lifting and strength programs, hence showing Dane's ability to pull from his deep, deep knowledge-base of anatomy, fitness programming, and nutrition to truly customize what we're doing in each session to my body.RESULTS:Pretty insane. With Dane's 12 month training program, my lifts went from:- Squat: 145lb > 285lb- Bench: 135lb -> 215lb- Deadlift: 225lb -> 405lbMy total of 905lb at 185lb body weight is a huge accomplishment for me, and something that I would have never been able to do alone.I gained approx 15lb of muscle and lost a couple pounds of chubs. At the end of the day, you can have a personal trainer who has all the accolades, personality, experience, etc., but if they don't get you the results you are looking for, then it's been a failed encounter. With Dane, he knows exactly how to apply his skillset to achieve your desired outcome. Highly recommend this guy.“

957 Cole St, San Francisco“Live Fit Cole Valley has everything you need for a great workout. They've managed to put a lot of amazing equipment in a fairly intimate space, while still creating a sense of openness. Even when packed, I always have a sense that the other members respect the space and have good etiquette about working in sets and sharing the floor space. The hours and key card access are clutch for me, as I'm able to get in a work out when it most suits me, which is either really late at night or super early in the morning. The staff is always down to earth and approachable. They also offer personal training! My trainer Lonnie always goes above and beyond when it comes to encouragement, consistency and education. I can't say enough good things about this gym... Great price! Great spot!“

I initially had debilitating back pain and had tried everything from patches and shots to spinal decompression with no relief. Within months of working with Charles, the pain was completely gone. His wide breadth of knowledge on all things fitness is remarkable. I have leg strength for the first time in my life and I am in the best shape of my life. I had never deadlifted a year ago and recently lifted 390 straight bar from the floor. Charles has motivated me get cardio in everyday now, and I truly enjoy each strength training session. I could go on and on- bottom line: priceless training, the highest recommendation!“
