Shortly thereafter Frank arrived at my home to provide quote for a QuietCool smart-attic fan; extremely knowledgeable, personable and professional! “Home Warranty company's hate Huft! Ok this is going to be long but worth it. I had a problem with my circuit breaker box on my house. It started in October 2024, I called American home shield my warranty company for 6 years. My electricity kept going out. I would flip the main breaker and it fixed it at first. But it stopped working very quickly. So I set up an appointment with my warranty company. They sent out a technician and since the electricity was currently working they said my company wouldn't cover any repairs until it went completely out. But it was obvious there was a problem. The individual breakers were loose and had a sizzling sound when touched. Hence the call for repair. So I asked how much it would be to have the repairs done. Turns out the breakers alone were anywhere from 50 to over a 100 a piece. So I waited to do repairs as I couldn't afford at the time. So we move into 2025 and it had gotten progressively worse. Now at this point the power was going out 1 to 2 times a day. The only way I could keep the power on was to run my dryer or turn the air conditioner down in temp to get it to kick on. This apparently was completing the circuit with a heavy load from a big electrical draw machine. Needless to say my electric bill was really high. So after that stopped working I had a zoom repair call ( which is a service American home shield provides so you don't have to pay the deductible for them to come out) on this call I showed the repair man the breaker and the house with no power and did all his suggestions to get it back on. He suggested to call smud to make sure that it wasn't something with the power coming into the house. But did determine that there was a problem. So I got smud to come out the next day and confirm that it wasn't the power coming in the house but the buss bars on my box. Now this is after paying my monthly bill and another $100 deductible several times just to be told there was nothing wrong or nothing they could do. I should have started with my house was built in the 50's and this was an original breaker box. Anyways I had American home shield send someone out again. Once again the power was on so nothing was wrong. So I had them send someone out for a second opinion because at this point I was afraid of fire. When the second opinion electrician came out he actually pulled a breaker out of the box and it was brittle and falling apart from the heat obviously coming from the box and the arching. He put it back in and I thought for sure with the smud report saying that the box needed repair or replacement and what the second repairman found they would have to fix it. NOT! They claimed I over loaded the system. I argued that the box was over 70 years old and I only had normal stuff like tv, refrigerator, etc in my house there was no way. Still they held to there finding based on the second opinion. I asked the second opinion ( which was Rendon Electrical in elk grove) how much it would cost to have them fix it. They gave me an estimate of $5500.00 and 2 weeks to get parts and smud permits. We had a over 100 degree heatwave coming the next week. Not to mention it was already hot in July in Sacramento we already had no AC because we had no power so we were dying. So I called a long time friend of my son John Kompa. Thankfully he is employed by the best customer service company I have ever dealt with Huft home services. Now I recommend Huft to my mom when she needed a new air conditioner for her house and they did a great job. But when I called John I was thinking he would know a good electrician since he was in the industry. Well turns out Huft does that to. I told John what the problem was and he had me contact Carlos immediately. I called Carlos and when I tell you he was a god send I am not kidding. Let me tell you why. He not only matched the quote I got from Rendon sight unseen ( which was a considerable discount) he also got an emergency dispatch on the job. “Kevin was knowledgeable and professional. He was schedule to come out on the same day I called and arrived on time, diagnosed the AC unit and told me what he was doing and what he was looking for.

Unfortunately after over an hour of dismantling the unit and checking the expected voltages at different parts, it was determined it was not a quick fix. Kevin then provided 4 options going forward, each with their price options.
