“Dr. Karen Jones of F. Y. Eye Care Associates worked me into her busy schedule the morning after I described to her that I had experienced an acute late night episode of a large floater which had temporarily obscured the vision in my left eye’s inferior nasal quadrant.

As a retired optometrist, I have had the privilege of providing and participating in eyecare to patients for more than three (3) decades. After passing the torch to the next generation, I now have become the patient. Trust in one's healthcare provider has to be earned by that individual’s display of genuine concern and professionalism.

Dr. Jones provided my complete and comprehensive medical eye exam to reassure me that I had experienced a common ocular anomaly referred to as a vitreous detachment. Fortunately, it was not the more serious ocular medical emergency of a retinal detachment which could have resulted in a permanent vision loss. She assured me that all the tests performed, i.e. Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT), Automated Visual Field, OptoMap retinal scan, Intraocular Pressures, Dilated Fundus check, etc., indicated that all was well and I only need to be monitored periodically.

“I'd like to share my experience at Stanton Optical on Albemarle Road in Charlotte. I booked an appointment & accompanied an elderly friend for an eye exam. She uses a walker & is naturally shy—someone who would rather stay silent about an issue than bring it to someone’s attention, even if it could be easily fixed.

When we arrived, the staff at Stanton Optical were warm & welcoming. They treated my friend with kindness & patience, something she deeply appreciated. In her experience, service industry workers often lack the patience she needs, leaving her feeling like a burden. Not so with the team at Stanton Optical. They made her feel comfortable and valued as a customer.

While the staff was wonderful, my friend struggled with the actual eye exam. She squinted and had trouble relaxing her eyes because she was worried about “failing” the test and giving a bad impression. When we returned to pick up her glasses, we were once again greeted with a polite, warm welcome. The staff clearly enjoyed their work, and my friend was initially pleased with her new glasses. They assured her that if anything felt off in the coming days, she should reach out for an adjustment.

Much later, my friend confided in me that the glasses really weren’t working for her—she could barely see with them. Even though we were well past the standard adjustment period, I called Stanton Optical to explain the situation, and scheduled another appointment. We met with the branch manager, Tara, who went above and beyond to help my friend.

Tara took the time to reassure her, explaining that there was no such thing as passing or failing an eye exam. She gently reminded my friend that there was no reason to feel embarrassed if she couldn’t read certain letters on the chart. She emphasized that my friend was there to receive a service she had paid for, that no one was judging her, and that she had every right to expect glasses that actually worked for her. Her simple but thoughtful reassurance was exactly what my friend needed.

With Tara’s encouragement, my friend went into her new exam with confidence. Today, we picked up her new glasses, and once again, we were welcomed warmly. Tara personally checked the glasses and took her time ensuring that my friend could see clearly. She encouraged my friend to return if any adjustments were needed.

On the ride home, my friend was excitedly pointing out details she could now see—like street signs and license plates—things that had previously been a blur. It was great to witness her newfound confidence. Sometimes, elderly members of our community just need a little extra patience and understanding, and thanks to Tara and the team at Stanton Optical, my friend received exactly that.

“THE BEST YOU’VE EVER SEEN! About 4 years ago, I was looking for an optical store that specifically carried Lindberg frames, a specific 3 piece mount, or sometimes referred to as a rimless frame. Patrick helped me choose the most minimalist frame and shape of lenses. Today I still go there (almost a 2 hour drive) to have him readjust them.
