The CVCA Cardiologist team in Leesburg, VA, rearranged their schedule and donated their time to assist the Dental Surgery team with the full mouth teeth extraction for our 15-year-old, feline, Mr. Maizy, who was just diagnosed with full heart block and stomatitis. Mr. Maizy also has a very high sensitivity to anesthesia. Although we only had an appointment that day for a cardiology exam, due to the urgency of Mr. Maizy’s condition, CVCA coordinated separate organizations to perform emergency surgery. This included Animal Dentistry & Oral Surgery, VCA Animal Emergency Critical Care, and CVCA Cardiac Care for Pets, which are all conveniently in the same location to perform the procedure. What a wonderful place this is to have such comprehensive care teams from different companies collaborating with such immediacy as they did for our Mr. Maizy. During his surgery, there was a team of seven, including four doctors, working on our Mr. Maizy. We were completely blown away by all of this!! They reaffirmed our belief that there are veterinary professionals who dedicate their selfless, loving care to the needs of our cherished four-legged, family members. “I needed an emergency appointment since my dog was having symptoms and was not eating. Our regular vet was not available that day so I called countryside animal clinic. They gave me a same day appointment and Dr Valentino and her team very fantastic with my dog and with me as a pet owner. Dr Valentino did some labs right away that helped her diagnosed my dog’s condition and to provide a treatment plan. I am very grateful for her professionalism and her knowledge. “Dr Mitchell and her team are just fabulous! She came highly recommended by my friends and colleagues, many who have been with her since she opened Animal Medical Center. She is very methodical in her approach to everything (rather than people who say you need every test on the sun) and Dell was so relaxed being AT a vet's office he fell asleep on the tile floor!

WE got test results in under 24 hours and were able to schedule a necessary ultrasound (recommended by previous vet; didn't want to take him to VCA) within a weeks time.

“My cat Dolly had a cold that quickly grew into something more sinister - one morning, she was struggling to breathe and had bloody mucus coming out of her nose. Like any other grown up adult, I had a full on meltdown and called her normal vet sobbing because I was terrified she was dying.

Now I have a full on care plan with a local office (rhymes with Wanfield), and you’d think that paying a monthly fee for ongoing care of your precious baby angel would mean that…you get ongoing care for your precious baby angel. But, they were fully booked for the next few days - could I bring her in later that week? (Surely they misunderstood me. You see, she was struggling to breathe. This was an emergency…right?) But I was not confused - in fact, there are no appts for emergencies available. Ever. (Lesson learned lol)

So I called a few other local pet ERs and they were all on a several hour wait. (Remember, my cat can’t breathe. She is bleeding.)

Thank the dear Lord in heaven that I remembered this place opened up nearby. They took her immediately, and the entire staff was so kind and caring. (And very generously ignored the fact I had been crying for hours and looked like a swollen mess) They quickly figured out what was going on, got her on oxygen, and were so sweet and gentle with her that it totally erased all of my fears. They even gave her an hour or so in an oxygen tank free of charge while we waited for the test results.

The other thing I appreciated so much was the kindness about what treatments may or may not work. The hard thing about being a pet owner is having to essentially put a price on your animal’s life. Is it worth spending a few thousand dollars on something that may not even work? I really was so touched by the honesty and understanding the Doctor showed in weighing the options, and the way he gave his own opinions as a pet lover versus a vet.

Dolly is still recovering from her bout of pneumonia- but hopefully she gets better soon!“
