“I love Master D.J. he is an amazing instructor. He is very dedicated to his work and is very helpful to his students. He always has opportunities for them to progress and get better. He is very patient and always has a vision on the next steps for each student and tailors his instruction to get them there. This is easily the best Taekwondo school in the state and the top performers crush it at tournaments.“

“Master Lee has been my martial arts mentor and friend for many years. I know the person. He is not only an expert in Taekwondo and Hapkido at the highest levels, he demonstrates humility and integrity while living out a genuine compassion for his students. Students at Lee’s Martial Arts Academy gain not only the agility, skill and confidence of an accomplished martial artist, but also learn how to be better people in a challenging world. I highly recommend Lee’s Martial Arts Academy for anyone looking for the experience of family, fitness, and an expert focus on martial arts training.“

“My 6 year old daughter started training in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu at Mata Leao one year ago at the age of 5.She loves the physical challenge of the classes and mini sparring sessions. She also enjoys the fun games played in each kids class that also improve her martial arts skills and overall sports agility. As parents we love that Jiu Jitsu is very active so our daughter can get her energy out at the end of the school day. We also like that each class is taught by a high level martial artist with years of experience. The best result for kids is the confidence that Mata Leao martial arts programs build. They have a great focus on de-escalation of conflict wherever the kid may encounter it, on a school playground with a bully or at home with a sibling.Any kid at any age 5 to 18 would benefit from martial arts training at Mata Leao.“

“My son takes lessons there and I plan to join him soon. Master Brown, Mr. Master Brown, and the other instructors are all highly skilled and knowledgeable about Taekwondo but also very patient and willing to work with students as much as they need to in order to help them progress in the sport. I don't think I would ever want to have my son go anywhere else to learn Taekwondo or any other martial arts, even though other schools are a little closer to us.“

“My son and I love Ketzal martial arts!! Mrs Eiseman is the nicest most patient person I have ever met. She coaches the kids and gives them easy to follow instructions. My son has been going there for a month or two now and he is now saying “yes, mam” to me at home. I had no idea that karate would play such a big role in teaching my son what respect means and how he can use it to be successful in life. He even says yes mam to his teachers. I couldn’t be more proud of him!“

“Trained about 20 years in different martial arts over the course of my life so far. This school is about my favorite of them all. David is a succinct, responsive teacher who keeps ego out of the gym. The place is warm, supportive and challenging. You won't find a better teacher in Oregon. Highly recommend.Teaches Muay Thai, JKD, Filipino martial arts and boxing, so there's likely something at the gym for just about anyone. Some people go to train to fight in the ring, while most are looking for challenging work outs that improve fitness, self-confidence and ultimately will help you defend yourself and others should you be called upon to do so. Great gym.“

“Still going strong and accepting new students!I was lucky enough to find Ferrito Martial Arts about 3 years ago, it's been a blast. Instructor Ferrito is a wonderful teacher, during busy classes managing to be able to give one on one instruction on a wide range of techniques. I have found Instructor Ferrito to be a very patient teacher whether he is working with a beginner adult or a blue belt pre-teen, he fits his teaching to the student. This class has been great at giving me a good work out while providing vital self defense techniques. Farang Hapkido uses an effective mix of joint locks, strikes, grappling, and weapons to develop a self defense style that can work for any body type and is flexible enough to be adapted to any situation.I feel fortunate to have found a martial arts family with this school.“

“In the two years I've been doing aikido at this dojo I feel it's helped me to become a better person. Not only does it help strengthen my physical abilities but the areas I've noticed the most improvement is focus, commitment, and achieving calmness in everyday life. I saw an increase in my test scores at school, my ability to handle difficult social situations, and better sleep at night. I always feel energized and peaceful after every class. I've found an awesome and positive community in the people there and I'm so grateful for the friends I've made along with it. I genuinely suggest joining if you're feeling directionless in life and need guidance on being successful, calm, and positive.“

“My kids love Ki Aikido training with the senseis in Hillsboro Dojo. They are all volunteers but very dedicated to the students. It could be a little boring at first for the kids, but once they are into it, they love it. I also like the fact that they teach them about focusing, relaxing, cordinating mind and body and how to deal with difficulties in school and in life. You are treated like family here.“

“We have been so lucky to come across Five Rings Jiu Jitsu! Our 9 year old son started going here this year after attending their summer camp, and will be transitioning from another gym. The coaches with Five Rings are clearly knowledgeable not only in Jiu Jitsu, but in childhood development. Their classes are designed to be fun, but challenging, for all levels. They also clearly care about the kids and make the effort to get to know families, so it is a very welcoming and engaging space. Our son loves it!“

“Our family loves this place! The owners Master Danny and Alicia Jang are great people and amazing instructors! They have this incredible way of teaching the kids discipline and skill, in a kind and thoughtful manner. They communicate well about expectations, testing, schedule etc through email or a very handy app on your phone. The studio as a whole is organized, clean and the classes are structured well. Our son has been attending classes here for over a month and has already learned a lot and gained a healthy amount of self-confidence. Plus it's great exercise too! We highly recommend this place for Taekwondo!“

“Excellent gym! I've been taking muay thai here for almost half a year and can clearly see how skilled and articulate the instructors are. FYI some of them even compete! They are welcoming to people of all backgrounds and experience levels, they take time drilling in fundamentals (important!) and they put SAFETY before everything. Pricing is very reasonable and class time is spent very well!“

“Character building | Excellent for kidsWe've been coming here for about 2 months now and recommend this place. Our 5 yr old daughter officially enrolled in their 5-12yr old class, once a week, and loves it! Backstory:We checked out this place a few weeks before our daughter turned 5. She is always very nervous and hesitant to try anything new, especially when it's something she does on her own without us in the picture. So, this was a big step for us. Within the first month of showing up, she went from watching off of the mat to sitting on the mat and eventually interacting with other kids with the help of one of the teacher's daughters. It was a long transition for our daughter, but everyone in the class are so welcoming and friendly. The teachers, including the owner, are so understanding. They never pressured her/us to join. They made the transition easier and more fun to the point where we signed up for 1 class a week and bought her a gi about 2 months later. In her words, "I like this place. I like jiu-jitsu." She is the youngest and smallest kid in this class. I'm excited to see how far she goes here!I like how Joe runs the class. They warm up, talk about the word of the month (i.e. respect), learn a new move, practice this new move with others, and practice the guard. For this specific class, they offer it 3 days a week: Tuesdays/Thursdays at 5pm and Saturdays at 9am. Parking is on the street or in the private lot. There is a sitting area for parents to watch.“
