9 North Airmont Road, 2nd Floor Suite #220, Suffern“I cannot say enough wonderful things about NY United BJJ. From the moment we walked in, we felt welcomed, supported, and part of a community that truly cares. The instructors are not only highly skilled in Jiu-Jitsu and wrestling, but also deeply compassionate and patient, creating an environment where every child, regardless of ability, can thrive.
What makes this facility truly special is its commitment to inclusivity. My son is on the spectrum and the instructors, (all fathers themselves), have been nothing short of amazing. The instructors understand that every child learns differently and tailor their approach to build confidence, discipline, and resilience at a pace that suits each individual. Watching my child gain strength, focus, and self-confidence has been the most rewarding and I'm forever grateful to Khyl, Marty and Al for helping my son develop these attributes.
Beyond the skills learned on the mat, NY United BJJ teaches invaluable life lessons of respect, perseverance, and gratitude. It’s a place where kids feel seen, encouraged, and celebrated for who they are. If you’re looking for a Jiu-Jitsu school that nurtures both skill and heart, this is the place to be.“

45 Godwin Ave, Midland Park“I have had the pleasure of bringing my son to Kim’s Martial Arts for the past five years, and the experience has been nothing short of transformative. This outstanding school has not only equipped him with self-defense skills but has also instilled in him essential life lessons, such as emotional control, discipline, and perseverance.
The teachings at Kim’s Martial Arts go beyond physical training; they empower children to view challenges as opportunities for growth. My son now approaches problems with courage and confidence, all while embodying humility and kindness.
I wholeheartedly recommend Master Kim’s Dojo. Master Paul and the other instructors exemplify grace, kindness, and patience in their teaching methods, nurturing the students into remarkable young adults. The impact of their guidance is profound and lasting.
If you’re considering a martial arts school for your child, look no further than Kim’s Martial Arts!“

1 Sheridan Ave, Ho-Ho-Kus“This comment is long overdue, but I just wanted to come on here and say that this studio is in a great location for us in town and of course that Master Jerry is wonderful! My child althought he likes to goof around has learned respect, boundaries and discipline here. Master Jerry is so good with kids, he is strict, but playful and the kids feel safe and eager to learn with him. We really enjoy coming in for classes, soon our daughter will be joining the studio as well. We highly recommend this studio.“

200 Kinderkamack Rd, Emerson“I attended this martial art’s school when I was around 8 up until I was 18 and left for college. Im currently 29, and what I learned shaped my confidence, mindset, and physical well-being for my entire life.
This martial arts school does so much more than just teach you how to kick or punch. It teaches you how to carry yourself, how to treat others, and how to be aware of those around you. Most importantly though, it gives you the confidence to know that you can protect the people you love if you ever need to.
I would really encourage any parent out there to sign their child up for this school. I haven’t attended a class in nearly 10 years, but I still remember what I learned, and the Sensei that guided me during my time there.“

19 1/2 N Main St, Pearl River“A Truly Exceptional Karate School — For Both Kids and Adults
Mac Albus Shukokai Karate is everything you could hope for in a martial arts school and more. They are absolutely incredible with both kids and adults. Every single black belt in the school is willing to share their knowledge, support newer students, and help lower belts develop real skill and confidence. You can feel that each instructor carries forward the experience, discipline, and spirit passed down by Shihan Mac Albus himself.
Their love and dedication to the karate community that Shihan Mac has built is on display every single day.
As an adult returning to the sport after nearly 30 years, I’ll admit—I was intimidated walking into an adult class full of black belts. But that feeling disappeared after my very first class. The black belts were welcoming, patient, incredibly knowledgeable, and knew exactly how to mentor someone restarting their martial arts journey. It was the perfect environment to grow without feeling judged.
I’ve also seen this same level of care in how my son has been treated. In the two years he’s been attending, his confidence and skills have grown tremendously. The school doesn’t just teach karate—they teach leadership. Through their Jr. Instructor program, opportunities to demonstrate techniques early on, and a culture where higher belts are encouraged to help lower belts, the kids learn responsibility, humility, and how to support others.
This is more than a dojo. It’s a family, a community, and a place where students of all ages can thrive. Mac Albus Shukokai Karate is simply outstanding, and I cannot recommend it highly enough.“

“If you're thinking about taekwondo for your child, do it here. Master Joe is excellent with kids of all types; he helped bring out my quiet child's voice, and helped my bold child learn focus. They are both showing a greater understanding of the martial arts values like humility and perseverance, at home too. The lessons they learn here (physical and emotional) have literally helped me parent them through some kid-sized life difficulties! It’s clear Master Joe truly cares about each student. He is even a thoughtful teacher to the older kids / student teachers he is developing along the way.“
