414 Grand St, Jersey City“The first rule of Fight Club is: You do not talk about Fight Club.
But some secrets are too good to keep.
Family Fitness Karate in downtown Jersey City has become a quiet anchor in our week - a place where my two children are learning discipline, focus, and a kind of strength that isn’t loud but runs deep. Master Mike and every instructor carry themselves with grace, patience, and an understanding of how to guide kids not just in kicks and forms, but in life.
Fridays are special. Sparring night feels like something out of a storybook - electric, mysterious, full of energy and unspoken respect. And the Demo Team practices? Like being invited into a secret society, one where everyone bows in and belongs.
I’ve seen real change in my kids: more confidence, more calm, and a spark in their eyes that tells me they know they’re growing. Watching Petra bow to Master Mike as she received her belt - there was something quietly beautiful and deeply respectful in that moment.
I wasn’t going to say anything. But here I am, breaking the first rule. And I would do it again.“

534 Bergen Blvd, Palisades Park“Garden State Kendo is easily the best Kendo dojo in the Eastern U.S. This is a dedicated dojo with a long history where kenshi can practice nearly every day. Located conveniently in Palisades Park, it features many high level kenshi and an awesome master. I love the disciplined culture and the intensity of the practice here. I strongly recommend it to any serious kendoka looking for a traditional and challenging training environment!“

I knew I wanted to be active but was not wanting to go to a traditional gym. Glad I stopped by and signed up. My favorite part is there are other people here in the same boat as me, looking to make a change and be around like minded individuals. There’s no pressure and you are never forced into contact or anything that makes you uncomfortable. It’s nice when your “no face hits” boundary is respected. 5 stars!“

A nurturing environment that focuses on enabling kids rather than perfecting them from an early age. It encourages kids to grow and keep practicing. Coaches are excellent; they know how to motivate their students.
Amazing place. And we love to keep continuing.
Highly recommend it if you want your kid to grow in a caring and positively encouraged environment.“
“Master Ho Lee's Taekwondo is simply Amazing!! Our son has been enrolled for 5 months. The difference between day one and now is night and day! My son today is stronger, more focused and is extremely more confident. Master Ho Lee teaches discipline, resilience, grit. My son is excited about every class, he has earned a yellow belt, and now he wants to keep going and earn other belts as goals. We could not be any prouder of the progress and transformation our son has made. Enrolling him to Master Lee's Taekwondo has to be one of the best decisions we made for him. If I could put 6 stars I would. Thank you, Master Ho Lee!!!“

I very particular style of teaching with a step by step approach while constantly being on the cutting edge of the latest and newest techniques. Yes its stuffy its a basement. They redid the bathrooms much improved. The best gym ever, Master Renzo should he happen to be there is the most charismatic man I ever met and his stories and love for jiujitsu make him the legend he is. Highly recommend.“

1 W Forest Ave, Englewood“We’ve had a wonderful experience with my son’s kendo lessons. Master Kim is patient, respectful, and incredibly skilled at working with children. He creates a structured yet encouraging environment that teaches not only kendo techniques, but also discipline, focus, confidence, and respect for others.
My son looks forward to every class and has grown so much — both physically and mentally — since starting. Master Kim takes the time to guide each student and make sure they feel supported, regardless of skill level. It’s clear he truly cares about the students and the art of kendo.
I highly recommend these lessons to any parent looking for a meaningful and enriching martial arts experience for their child.“

“We cannot say enough wonderful things about Master Shin and this TKD center. My son absolutely loves Master Shin and looks forward to every single class.
She is not only an exceptional master, but also an inspiring and patient teacher who truly cares about her students. We’ve seen incredible growth in our son’s confidence, discipline, and respect — not just in his Taekwondo skills, but in his character overall.
We moved to another town, but we still travel back to this TKD center because it’s simply that great. Highly recommend!“
