1528 S El Camino Real #200, San Mateo“Jakob Zucker is one of those Barry’s instructors who really stands out for his balance of calm, intentional programming and strong, effective motivation. His classes are thoughtfully structured—you can tell there’s a clear plan behind every block, and the progressions feel purposeful rather than chaotic.
What I appreciate most is his coaching style. He doesn’t rely on over-the-top hype, but instead brings a grounded, steady energy that actually helps you stay focused and push harder. When he does turn up the motivation, it feels genuine and well-timed, which makes it land even more.
His cues are clear, his pacing is smart, and the overall flow of the class just works. Whether you’re newer to Barry’s or a regular, Jakob creates an environment where you feel challenged but also in control.
Also worth noting—the studio itself was super clean and the AC was actually working (which makes a huge difference during those intense workouts).
Overall, if you’re looking for a class that’s both well-programmed and quietly motivating, Jakob is definitely someone to book with.“

677 Laurel St #200, San Carlos“Over the past year, my mobility, strength, and endurance have improved tremendously. As I’ve educated myself on effective cardio and toning exercises, it’s clear to me why I feel like an entirely upgraded version of myself. This progress is all thanks to Val and coming to his classes regularly. He has a great way of making exercise fun, which makes it easy to look forward to every session“

50 El Camino Real #50, San Carlos“I’m relatively new to taking Pilates classes and I am so lucky to have discovered this jewel in San Carlos. The instructors are very skilled and the atmosphere is welcoming. I was initially shy about starting the classes. Because I wasn’t sure if I was coordinated enough to do it. I felt right at home in these classes. I highly recommend it!“

1863 El Camino Real, Burlingame“After nearly a year of attending multiple classes per week with many of the instructors, I have only positive things to say. I found myself wanting to return to the studio daily.
The format of the classes, the energy of the instructors, the sense of community, and the convenient logistics all contribute to creating a virtuous cycle for fitness.
Here are some specific observations:
1. Each instructor brings a unique perspective, and in my experience, they complement each other remarkably well.
2. For Pilates: I've had the opportunity to attend several classes with Samara and Akiko. They run sessions that are accessible for newcomers yet challenging for more experienced participants. Their sequencing, modifications, and ability to read and manage the group's energy make them exceptional instructors.
3. For Yoga: The classes I took followed the Bikram sequence, which is fairly consistent. However, each instructor has their own distinctive style, so you're bound to find one who feels just right for you.
4. Logistics: The studio setup is highly convenient, from parking to restrooms, changing rooms, and lockers. With a wide variety of classes at all hours, finding a convenient session is rarely an issue. The only reason not to attend would be if you simply didn't feel like it--not because of availability or scheduling.
5. The community is outstanding. Both the owners, Samara and Sandy, and fellow students are incredibly supportive and always ready to lend a hand.
6. Pricing is also very reasonable, and the cold towels at the end of classes are a fan favorite!
At one point, I sustained an injury (unrelated to ELC). When I spoke with Sam and Sandy, they encouraged me to come in if I felt up to it, which I did. For several weeks, Sam personally assisted me with weights, mats, and towels (I couldn't carry anything myself), while other students helped with my crutches and kept me connected to my practice. I am deeply grateful--and perhaps a bit biased!“

“I appreciate Nandi’s variety of offerings if I’m seeking to play with higher energy or practice downshifting my nervous system. I’ve been attending classes for several months now and I have a lot of appreciation for the teachers and the setting. The community is very friendly.“
