“We live in a historic neighborhood in Portland, a 100-year-old home that was in desperate need of a solution for old leaky windows and doors. The required oversight of the historical society was potentially nerve-wracking, and the in-kind replacement was rather pricey.
Serendipitously right after a terrible ice storm an advertisement arrived in the mail from Sashwright; "Are you freezing your sash off?" We laughed but agreed we were and needed to do something about it.
Steven Colvin the proprietor of Sashwright came out to do a thorough walk-through of the house offering a variety of suggestions that would solve our problems and not break the bank.
We chose to have custom wooden shutters fabricated for the entire house, as well as a new front door and side door.
Several of the storms have a swappable storm/screen panel for change of season.
As we progressed through the measuring, ordering, and installation phases of the project something became clear to us no matter who we spoke with or met on the job. Steven has developed a very special culture among the staff and craftsmen on the job. There's only one way to do the job and that's right. Sash-right. The attention to detail was extraordinary and it was truly a delight to have them work in our home.
I can't speak highly enough of them, and unfortunately cannot give them more than five stars. Stephen runs a great business, supported in the field by skilled craftsmen, Matt, Michael, and Dave. The office management and operations are competently handled by Deborah and Laura.

“Very professional and good humans. It was a complicated job for others who came, but for them they just got it done and it's beautiful. Ours was a wood window custom-built for a tilting balcony addition in a 1917 home. They did an excellent job, and it's seamless to the house style, specs, etc. The new opening windows will be beautiful, and they didn't try to oversell or convince us to upgrade specific mechanisms since this room isn't used often. I had a few bids that were just not helpful. Geoff and Ian were very professional and thoughtful and they know their stuff. Geoff even helped repair a cabinet door I when I pulled down on accident! Highly recommend!“

While they didn't have the exact replacement, they had one that ended up working just fine, and they just gave it to me "in case it doesn't fit right." My husband and I are very happy with our decision to replace and upgrade the windows in our home. Brightside came out and measured everything and within the next month they were back, ready to put in the new windows. They installed all the windows within one day, which was great! I subtracted one star because during the installation, their tools shook our walls so hard a vase flew off one of our shelves and shattered. I do wish I would have known how badly the walls would shake so I could have taken everything off. That being said, they cleaned it all up and apologized. So far, our new windows have been working great! I would work with Brightside again, and I would recommend them!“
