“My wife and I have trusted The Vision Center since 1998 and have been patients of Dr. Shroder for most of that time. The staff has always been kind and pleasant, and Dr. Shroder has consistently shown concern not only for our eye health, but for our overall well-being. Our recent visits made that especially clear. When my wife began experiencing ocular migraines, Dr. Shroder examined her and recommended that our family doctor order a carotid artery scan, explaining that reduced blood flow to the eyes could be a possible cause. The scan showed more than 90% blockage in her right carotid artery and more than 70% blockage in her left. A stent was placed in the right artery, while the left was initially left untreated because insurance considered it borderline. Afterward, the migraines stopped. Soon after, my wife noticed a dark gray spot near the top of her field of vision. Dr. Shroder performed a retinal scan and found an obstructed vein, known as a Hollenhorst plaque, that explained the spot. He urged us to go immediately to the emergency room and request a stroke evaluation. He also printed the scan images, marked the area of concern, and told us to show them to the attending physician. After confirming with our family doctor, we went to the emergency room. Both the emergency room doctors and the surgical team praised our optometrist for catching the problem. The stroke evaluation, combined with Dr. Shroder’s findings, provided enough evidence to proceed with a stent in the left carotid artery to help prevent further complications. One month later, Dr. Shroder performed another retinal scan, which showed significant improvement in the area damaged by the eye stroke. Five stars to Dr. Shroder, and ten stars to Jesus for seeing us through this and bringing healing.“
