“I’ve been a patient of Dr. Shriver’s for about three or four years now. At my last annual visit, the dreaded “progressive glasses” conversation came up. I’m in my mid-40s and had always assumed I wasn’t a candidate for LASIK, but the idea had been nagging at me for years. After some testing and another conversation, we set a date.

I’m about a week post-surgery and honestly shocked by how easy the procedure was and how quickly my vision improved. Dr. Shriver and his surgical scheduler Catherine are AMAZING. I truly felt like I was their only patient—and still do—that’s how attentive they are. Dr. Shriver personally called me both before and after surgery to check in and make sure all my questions and concerns were answered (yes, even on the weekend). I spoke with Catherine so much I probably owe her a Christmas card.

A few things to note: the procedure itself is very quick—about 15 minutes. The worst part is some moderate, uncomfortable pressure on your eyes to start. After that, it’s painless (just lots of eye drops during the procedure). My vision wasn’t clear immediately after, and that’s completely normal. It was kind of like opening your eyes underwater—you can see, but it’s blurry. Follow his directions—they’re easy… go to bed.

I’ll be honest: the first three-ish hours were pretty painful, and your eyes will tear A LOT, but that’s all part of the process. After about three hours, the pain was completely gone. I kept my eyes closed just about all night and when I woke up the following morning, I could see everything clearly, way better than I could have imagined. In addition to the prescribed eye drops, you’ll need lubricating eye drops, so buy multiple bottles, you’ll use them. About a week out now, my eyes feel great overall, aside from feeling a little gritty now and then—so keep using the drops!

I can’t express how life-changing this simple surgery already has been. Under Dr. Shriver’s care, I’d do this all over again in a heartbeat. It’s so worth it.“

One thing that stood out is that the entire staff, including the doctor, is made up of women—something I found unique and refreshing. The atmosphere felt professional but relaxed, and it is easy to see this being a great practice for families.
