“My partner and I recently completed a major home renovation and after interviewing 9 different construction companies across the Bay Area, we decided to move forward with Ilay and the team — and we’re so glad we did.

From the very beginning, Ilay stood out because of how quickly he responded, how knowledgeable he was, and how reasonable and transparent the pricing felt compared to others we spoke with. One thing we really appreciated was how flexible the team was with the way we wanted to manage the project. We wanted to source and supply many of our own materials, and they were completely accommodating and collaborative throughout the process.

Our original timeline was January through May, but the project was actually completed in April, which honestly exceeded our expectations. The team showed up every single day and kept things moving at an impressive pace without sacrificing quality.

Ilay was incredibly communicative throughout the entire renovation. Even during stressful moments when we were pressed on timing, he constantly kept us updated and reassured us that everything was on track. That level of responsiveness and consistency made a huge difference for us.

“Leo and his team looked at what we required to update our bathtub and shower into a stand-up shower. The price he gave us was the best quote we received of the three companies that quoted the job and after seeing photos of other projects he completed, we gave him the job. His team worked quickly to demolish our existing shower and bathtub. The material he used for the shower walls is very nice and was installed quickly. Once the shower doors were installed and the job completed, we were amazed at how beautiful our bathroom looked. “We reached out to Prime Design and Build for a bathroom remodel and worked with Ethan. He was helpful, attentive, and very responsive. He also worked efficiently—our first meeting covered the same level of detail in 30 minutes that other GCs took an hour for, which we appreciated. In the end, we went with another option, but Prime Design and Build remained a top contender throughout. There was never any high-pressure selling; instead, Ethan did everything he could to adjust the proposal to fit our budget. If you’re looking for a GC, I’d recommend reaching out to them for a proposal.“

“I couldn’t be happier with the renovation that Sami and Sons did for me.

The project involved expanding a downstairs half bath to a full bath so that I could age in place. This mean moving a wall, building a roll-in shower, installing additional electrical outlets for a bidet etc. Since this bathroom doubles as a powder room for guests, I wanted the grab bars to be disguised as towel warmer, shower head slider, and assorted holders for toilet paper, towels, and soaps. I also wanted a certain look. I knew what I wanted but did not know what was possible given the tight space, the building codes, and the structure of the house. Sami and Sons helped me think through the process.

“You’re not hiring a company, you’re choosing a family!” is emblazoned on the marketing material that Sami and Sons gives its customers. The company is run by Sami Dadon and his three sons, of which the youngest, Noy, was assigned to this project. He treated me like I were his grandmother, with deference, but he is not shy in expressing his views. He is more often right than not. Upon dismantling the floor, we discovered there’s a beam underneath where we’d planned the shower drain. The brothers were consulted and, drawing upon their collective experience doing dozens of bathrooms a year, a satisfactory solution was produced. Though occasionally disorganized, he got the job done. He has a good crew and I’m especially pleased with the tile work. I am now enjoying my dream bathroom, customized to my size and my peculiar taste.“

“We hired May Construction to build a second story over our attached garage. We had used them to do a smaller project (installing cabinetry into an existing closet) and they did a fabulous job. I am a former Navy Civil Engineer and oversaw over $5 billion in construction projects during my career and worked with hundreds of general contractors. I can honestly say that May Construction ranks in the top 5 contractors I ever worked with.
We had an architect (McKim Design Group) work up a preliminary plan and then handed it off to May Construction to finalize the plan and make sure we were making the best choices for our project. They did an outstanding job balancing our desires with building codes and constructibility considerations. Once we obtained a building permit from the city, May very promptly got the project started.
Weekly job site meetings with May and the subcontractors kept us completely in the loop. The May Construction crew was fantastic to work with. All of them were extremely diligent and responsive. Since the project required demoing the existing garage, they ensured that the framing and the roof were in place before cutting into the main house ensuring that the house was protected from the elements, which we greatly appreciated.
All construction projects experience issues (I never had a project that did not). What is important is how well the contractor deals with the issues that come up. Whenever we had an issue, May was very quick to address it. No matter what time of day (or night) they answered their phone and were right on it.
The quality of their subcontractors was also top notch. Having seen a lot of General Contractor/Subcontractor interactions in my career, I was extremely impressed with how well May worked with the subs. Their subs have all worked with them for many years and they work together as if they were on the same team.
I was also impressed with May’s relationship with the City of San Jose inspectors. I personally was there observing whenever a City Inspection was scheduled. Repeatedly the inspector would show up, complain about the contractor on the last job they inspected, and said how good it was to work with May because they knew they would do things right. Whenever there was an issue the inspector often would sign off on the project and just tell the May people to make sure they fixed the issue, ensuring the project was not delayed. (I can say from experience that is a very rare thing, and shows how much faith the City Inspectors have in May.)
We wanted a contractor that would do the best quality work and would keep the project moving forward. May Construction did exactly that. If you are looking for a great contractor who will do great work in a timely manner, then May Construction is the way to go. They have my highest recommendation.“

“TOP Construction replaced a driveway, sidewalks and patio for us. The owner, Abel, worked with the city to obtain permits and schedule inspections. Abel was on time for every single meeting (!!) and was wonderful to work with. His crew was respectful, skilled and friendly. I had heard so many horror stories about other contractors, that I was nervous about this project, but Abel handled all of the details and the finished job was PERFECT! Ciarra’s CEO, Walt Oxley, came up with a brilliant plan to remove the tub and convert the area to a walk-in shower. The workers were very professional and thorough. They put protection paper on the floors to keep other surfaces clean. When the job was completed, it was a total work of art! “We had Giant builders remodel our kitchen a few years ago so this month we had them replace our master bathroom cabinets. Gina was great to work with in the showroom. Tarik who is the owner is very responsive and on top of things. It took no time at all to get the cabinets and counters in.
