“This guy saved my horses life.I have a 20yr old pain mare who foundered sometime 2 years ago. I had 2 vets come out, teach telling me upon examination of the radiographs that she should be out down immediately.they didn't take quality of life into consideration at all, or anything else for that matter.Needless to say I was desperate to find someone who speaializes in severe issues of the hoof.Mark was kind, clear, sincere & kind while explaining everything that he was doing and gave me his honest opinion as to where to go next in her treatment. Looked at everything as a whole and told me he didn't think that euthanasia was necessary. Though her condition wouldn't improve due to bone loss of the p3 bone , based on her activity level and zest for life, there's no reason why her condition couldn't be managed.He put her on equioxx, gave me tips on nutrition, farrier care, bedding/footing type and lots of other advice to make sure she stays comfortable for the rest of her life.*He was pricey but I didn't expect it to be cheap.I would 100% recommend mark if you have a horse with an issue with their feet. Don't let outdated veterinary training be the demise of your horse!!Thanks Mark, you are the best!!“

“I took my boxer to see Dr. Hall for a checkup. Everyone there was very kind and knowledgeable and very gentle with my dog. She took her time examining my dog. Not one the the practices that puts you on a time schedule then says you're done. Dr. Hall is one of the nicest vets in the area. I would recommend her office to everyone.“

“We moved from Washington state and I always look at reviews before I actually pick places or like anytime honestly and this place had no bad reviews compared than some annoying person talking about like a phone answering person like a receptionist based off of like some like scheduling issue so I wasn’t gonna base that off of my perspective so I looked at every single review. I swear to God and I chose this vet specifically off of all the reviews and I’m so glad because he’s amazing. He’s very smart and knowledgeable and, I feel that my dog is safe in his hands and I highly recommend him. I have a French bulldog and he’s been in there for surgery and he’s gonna be in there for an ultrasound and I feel very safe and comfortable with this doctor so if that’s what you’re looking for you should definitely schedule with him because I did a lot of research and this is who I thought was very safe and knowledgeable for my dog and I have a French bulldog I feel very comfortable with my dog going under knowing that there’s a slight chance they may not wake up because they breathing problems I know this vet cares so much he’s great“

“Dr Gertz and everyone at SoCal Vet is amazing, I can call and not feel like I am the crazy Frenchie Mom. They always ease my concerns and doesn’t do unnecessary things. I am always given the least expensive option and what can wait vs what might be needed. I honestly considered not moving because of this dr and vet staff but unfortunately I need to, but definitely considering any routine visit will entail a San Marcos Visit. Kona and I will very well miss coming here.“

My dog and cat have both had some health issues, so we have been there quite a bit this year. Dr. Mark ALWAYS takes time to explain everything and has so much empathy and compassion. He is incredibly knowledgeable and thorough. Jenna at the front is so kind and friendly. The veterinary assistants are so sweet and gentle with my pets.

He’s been going weekly for a month to get acupuncture and tho he’s older we can definitely notice he’s more ambulatory (sometimes we comment the puppy is back) and we have stopped needing or using meds which could have adverse impacts on his organs. “I cannot say enough wonderful things about Santaluz Animal Care and Dr. Laura Johnson! They saved my dog Hei-Hei’s life, and I will forever be grateful for their compassion, skill, and generosity. Our 7 lb. Chihuahua had been wasting away, dropping to 5.5 lbs. due to a severe dental infection. His white blood cell count was elevated, he was in pain, and they also discovered early-stage renal failure. We were terrified, but Santaluz Animal Care went above and beyond. We explained that we could only afford $1,000, and they stayed within budget without cutting corners. They did full blood work, a complete dental extraction, all necessary medications, a prescription diet change, X-rays to ensure no roots were left, ear cleaning, nail trimming, and anal gland expression—all at no extra charge. We were nervous about anesthesia, but Dr. Johnson reassured us that Hei-Hei would do wonderfully and even confirmed his heart was as strong as a younger dog’s. What truly amazed us was their flexibility and kindness. On Tuesday, 02/11/25, they took him in immediately—even though they don’t typically accept same-day emergencies. They also don’t do extractions on Wednesdays, meaning we might have had to wait until Thursday, 02/13/25—a delay he may not have survived. Dr. Johnson was empathetic, kind, and accommodating. My husband had to handle everything alone, and they treated him with so much care and respect. From start to finish, the entire staff showed an incredible level of dedication and compassion. If you need a vet that truly cares and will go the extra mile for your pet, Santaluz Animal Care is the place to go. They didn’t just save our dog’s life—they gave us more precious years with him.
