As a widowed mother, I initially started both my kids right when they turned 4 because I wanted to make sure they knew how to defend themselves when I couldn’t be around. 6 years later, our family has gained much more than just self defense. My daughter has gained so much confidence and learned how to hold down her boundaries outside of karate (something she has struggled with for years). She applies the discipline she’s learned through her training in everything she does and it shows in her daily life. She’s a straight A student and gives credit to karate for all the success she attains when she’s off the mats. When my son was younger, he used to be all over the place. He couldn’t sit still for 2 minutes. Karate has helped him work on his focus which in turn helps him succeed in school and be more disciplined in his daily tasks and how he carries himself. Karate has become more than just a sport and self defense for my kids — It has become a lifestyle. There is not one single day that goes by where my daughter doesn’t say “I love karate!” With a HUGE smile on her face.
It makes me so happy that my kids have so many amazing senseis to look up to because all the senseis set such great examples for their students. I also love that my kids have been lucky to grow up with their karate friends. The kids are all so supportive of each other and respect each other. Sensei Anto, Sensei Marine, and all the amazing senseis couldn’t have created a safer space for these children to find their power physically, emotionally, and mentally. We have truly been so blessed with our karate family.”
