Project Zen Massage and Bodywork Reflexology

“I highly recommend Project Zen. As a birth doula, supporting a birth can be very physically demanding, and Project Zen has been the perfect reset for me. I used to get great Thai massages here years ago, and about a year ago I returned for regular deep tissue massages. I especially enjoy the deep tissue massage from May, she is excellent. I carry a lot of muscle tension that requires deep pressure, and she is able to really work through it. I leave each session feeling noticeably less tense and much more relaxed. I have also tried hot stone massage for the first time this year and it was incredibly relaxing, if you like heat and pressure combo I recommend it. The standard prices are reasonable and if you catch a sale, which they do occasionally have, you can find a great discounted price. I will absolutely recommend Project Zen to all of my birth clients.“

“Overall, I had a good experience and would come back. The spa itself has a relaxing atmosphere, the layout is beautiful, and the staff did a great job with the service I received. I left feeling much better than when I arrived.

The reason I’m giving 4 stars instead of 5 is because there were a few things that felt a little unprofessional. During my session, there was quite a bit of conversation happening, and my technician was switched in the middle of the service, which interrupted the relaxing experience.

I also had some confusion when it came time to pay. I was initially quoted one price, but then the total ended up being higher. I wasn’t upset about the difference—I was still planning to leave a generous tip—but I wish someone had simply explained that there had been a mistake with the original price instead of making the interaction feel awkward.

I know the staff works hard, and I appreciate that. I was happy to tip because I value good service, but I also believe pricing and expectations should be communicated clearly from the beginning so guests don’t feel uncomfortable at checkout.

Overall, I enjoyed my visit, and I would return. I would just recommend confirming the final price before the service begins so everyone is on the same page.“

Ananya Thai Massage Reflexology

“This was my first visit to Ananya and I requested “Lilly”. You should too! She was incredible. Small but mighty! If you’re someone who likes lots of pressure she can deliver. I opted for the 90 minute Thai massage. I’ve had many massages both here and in Thailand, and I must say I think this was the best massage I’ve ever had in my life. Lilly was extremely skilled, talented, strong, professional, and sweet. She can continually checked in on me to make sure I was comfortable, and that the pressure was adequate. The atmosphere was very relaxing, warm, clean, and quiet. I highly recommend Ananya and Lilly.“

“This was my second visit to Restful Spa, and I can honestly say I’ll keep coming back.

The first time I came in, my back was in terrible pain. Cindy worked on me for 90 minutes, and by the time I left, I felt like I had a new body. The pain was so much better, and I couldn’t believe how much of a difference one session made.

I came back again today, but Cindy was off. They recommended Angela instead, and I was a little unsure at first. I’m so glad I trusted their recommendation because Angela was excellent too. My second experience was just as good as the first.

That gave me a lot of confidence in this spa. It’s not just one great therapist—the whole team is professional and genuinely cares about helping you feel better.

The spa is always clean, peaceful, and relaxing. From the moment you walk in, you can tell they care about creating a comfortable environment.

I think I’ve found my massage home. I’ll definitely keep coming back, and I highly recommend Restful Spa to anyone looking for professional massage therapy and people who truly care about their clients.“

Izumi Spa Massage Reflexology

“I’m a returning client for izumi spa and I’ve had many professional quality massages here. They only have female staff which is great for cleanliness and comfort, since I would not want a man to work on me. Ive also brought my mom and sisters here for mothers day and my girl friends for spa days. We all love this place, especially since it’s so easy to park. Most downtown places don’t have easy parking at all. The prices this place charges are pretty reasonable, and I think to keep costs low, they charge a small fee for credit card transactions like many small businesses, but they also accept cash if you want to avoid the card fee. This place is really a gem and I’m glad my coworker recommended me. I think yall should try it out and experience the difference yourselves. You won’t be sorry, highly recommend.

“There are MANY places to get yourself a massage, but this is the place to go for a massage when you’re wanting a firm deep tissue massage which leaves you relaxed and rejuvenated. I only go to see Andy. He is super strong and definitely knows his art of massage. I can’t recommend him enough! The place is always clean and quiet and prices are very fair. “Experienced and knowledgeable massage therapists who use the Chinese deep tissue style. Rooms were clean and soothing with low lighting and spa music. Not only did my masseuse end with a hot stone treatment (totally unexpected!) but she also added a hot towel rubdown and head massage. I'm considering getting the package of 20 sessions, but they have a new sister branch in San Mateo I'm going to check out.“

507 Woodside Rd, Redwood City
Avee 9 Spa Massage Reflexology

“I've been to dozens of different reflexology / chinese type massage places over the last 20 years, but Avee 9 is clearly the best place by a LOT.

Now it should be understood that I like a massage that some would consider way too hard. I want the mass of the titanic with the anger of a teenager thrust into my back with explosive force. This is obviously not for everyone.

Jennifer and Yoyo ( I am probably spelling them incorrectly ) are soooooo good at what they do. Both of them can do a walk on back technique without a towel covering that allows them to dig their heels into my lower back while sliding them forward while using oil. It's incredible.

When they switch to their hands you can feel them hunting for knots, discovering issues and working them out. If they do happen to miss something just ask. They are happy to help.

There are many common issues I see with some other Chinese reflexology places. Those issues include uneven massaging ( ex: rubbing the right shoulder blade for 4 minutes then skipping the left ), extremely light pressure, no knowledge of proper pressure points, using too much oil, loud bickering in chinese between co-workers, unstable when using walk on back technique and falling into a memorized routine without paying attention to the clients body.

Sometimes you get a place that avoids 90% of these problems and that's a damn good massage. Avee 9 avoids all the problems and does the BEST job.

The ONLY issues that I have with this place are the noise & parking. It's not particularly quiet and the two parking spots in the back can be full via locals in the neighborhood. To me it's still worth it. I work hard physical jobs that worsen my sciatica and need a massage to get me back to work. A little noise and parking at petco is no big deal. Additionally, It's quite small so there is no room for a shower which is a bummer but that's not a deal breaker.

I moved from Redwood City to South San Francisco recently and tried a local place for convenience and WOW it was truly AWFUL in comparison. I am done trying different places. I know I will never find a place as good as Avee 9.

Is it a fancy spa with bamboo signage, facials and a sauna? Not at all. But if you need Thor's hammer thrust in your back at speed this is the place to go.

Calling ahead is always the best option and tip WELL. I always do and they take phenomenal care of me. 10/10 would recommend.“

“My favorite massage place on the peninsula. If you are looking for ambiance and vibes. Somebody gentle and a five star hotel experience. This isn't it. This is where you come after work and get the knots out. These people work hard to get the tension and whatever neglect you have done to yourself out of your body. Do you slouch on your computer or bend your neck looking at your phone? Do you have tension in your legs? Come work that out here. Post workout massage? Amazing. The price is reasonable and the staff is respectable.“

“Credentials: I’m a second generation massage therapist who grew up in this industry helping my family run multiple shops. I’ve helped train many of our massage therapists by providing feedback on touch and technique. I’ve also trained with many different therapists from around the US and Thailand. Blahblahblah been doing this for a long time.

What I need is good bodywork and I need it often or my arms will fall off. Mei has the touch and knowledge that comes with time and an intuition that’s hard to teach. Their prices are more than fair, if not generous, and this allows me to come often. I get the pain management massage for 90 minutes and I have her do only focus work. Anatomy is complicated, but she always knows where to go.

I’ve gotten many massages, from no frills to high end. This shop is no frills — I prefer it and let me tell you why: All I want is good body work, I have frills at home. You pay a whole lot extra for frills. Some of the best massages I’ve ever had were in no frills shops. We had therapists who also worked for [a very popular luxury spa] that charged more than double (and their pay was the same) Would you rather pay double for the same massage?

Mei does everything herself and she works hard. She’s friendly, attentive, and helpful every time I come. I don’t speak Cantonese and can communicate with her fine. She could use a better system for phones/appointments, but I don’t mind it. The noises are pretty minimal and don’t bother me, but I’d bring earplugs or earbuds if it did, your own music is always better anyway. For the price and quality of work, she can honestly bring in a mariachi band and I’ll still be chillin.“
