1115 SE Stephens St, Portland“Really enjoyed my time training here. Coaches are welcoming and willing to answer questions without judgment. No toxic gym culture and felt very inclusive of all people regardless of sex and gender identity. I learned more here in 4 months than I did with 6 months of previous training in Muay Thai. Coach Ryan rocks!“

124 SW Yamhill St, Portland“Our 10 year old daughter has been taking classes here for about 6 months or so and we absolutely love it. She looks forward to going every week. Jordan & Ben do a PHENOMENAL job keeping the kids wrangled & engaged during class and steering every interaction into a teaching moment, even if the kids start getting rambunctious. They practice alot on actual breaks and holds that can be useful in real life situations and teach the importance of de-escalation strategies before responding with any measure of force. But then teach practical self defense skills when physical confrontation is unavoidable. Jordan & Ben are great with the kids, very patient and do an excellent job making sure the classes are always fun for them. We have tried a few other martial arts styles/programs and this one has been hands down our favorite for our kiddo.“

1812 NE 43rd Ave, Portland“This is Coach Justin, one of the excellent BJJ teachers at SBG Portland. Justin signed me up to the gym, guided me through my entry process, and always has a kind work or thoughtful insight to share with me. Today’s class with Coach Justin was all about escaping your opponent when they’re going for your head on the ground, and boy was it fantastic. And humbling. Coach Justin said today something today like, “if you want to succeed at BJJ you have to let your ego go”, and of course he’s absolutely right. When I got into powerlifting seriously about ten years ago, I took to it like flies take to sh*t—I was naturally strong, and good coaches were able to take me to really incredible strength numbers. But I’m not naturally good at BJJ, and for me to get better, I have to admit that. I have to think through what I’m doing, how I’m doing it, and why in the moment I’m doing it. I absolutely love BJJ, and am grateful that I have this gym within walking distance to train at. The three coaches I’ve worked with—Vanessa, Justin, and Franklin have challenged me like no other, and I’m grateful. And I won’t back down. I’m slowly getting better, but there is a rich depth to this sport that I don’t know if I’ll fully ever explore, but that doesn’t mean I dang well won’t give it my best. I highly recommend this place, both for complete newbies and experienced athletes as well. You will be challenged, and you won’t walk away disappointed.“

4030 NE Broadway, Portland“Criticizing an instructor without knowing their background is absurd and when said instructor has moved on from competing to train a martial art that has such an extensive and rich history, criticizing that art is equally absurd. Small Circle jujitsu was developed by Prof. Wally Jay and is based on classical jujitsu, and incorporates judo, boxing, wrestling, Escrima and Wing Chun kung fu. So because of this, Small Circle techniques are not only applicable to jujitsu, but blends beautifully with other styles of martial arts. It's true they don't concentrate on ground techniques as does BJJ, and they're not a kickboxing or boxing school nor are they training competitive wrestling. They train a combination of non-lethal pain compliance control holds and methods of restraining and controlling opponents with throws, takedowns. There is a reason that police departments worldwide use similar techniques that are taught at Portland Jujitsu, it works Small Circle Jujitsu and Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu incorporate many similar techniques, but with. different emphasis that make both Jiu-Jitsu's so effective.Sensei Miller is also an asset to the community with his self defense/self confidence classes he teaches for the blind and kids classes. In addition to these classes he is contemplating adding upcoming classes for fall prevention and balance for seniors“

7427 SE 52nd Ave, Portland“I was looking for something new to motivate me to move more and have fun doing it. I found it at GIRLS Gym. No matter your age or ability level you feel right at home. There is such a positive vibe there and I have so much fun!“

517 Main St, Oregon City“I stumbled across Enso when my interest in Jiu Jitsu first piqued because it was the closest gym to where I was living. 5 years later, and I couldn’t be more happy that it is the gym I call home. Keisuke is a phenomenal coach, and all of the other instructors are dialed in technique and teaching it to students from beginner to advanced. More than the game, though, is the community. The group of people who train at Enso are welcoming, enjoyable to be around, and fantastic people on and off the mats.“

755 SE 202nd Ave, Portland“Had a fantastic time at DBMA, I got to try out a class and I definitely got the exercise I wanted. Staff know what they are doing, they've been at it for like 20 years and it shows. I was there early enough to see the kids class and it's pretty cool how engaged they were. my class was easy to follow as well, I'm finding time to come back“

16126 SE Happy Valley Town Center Dr #110, Happy Valley“This dojo is amazing. Carleton and his crew run an awesome program. My 11-year-old loves the positivity and encouragement they foster. I do, too. Well worth the time and money (which isn't much).“
“Review based on a visit to inquire a few questions about the membership. Coach and another lady who works there were both very friendly and explained well the structure of the training. I observed an intermediate/advanced class and really like the technical drills, not to tired folks out but to focus on getting the concept and the flow right. If my schedules work out I'll definitely consider training here.“

18206 SE Stark St, Portland“I travel often and make it a habit to visit local MMA gyms. Quest Team was one of the most welcoming gyms I've been to and Coach Matt and his family - provided me great care and attention despite the fact I'm new and just visiting and I also got to witness just why he is a world class coach.“

2940A SE Belmont St, Portland“I joined Traditional Taekwondo in 2019 with my two kids. It was just supposed to be something fun I could do with the kids, but I absolutely fell in love with it. Even through the pandemic, Master Johnson went above and beyond to keep students engaged, whether that meant classes via Zoom or classes in the park. I have never done a sport in my life, and this past spring (2025) I got my black belt - at age 51! The classes are rigorous and the instructors are extremely skilled. In addition to getting a great workout and learning an incredible traditional martial art, I have discovered a community that is supportive and dedicated. I highly recommend Traditional Taekwondo to students of all ages.“

We had split custody and master. Kim was very flexible of doing every other week. My son I know because of master Kim is grown to be a very strong adult, and very well balanced.I now have grandkids and I’ve looked him up to send my grandkids to him now. He is somebody I have trusted his team with with my children and now I’m gonna trust him with my grandchildren. They are amazing. I looked through the photos and they’re the same teachers that it was 20 years ago, I’m so happy to find him again and the teachers .“

740 SE 106th Ave, Portland“Great instruction by excellent teachers. Mr. Loeffler is extremely patient and effective. He will teach the same move in different ways to help his students understand in the way that makes sense for them. He is encouraging and clear, letting students know what they must master to progress. Individual and brief assessments (for kicks in intro course) help improve form. Student instructor assisting our course was knowledgeable and dedicated. Goals are attainable for everyone with practice! Very glad to have found this wonderful program.“

“Awesome Sunrise Taekwondo!!! This is a great martial art school for my son, who has been a student learning from white belt to jr. black, to learn: discipline, respect, technique, rountine and become a leader. The masters and black belt instructors here super amazing, who are teaching the students all of the above and more with patience, professional, encourage and with all their heart and mind. We highly recommend everyone both kids and adult to try out!!!“
