We initially hired him to remodel one of our bathrooms, which was a complicated job involving a major reconfiguration (e.g. adding a new door to the hall, reposition the guts of plumbing and electrical). He did a truly great job, and had excellent aesthetic suggestions. A year after working with him on the bathroom, we hired him to remodel our whole upstairs - again, he pays great attention to detail, and has excellent suggestions on what will work best. Now, we've asked him thoroughly update the house exterior. The most important thing is that I trust Bobby thoroughly and all of his employees.“

“Bernie, Seth, and Benjamin did a great job renovating our 70's bathroom with damage to the sub-floor and adding beams to support the new walk-in shower. They removed the old popcorn ceiling and widened the 28" door to a standard size door. They installed new flooring, handicap grab bars and created a shower curtain rod that is strong enough to do pull ups on. Every obstacle that came up they were able to overcome it. If I had another bathroom to renovate they would be the team I would call.“

We areso grateful that Jennifer had the patience and good humor to teach us enough about good design sothat we could confidently go with her bold choices where they would make a statement. We have achandelier which Jennifer called “the wildcard” and a repurposed vintage arm chair with oxford blue fabric and coats of arms.On elements like the backsplash, we were guided to go with a better choice rather than a popular choice.In our garage turned rec room, I can tell you the pictures do not lie! The Grau Building Company team translated Jennifer’s vision into thestunning new home that we feel so lucky to call ours! Or maybe it was not luck but that we were smartenough to collaborate with a building and design company who listened to what we wanted our hometo be and made it happen while keeping budget in mind. “I recently moved back to the Chapel Hill ranch home in which I’d raised my children. I’d rented the home out for 27 years. While staying within a modest budget my home needed a major overhaul and update. I hired Jay Hallan after he’d completed work on my daughter’s home. We are thrilled with the results. I give Jay Hallan top marks for the following reasons:1. Work was completed on time and on budget!!2. Jay is an excellent listener.3. I did not use an outside architect or designer. Jay and I worked together to plan.4. The renovation included a 350sf screen porch with stone gas fireplace, four skylights and a ceiling fan. With my simply picking out the stacked stone and fan, J designed the entire space.5. Jay arrived on site every day. I did not live locally during the process. Jay provided pictures and we spoke or texted through the project.6. There were no major issues and the inevitable minor snags were addressed promptly.What more could you want?“
