“We unexpectedly lost our son this autumn in Central Minnesota, and we were quite suddenly faced with planning his funeral. After reviewing a few nearby funeral homes, we settled on Oakwood Funeral Home in Maplewood, a family-owned business. We called Oakwood from the west coast and first spoke with Nick, the owner’s son. Nick was extremely helpful and sincere. He answered our basic questions, and made us completely feel that we could count on the support we needed to plan our son’s final goodbye.
We made an in-person appointment with the owner of Oakwood, John (“JR”) Jaskulske, to arrange and to finalize the funeral arrangements. JR greeted us at the door, made us feel truly welcomed, and showed us briefly around the viewing and gathering room. The interior of Oakwood is colorfully tasteful, quite beautiful and peaceful. Afterward we sat with JR together in a comfortable, smaller inviting meeting room to choose and make our selected options and final plans. These were all discussed carefully, patiently and with compassion.
After sitting down and talking with JR for about ten minutes, we genuinely knew we had chosen the right place for our son. JR took his time, listened to our questions and thoughts, and explained our options. We could tell this was not just a job for him: he truly cared about us and the grieving process that had only just started for us.
Five stars is not enough for the service JR, Nick and Oakwood Funeral Home provided. We will forever be grateful for their sincere support, compassion, and guidance during this very emotional and difficult time. We wholeheartedly highly recommend Oakwood and their service to you. You, like us, will look back and know there is absolutely nothing you would have done differently.
