721 3 Mile Rd NW #100, Grand Rapids“Jenisom office: The culture of this staff—their communication, compassion, support, and education—somehow turns a 10/5 experience into a real thing (yes, math was defeated here). I actually look forward to coming in, which feels suspicious for something involving pain. I leave knowing how to manage my pain better at home without meds, move more like a functional human again, and feel genuine hope for recovery. Huge shout-out to Grant, Lindsey, Ellie, Alyssa, and D (Danielle), who took what could have been a painful, tear-filled experience and transformed it into one full of laughter, encouragement, and straight-up celebration. If healing had a fan club, this team would be it. ?“

1787 Grand Ridge Ct NE #103, Grand Rapids“After having had radical head and neck cancer surgery and reconstruction, and then 6 weeks of daily radiation (all down at Cleveland Clinic), I was instructed to find a local Physical Therapist who could help me manage the facial lymphedema that would result from the removal of 88 lymph nodes in my neck.
After a bit of prayer about this (😌), my niece then gave me an excellent recommendation and referral for NovaCare’s Mackenzie Harris!
Not only has Mackenzie taught me how to successfully manage the facial lymphedema, but she has graciously and confidently tackled ALL of the other resultant issues that have arisen as well; such as:
• How to rebuild and strengthen the remaining muscle around my lower leg (fibula) donor-site, where a few inches of bone, muscle, skin, veins and arteries were surgically removed, and then transplanted into the space where my upper right teeth, upper jaw, roof of my mouth, right maxillary sinus, and cheekbone were removed due to tumor invasion.
• How to basically eliminate by exercise and massage the swelling at the lower right leg donor-site and ankle, that I had been told would very likely be a chronic, ongoing issue.
• How to soften, increase circulation, and improve the healing of my significant amount of scar tissue and skin grafts.
• How to improve, correct, and strengthen weakened right leg balance, and upper-body posture.
• How to “unlock” the trismus (lock-jaw) that had restricted the opening of my mouth, and how to now keep my jaw fully functioning.
• How to relieve the tingling and numbness in my right arm that began after surgery and radiation, as well as a new pain in my hips resulting from the necessity of an elevated upper-body sleeping position.
• How to reduce the restrictive neck tightness, discomfort, and further development of fibrotic tissue that can occur after radiation and surgery.
• How to decrease pain, and increase movement around an unintended post-surgical deep skin adhesion.
• How to massage the area of my right eustachian tube to increase the possibility of hearing restoration in that deaf ear (which was negatively effected during radiation).
• I’m sure there is (and will be) much more…but you get the idea 😉.
I’m a “visual” learner, and Mackenzie is great at pulling up pictures/videos to clearly explain the anatomical problem, and also the needed physical-therapy solution.
She strives to support Cleveland Clinic’s long-term process, while demonstrating an extremely impressive, knowledgeable, expertise of her own!
…Seriously, I am so impressed with the way that she has helped improve so many troublesome issues, which I might have ignorantly resigned myself to believing that “this is just how life has to be now,” …when it doesn’t …at all!!
She has gently and diligently taught me how to care for, and assist my body as a whole, in its gradual recovery process. She has done well at instilling confidence, and cheering me on with her genuine concern, care, and positive outlook for my future journey with this somewhat rare (and sobering) diagnosis.
Thank you SO much Mackenzie! 💛😊“

555 Mid Towne St Suite 205, Grand Rapids“Dr. Theut has surgically repaired one knee, and both my shoulders. As a Contractor and one of the Co-Founders here down time really isn’t allowed. From everything I’ve read online I expected some limitations to my range of motion, I had full range of motion by the time I finished PT. I followed his directions to the T, I did my PT and did the home exercises more than required. Couldn’t be happier, except I tore something in the other knee last weekend. I’m hoping I can get a consult on the 31St with him while he’s tending to an alternate injury. Hands down one of the very best when it really really counts, we have 75+ animals here that call NSLB home, this can’t be done without me long term so I know who to count on. -Bobby Wilmoth“

“There are three constants in life: death, taxes, and men in their 30s/40s getting back pain. I haven’t figured out what to do with the first two yet, but luckily there’s Eric at Fuel for the back pain. I went from “oh man it hurts to walk, I don’t think I want to risk it with going for a run or bike ride today” to “Yes! Bring it on! I have a plan!” after some quick conversations with Eric. I ride my bicycle more often than would probably be considered healthy, and when my back pain took that away from me I was stuck doing household chores instead. Now that Eric has be doing a quick set of exercises a couple times a day, the floors are back to being as dirty as my mountain bike after a rip in the trails, and I wouldn’t have it any other way. I only wish I lived closer and that I’d asked him for help sooner!
Don’t wait on your back pain to get better, DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT! Go see my guy Eric so he can get you out there cutting grass and takin names like you’re meant to do.“
