First time customer. My previous barber canceled on me twice unannounced, so I was looking for a new barber. Excellent atmosphere. Ausharra was on schedule and got me right in a timely manner, while taking his time to do so. Cut exceeded expectations! Will definitely be back.

I was early for my appointment, but another stylist was kind and let me come inside to wait. While I waited on Akila, the other hair stylist was friendly and offered me refreshments. When Akila arrived, she was on time and she greeted me. She was very upbeat and down to earth. Before starting the process, Akila listened to my concerns and made me feel comfortable. She went on to say that at any time, If I felt any pain or discomfort to let her know and she would change the braiding style. As she began braiding my natural hair, I noticed how light her hands felt. During the process, I had to play on my phone to keep from falling asleep. When she completed the braiding process, I didn't have a headache or any pain whatsoever. Then, Akila let me know she was beginning the sewing process. Again, she reassured me that she would try something different if I felt any pain. She began to sew the hair in and I didn't feel the needle or when she pulled the thread through my braids. Not only was my hair gorgeous when she finished, but I was thoroughly impressed. My hair turned out great and I didn't have any pain, discomfort or a headache. Akila is the best hair stylist and I would recommend her to anyone. Thank you Akila!

This past winter/spring, I had the misfortune of having to replace my sewer line up to the city tap, which essentially destroyed my back yard. Last week, I contacted Fisher Landscaping who came over and provided a reasonable estimate in short order. Over the course of a full days work (with the help of some wonderful landscaping toys), the crew grated, leveled, smoothed, and seeded the affected areas and other pinpointed locations. The work was capped with straw blankets. The Fisher crew did a timely outstanding job, and were very focused and professional throughout. I was greatly impressed. Thanks fellas. You did good.

Mike, Jared, Ryan, and Isaiah are a dependable team who have done consistently great work on my home. Mike the owner is very upfront and a responsive communicator about all aspects of a project. Even though they are busy, they are flexible in their scheduling and when an opportunity came up they fit me in. As a result, my newly installed gutters had the flashing done right, to correct what another company had not done. Also, they did a fantastic job on my roof in 2021 and it’s still in great condition.

With decades of experience and exceptional creative talent she has managed to bring out the best in my hair. Finding a new hairdresser is daunting. I relocated back to the Midwest during Covid and found myself in the unfortunate predicament of needing a new hairdresser. Ugh. We’ve all been there. Boy, did I get lucky! I get my hair cut, colored and highlighted and Angela listens closely to what I want. My hair is very easy to manage now and I get compliments everywhere. I see Kathy for nails and Shelly for waxing. I struggle with some skin issues and both Kathy and Shelly have helped me tremendously. I can very honestly say that they have provided me with more care and empathy than even my medical teams.
Shelly is an expert esthetician and the only person in the area I trust do my waxings. I feel so comfortable in her care that I recommend her to absolutely anyone any chance I get. When I first started going to Kathy my nails were brittle and painfully cracking due to a medical condition. I’ve been going to Tricoci University Salon since 2022, and up until now, I’ve had really good experiences. Unfortunately, my last visit was far from positive. The student who cut my hair didn’t do it the way I asked because of the miss guidance from the instructor and on top of that, there was a pricing miscommunication, and I ended up being overcharged. I get that the students are still learning, but I do expect the supervising teacher to ensure that things are done correctly.
When I went back to talk about it, After multiple attempts to try to explain my experience which she understood at first but later I was basically told by the manager not to come back because the students did not like my complaint which makes no sense. It feels like customers aren’t allowed to voice their concerns without upsetting the student or the teacher. After being a loyal customer for so long, it’s really disappointing to be treated this way. I got some of my money refunded and I hope they take this feedback seriously, because no customer should feel like they can’t speak up when something goes wrong.
I will not come back sooner as I have now to wait for my hair to grow due to the mistake made by the instructor and maybe I will not come back again.

In 1968 - 1969 I rented one of the two apartments in the small house on the corner. It looks like it's a parking lot now. Mr. King was our landlord, a really nice man. In the apartment above the barber shop lived a young couple who had an Irish setter named Scarlett. Good memories from my senior year at the U of I. I'm so glad to see that 57 years later, Mr. King's barbershop is still going strong and is a popular place in town.
My 84 year old mother who has had a old school cut and perm for years. Well we had someone who did do it well until she was unable to because of health issues. The Lady who took over was not old school familiar style. Mom's hair needless to say look horrible. We got a referral from a friend to go see Lorri WOW this lady knows the old school style . I’ve been seeing Mary for ashiatsu massage for over 5 years. As a student I have really bad neck and back pain. Mary is incredibly skilled at pinpointing the blockages/knots and working through them. After just a few sessions I saw a huge difference and since leaving Urbana I have yet to find a massage therapist as talented and kind as her. She books up quickly so I would recommend having reoccurring sessions on the cal :)

Due to sewage drain problems we contacted D&S sewer service for help. D&S came to the rescue the next morning (we called later in the previous evening) and cleaned out the sewer drain, checked the indoor drains and toilets to ensure indoor drainage was working properly, completed the work in about an hour all for a very reasonable charge. They had a couple of recommendations to ensure good drainage flow in the future, which was appreciated.
It is great to have competent, polite people do their jobs in a timely manner. It was a relief to not have to hire better known business, who send some rude, non-communicative jerk, who doesn't know what their doing....and you get to pay a premium price for it.

I am so grateful for that recommendation and have since referred several people there myself over the past five years. I needed an extensive amount of reconstruction done, and Dr. Howell provided a detailed treatment plan, working with me step-by-step throughout the process. He is extremely skilled while being incredibly kind; he puts people at ease in what can be a stressful situation. The staff at his practice are also amazing people and wonderful to work with. I took my son's dog in for a yearly exam. Our regular vet was on vacation. They were awesome. He was muzzled the last time my son took him to a vet. But not this time! Both the vet tech and the vet were awesome. We were so impressed with their handling skills and how nice everyone was to our dog and us! I highly recommend them!
They are amazing. Dr. M took great care of my dachshund and took the time to really understand what was going on. They made him as comfortable as they could with treats and a quick process. They were also understanding and flexible with me when I had a scheduling issue. Cannot recommend them enough. Reasonable pricing too. Their property is also very pretty, and a great place to say a prayer on the side of the building if your pet is not well or is crossing the rainbow bridge.

Good Friends has been great to me and my one cat. I was very anxious coming in, but the staff here are so kind and patient and they will take the time to explain everything to you. They also are very gentle with my cat. I plan on bringing my other cat in next. I only have good things to say about this clinic! If your pet needs major surgery or just a check up, they are in good hands here.

I have an older cat that gets aggressive at the vet. Most places have barely looked at her or go straight to sedation which I prefer to avoid unless completely necessary. Dr Mary and everyone here have been great with her. I recommend All Creatures if your cat struggles at the vet.

Many years ago an Iyengar yoga teacher told me that I could use my practice when life became difficult. I had no idea what she meant. Most recently I had two loses in my life of people who were close to me within hours of each other. While I have supportive family, friends and community, I could not wait to be on my yoga mat and take classes with Becky Meline and Lois Steinberg. I have never met either of these two teachers in person. I live out of state so my classes are online only. It did not matter to me. Lois and Becky are a gift to Iyengar yoga. Their teachings are honest, thoughtful, kind, wise and they teach with integrity. As I practiced I could focus on my body and breath to heal my mind and soul. One doesn’t have to experience sadness to appreciate their teachings. Most of the time I feel joyful and at peace during and after class. Through the Iyengar method Becky and Lois have helped me to be compassionate with myself. I bring that compassion to the world around me. Consistent practice is magic.
