Even though I was very nervous about getting a sew in, it was always a protective style I wanted to try. Once I arrived at the salon, I didn't know what to expect. I was early for my appointment, but another stylist was kind and let me come inside to wait. While I waited on Akila, the other hair stylist was friendly and offered me refreshments. When Akila arrived, she was on time and she greeted me. She was very upbeat and down to earth. Before starting the process, Akila listened to my concerns and made me feel comfortable. I’ve been seeing Akila for about a year. As an Asian with very straight, strong hair, getting locs is incredibly difficult — but Akila is basically a researcher when it comes to hair. She kept experimenting with different techniques, analyzing what works and what doesn’t, until she cracked the code for my hair type. A year in, my locs are nicely set and looking amazing. Highly recommend, especially if you have a tricky hair texture.
