Dryer Vent Wizard of Mount Prospect and Park Ridge
“I had an issue with birds nesting in my vent, so I called Dryer Vent Wizard to help remove the birds and nesting material. I called on a Monday and John Korbar (owner) came out that Wednesday to take care of it. He warned me that the issue could happen again since I had a missing damper under the vent cover, and recommended some new vent covers Dryer Vent Wizard sells that would take care of the problem. While I agreed that I needed a new cover, I live in a community with a HOA and wanted to check with them first to see if what I wanted was approved.

Weeks later, after hearing back from the HOA, I decided that instead of getting a new cover, I would install a backdraft damper (from Amazon) that slides into the vent. While not a perfect way to prevent wildlife from the vent, it would be a step in the right direction. During the time I was awaiting response from the HOA, I found more nesting material in the vent.

I emailed John to follow up and let him know my decision about the cover, and that I wanted the backdraft damper installed as well as the vent cleaned out and sanitized. He responded timely, and stated that although he doesn't typically install backdraft dampers for dryer vents, he was willing to try and install it for me. He sent me a link to schedule an appointment that was convenient for me.

John came the following week, and cleaned out/sanitized the vent. He tried to install the damper, but the inside of the vent is messed up and no damper will fit in properly. He said I would need a damper that sits in front of the vent (without being inserted) under the cover to help prevent birds from returning. I said I would reach out to my HOA to see if that's something they would help with. He was concerned about birds coming back in the meantime, and proactively MacGuyver'ed a temporary damper for me based on what he had in his truck so that there wasn't an open hole for birds to access. He did this voluntarily in the 90 degree heat without me even asking. When he left, he said to let him know if I needed recommendations on dampers to get for a more permanent fix.

My HOA ended up sending a maintenance technician to take care of the situation. Instead of a damper, the tech put an approved cage over the existing vent cover to prevent wildlife from entering.

Based on my experience, I would highly recommend Dryer Vent Wizard and John Korbar to anyone with Dryer Vent needs. The company is very professional (easy to schedule appointments, sends appointment reminder emails, calls you as a courtesy when they are on the way, and sends a receipt of work completed after payment is made). The prices are very reasonable. John is not only professional, but a very kind person as well. I would definitely use their services in the future.”
