“We purchased an 1883 Victorian on the brink of demise form decades of differed maintenance. Best Home Remodeling worked with us on MANY parts of the restoration. I can’t say enough nice things about Haim and Edgardo. The most important things they bring to a project, in my opinion, is their vast experience and knowledge. They understand what I’m trying to do when I’m not even sure and know what needs to be done first when I couldn’t do the whole project at one time. “Michael is a very nice man and went out of his way to make this project to create a bedroom for my elderly mom moving in that gave her privacy in an open concept loft. He worked with us on scaling the project to fit our budget and when one of the subs he used did not do a good job initially - Michael made it right on his own dime.

Installing the interior window allows light going both ways and looks great! But the best (and hardest) part was his custom installation of a sliding door with a complicated no-show rail system that glides with soft close. The floor wasn’t level and the door and hardware didn’t match but Michael made it look and function great and wouldn’t stop until he got it exactly right.

We are very grateful for his work and for working with him personally. Can’t recommend enough!“

“An HVAC tech checked out my house and found ducts wrapped in asbestos. The ducts were damaged and exposed and the tech told me I had to remove them before work can be done. (Asbestos is banned and causes lung cancer) Reached out to Andrew contractors and Frank had the most rates. His crew was professional and helpful. Best thing I like about Frank is that he reached out and offer me home improvement advice even at no gain to himself. Through him I found a good HVAC contractor who was very responsive and and did a great job working on my home. I highly recommend going with Frank as he seems to pride himself in taking care of his customers.“

They are professional, fast, efficient and do top quality work. My driveway looks incredible and the process (though a bit delayed due to the weather) was seamless and easy. They also did my foundation retaining wall several years back and also did outstanding work. If you want it done right, All seasons is the contractor to go with.“

“I had the Nicholas Roofing team inspect my roof and quote a replacement. They were prompt to reply, reliable in showing up and communicating when they said they would, and offered a competitive quote and detailed quote and report on the state of my roof. They incorporated details I wanted done, such as adding insulation and sky lights to my roof, and made this conversation easy. Most importantly to me, they were honest about the level of work my roof needed, and thanks for their honesty, I learned my roof had a few more years in it before I needed to replace it - this is what I am looking for in a great contractor. Months later when I asked for a written assessment of their inspection for another use, they just emailed it over no questions asked, and didn't try to upsell me into a new inspection or something. “Ken is wonderful person and excellent at his job. He first started wroking for me when I bought my 1926 home in 1998. It needed absoultely EVERYTHING. He put in a new water line from the street, bolted and sheer walled and reinforced a major beam to earthquake-proof it, all new electrical and copper plumbing, beautifully finished a large part of the home that only had a cement floor and sink with no interior walls, completely remodeled one bathroom, rebuilt an entire side of my home due to undetected termite rot, hooked up all my appliances and more. What I paid is irrelevent because it was so long ago.

What is relevant is that Ken is a magician. Every time you are upset about something not going right (because that will always happen with any big job), he will come into the situation and figure out a solution that makes everyone happy (including a highly problematic architect). I'm totally serious about this. This skill alone is worth everything. His crews' craftsmanship is excellent. He finishes work within the time estimates. This is how good of a contractor Ken is: He has been working in the East Bay since the late 1970s and since the 1980s he has been living in the same home in North Berkeley to the present. You will always be able to contact him. He will always get back to you right away.

In terms of cost, I think he is right in the middle--not expensive and not inexpensive for contractors in the Bay Area.

Ken has helped me with many small problems that have arisen over the decades (painting my house, leaking roof; leaking at bathroom window; flooding occurring at my exterior bedroom door; etc.), and he always comes by to give me his time and advice and to hook me up with reliable people who can help me at the lowest cost.

“Anderson Moraes has been the general contractor with me on two new construction residential projects as well as a gut renovation of an existing house. I’m an architect that’s done several projects in east bay and worked with many contractors, often on fairly tight budgets. Anderson is one of the only contractors I’ve hired repeatedly as he’s easy to work with, attentive to details, and I appreciate that not only can he oversee complex projects, but he also has a furniture shop and is able to fabricate items for the interiors. It’s rare to find a contractor that will take on small to mid size residential projects at competitive prices that’s also willing to take on furniture scale interior work.“

“Arthur and his team have an eye for design and are as professional as it gets. Back in February 2020, our patio awning blew straight off in one of those crazy Bay Area storms and was ripped from our house. We put repairs on the back burner, and when shelter in place orders were mandated, we decided it was time to finally look into our project. After a quick consult, Arthur recommended a couple of options: either we put the same sheet metal awning back on, or he could build us a wooden trellis. I chose to go with the wooden trellis, and figured now would also be a good time to put in the deck we had been talking about building for years since we had first moved in. Arthur's team - Tony (foreman) and his sons - got to work right away as soon as we reviewed the scope of work and went over a few design ideas. The before and after are phenomenal, as you can see in the photographs. We had a couple changes in design right in the middle, but in the end, I'm blown away by the overall look of how it is now than how it would've looked originally. Arthur and his team were very responsive to our questions and our requests, and his crew were very respectful and professional about their work. We have some other home projects we've identified that we'd like to do in the future, and we will for sure be choosing Hutton Construction for their help in these projects.“

“Advanced Home Energy helped me do a whole efficiency upgrade to my home. Their technician Laura first came and did a test-in. She used high-tech tools to measure the leakage of the house and the old ductwork, the performance and safety of all my gas appliances, efficiency of windows, and existing insulation. Then they sent me an extremely thorough report with recommendations, explanations, and projected energy savings for different measures we could take. We ended up replacing my 1955 furnace with a new high efficiency furnace, and they suggested I put it in my attic instead of a closet. We actually gained a huge closet space as a side-benefit! AHE then installed all new insulated ducts and sealed them super-tight. There was one guy who spent a whole day literally painting this duct mastic inside all my register boxes so they'd be absolutely air-tight. Then after the furnace was installed, we did blown-in cellulose in my attic and walls, air sealing in the crawlspace, all new dual-pane windows which look GREAT, and I even got a nice set of pull-down attic stairs out of the deal where there used to be just a 2' x 2' hole. I had asked if the furnace be situated so that I could have some attic storage space available, and they more than accommodated my request. I also asked if the furnace would be quiet, and they explained that to help with this, they install an "acoustic loop" in the return air duct, which means that the duct travels a longer distance between the return air grille in my ceiling and the actuall furnace. Man, I can barely hear this thing when it fires up!Laura came back and did a test-out, to see if they had met their projected energy savings. They hadn't only met them, they had exceeded them. They submitted all the paperwork to the Energy Upgrade California program, and about 6 weeks later, I got a rebate check for $4500!!!!!Now we are several months into winter, and I was really curious what our utility bills would look like. Well, let me start by saying that my wife had a baby (a home birth in our toasty, quiet house!) on December 7. We had the thermostat set on 71 degrees for the entire month of December and January, all day, every day. Last winter, I kept the thermostat on 68 at night, and left it off for 8 hours a day while we were at work. Even with the extreme increase in heat usage from last winter to this winter, our energy bills are HALF of what they used to be. I'm saving at least $100/month all winter. Between that and the rebate, this job is going to pay for itself within 10 years. And my family and I get the benefits of living in a quiet, comfortable home. I am absolutely elated. “I cannot say enough positive things about Linda and Alfredo, and their quality of work. My project was small... a bathroom remodel and a kitchen update, in an older home in Oakland... They did beautiful work! The tile work and the painting was top notch. Such amazing attention to detail! They found some rot, after the demo, and made the repairs at an affordable upcharge. I was grateful knowing that everything about my project was going to be structurally sound as well as pretty. I found their pricing to be fair. Not the cheapest (but I don't want the cheapest - I want quality)... also not the most expensive.. their prices are FAIR. Also, they do What they say they're gonna do, When they said they were gonna do it, and for the Price they promised. AND they're always on time.
