Jess asked questions on my hair care routine, offered practical advice on products and tools that might be well suited for my hair type, washed and styled my hair. Jess is a hair whisperer, detangling with the lightest touch. When I asked about the clips that were used, I was offered one to take home! Jess offered so much more than just a cut- but a whole holistic experience of conversation, care, concern and expertise.

For years, I have been without a stylist. I am so grateful to that this process brought me to Jess.

Jess is located in Black Dagger- a beautiful, well appointed and well lit salon. Black Dagger does a great job in making all of their clients feel safe and welcomed, and is truly a safe space free of judgement. They have an adorable selection of fun hair clips at the front- I will be buying a few when I return!

“Dianne is so kind and patient. I have natural hair but started getting silk presses about a year ago with her. She gives me great insight into how to care for, maintain, and protect my hair with its texture and since I don’t like perms. The last 10 months have been great, I was recommended by a former student of mine to come here, and I watched Dianne on instagram for about 2 years before I decided to come in. Her work is always good, and she is really a great stylist. Professional, prompt, and accommodating. I’m glad I came here, and that I was recommended. Beyond her talent, Rochelle was the definition of professional: prompt with communication, organized, and thoughtful. She even took the initiative to coordinate directly with members of my bridal party about their individual services, sparing me the stress of playing middleman during an already hectic time.

She was also incredibly sweet to my flower girl—my 12-year-old niece—who was nervous about wearing makeup for the first time. Rochelle was gentle, reassuring, and made her feel so special. She even gifted her a lip gloss to mark the occasion, which became her very first piece of makeup. It was such a thoughtful touch and meant so much to all of us.

On top of all that, she’s funny, down-to-earth, and so easy to be around—exactly the kind of energy you want on your wedding day. Supporting small, women-of-color-owned businesses was important to me throughout my planning process, and getting to work with a fellow Filipina like Rochelle made the experience even more meaningful.

On wedding day she made sure I stayed calm with all the nerves unfolding. They arrived on time, set up everything quickly and made sure it was all organized so we can relax and enjoy the morning. I received so many compliments throughout the night on my hair and make up. Doing an up so was out of my comfort zone for my wedding day, but I trusted Haydee and she went above and beyond. I went in with photos of what I thought i wanted, and she took the time to examine my hair, curl pattern, face shape, etc... and gave me a cut that incorporated all the pictures and exactly what I wanted.
