“I love this dental practice for my kids. The play area is one thing, but it’s really the whole experience that makes children feel at ease. I’ve honestly never seen anything like it anywhere else, and I’ve worked with many dentists before.

Not only do the kids feel like they’ve entered an enchanted place, but the assistants are also incredibly kind and loving with them. The front desk staff always go above and beyond, and what can I say about the doctors? They explain everything very well and truly take their time with you.

“A really wonderful dentist. I drive all the way to Berkeley from Sacramento to see them. I have a rare medical condition that has specific implications for dental health. They've been accommodating and proactive -- doing research where necessary to make sure that I'm getting the best care possible. I've also never had an attempt to upsell cosmetic work here; no discussion of whitening or veneers, both of which I had every dentist mention every single visit the whole time I lived in Los Angeles. Do I have to bill back to insurance? Yes. Have I ever had a problem with that? No. Ultimately, billing back to insurance (as others have mentioned in their reviews) is a very small tradeoff for me when compared with having a dental team that I trust.“

“We love Dr. Denise and Uptown Pediatric Dentistry! My little one is always comfortable and actually looks forward to coming, big plus!. The staff is pleasant, the inside is cute/playful and overall we’ve never had an issue with anything. Professional, punctual, and you can tell there is a genuine love for what they do here. “Outstanding! Dr. Calvert clearly explained what to expect during my cuspid root canal. He worked painlessly — and quickly on this infected tooth. He also placed a temporary crown to cover the missing part of the tooth until a new crown was in place. His assistants, especially Gilma, were in sync with him. Everything was so well coordinated that I practically fell asleep during the procedure! Well Done!“

“Aloha Dentistry is an AMAZING office for children who have some dental fears. We switched to this office after my son experienced a lot of anxiety at his last office. Dr. Ameneh just has the best bedside manner, and all the staff is so welcoming and accommodating in helping to calm the patients. Even though they don't take Delta Dental and I pay out of pocket, the costs are not unreasonable, and they work with Delta to get you reimbursed. 10 stars, definitely recommend!“

“Update: the payment issue was resolved.

I went for a cleaning procedure in September. The procedure itself went fine.

Before the procedure, I was told that my insurance covers the entire cost of the procedure. However, after the procedure, I was told I need to pay the entire fee since my insurance doesn’t cover it.“

“I wish all dental offices were like this one!

At 72 years of age, I have many years of experience with dental offices and dentists.

This provider stands out for several reasons so I want to let others to know the reason I am recommending them.
1. They serve both HMO and PPO Delta Dental patients!

Many dentists will not accept HMO MEDICARE which often serves folks unable to pay higher premiums, because the HMO plan reimburses dentists at a lower rate. Unfortunately, the ones that do, in my experience, often pad their bills by adding procedures not coveted by insurance. These costs are passed onto patients as out of pocket costs. The providers often refused service unless I was willing to pay!
2. Cali care dentists offer the most current dental care practices which Delta refuses to cover. Fortunately, CALI Care will let you know which costs are not covered by insurance before they initiate the care.
3. The front desk is very knowledgeable and responds quickly via phone.
4. Their hygienists and dentists provide the most thorough deep cleaning!
6. You feel welcomed as soon as you enter the office; and feel you are amongst friends!

Every other DELTA HMO provider I DELTA’s Medicare HMO program (tried4) referred me to, with one exception, employed very deceptive practices designed to earn money for procedures not covered by the HMO Medicare plan. CALI-Care is different; they are honest brokers whose owners are onsite and seem to have their patient’s best interests as their primary goal. Kudos to them!”“

I was able to get my teeth cleaned, rescheduled for a crown replacement, and referred to another service to treat an infection growing in the root of the tooth. “I started going to Dr. J. Cortese about 30 years ago. He healed me from my dental trauma from my childhood dentist. I have crowns that he put in that are 25+ years old and in good shape. There was a number of years that I didnt see them due to changes in my life and I was never completely satified with the 3 different dentist that I went to. I am happy that circumstances changed and I am back in their good hands. I have seen Dr. Kara, Dr. Joseph Cortese and Dr. Frank Cortese all of whom I would give 10/10 to. The entire staff is awesome! Edit 2026: We ended up trying 4 other dentists because the kiddo hated the flat table vs regular chairs.

And then the kiddo needed a tooth extraction and we tried a fifth place. In the end we came back to Dr. Nick and had a much better experience. They know how to help with anxious and neurodivergent kids and worked with me to practice desensitizing the kiddo at home by telling us what to expect clearly. They also did a better job offering options and explaining choices like silver diamine flouride and flouride gel.“
