“I was struggling with a constant headache for a week and a half. I went to my regular optometrist but she wouldn’t preform my eye exam without having my eye sorted first so she recommended I see an ophthalmologist. After calling around to many different offices within my insurance network I kept running into the same problem. Long story short I Google this practice and they were able to get me an emergency eye appointment with Dr. Vu the same day. She is an optometrist with a very kind/excellent bedside manner. She helped me calm my nerves and was very understanding and welcoming throughout my appointment. I’m honestly tempted to ditch my original optometrist that is five minutes away from me and go with this practice that is 30 minutes away because of her kindness.“

“This is going to be a long one but it is definitely worth the read. I’ve always had bad vision, started around age 5 and just got worse as I got older. I never knew there was such a thing called Vision Therapy and I definitely wish I had because I could’ve used it many years ago.
In 2016 I started losing the vision in my left eye, a small black dot that eventually got big enough to impair my vision. I visited several eye doctors with different specialties to try and figure out what was going on but none of them could help me.
In May 2017 I woke up one day just not feeling right and my heart was pumping more rapid than normal I went to my doctor and they checked my heart and couldn’t find anything. Yet the weird heart palpitations continued to happen off and on throughout the next few days. I ended up going to the ER because I continued to feel off and they found I had a brain tumor that was pressing against my optic nerves and surrounding my carotid artery. I had a craniotomy and then radiation because they couldn’t remove the whole tumor. I did get my vision back in my left eye after the craniotomy but it was still slightly impaired.
Shortly after I finished radiation I noticed issues with my right eye. Weird pixelation and depth perception impairment. After a few years it continued to get worse to the point where I was afraid to teach fitness classes and even walk down the street because I really could not see clearly.
In 2024 I was told about Virginia Vision Therapy and from the minute I got there I knew this was where I’m supposed to be to clear up my vision. My first appointment with Dr. Davis was so informative and he made me feel so fantastic about the crazy stuff I was going through because he understood and was definitely ready to help me. I still have that first session on my phone because he asked me to video it. Everyone is open and understanding with what you’re going through. And everyone there is very willing to help!
My appointment with Dr. Johnson (Dr.J) was wonderful too. He helped me find contact lenses that I could wear and a new glasses prescription that is 2 levels below my current prescription to help improve my vision even more. When you hear him say look at the spaces, you’ll be amazed at what you learn from that.
The therapy itself was definitely something that I was not expecting. It is literally physical therapy for your eyes and your brain! I was doing different vision exercises not only on computer equipment but also physical exercises that not only stimulated my eyes but also stimulated my brain and really helped me to understand how much vision can affect my balance. This was one of the best therapies that I have ever participated in.
I want to send out appreciation to everyone that I worked with especially Akeila who is the best therapist! She is so understanding and helpful, I cannot give her enough props. She not only opened up my eyes but she opened up my mind to understanding there is so many different ways our body affects us and we affect our bodies. I also want to say thank you so much to Marshe’ for always being so positive and supportive and helping to answer so many questions about different things with insurance and payments and all that fun stuff.
And thank you to Sierra, Aundrea and Dr Smith for helping me with my vision therapy as well. Each of you brought new insight to me during our sessions.
