He then suggested a thoughtful, holistic approach to addressing my persistent neck and upper trapezius pain, including using an active release technique followed by optional dry needling, as well as suggesting stretching, strengthening, using proper form during strengthening exercises, proper posture when at rest, changing the type of bag I carry (from a shoulder bag and leather purse to a rolling bag or backpack), ensuring that I wear bras and swimsuits that offer adequate support and help distribute weight evenly, and even pointing out the advantage to using a claw clip rather than wearing a tight ponytail.
