Thirteen years ago, I turned eighteen tethered to a Remicade drip in a Swiss hospital, alone except for beeping machines and fluorescent lights. Like magic, a nurse appeared with a balloon and a slice of cake, and in that strange, absurd moment, I learned that sometimes life insists on celebrating you even in the oddest of ways. Earlier this week, exactly thirteen years later to the day, I turned thirty-one while sitting in an infusion chair again, this time at Annapolis Rheumatology, complete with another balloon and a slice of cake, provided by their AMAZING infusion nurse! Instead of feeling alone, though, I found myself surrounded by people who have quietly made this place feel like home. Over the years, infusion clinics have been more than medical spaces to me. They’ve become classrooms, confessional booths, stages, and sanctuaries. I’ve re-learned how to walk after flares that left me paralyzed, crafted executive presentations mid-infusion, and even run parts of my professional life from medical supply closets.

What makes Annapolis Rheumatology stand out is that they understand all of this — that life doesn’t stop for treatment, and that the little moments matter just as much as the big ones. Their nurses and staff celebrate victories, support you through setbacks, and somehow make even the absurd parts of chronic illness feel manageable, sometimes even joyful. They’ve cheered me on, taught me, rescued me, and shown me that humor, resilience, and human connection can transform even the hardest days. Every milestone — birthdays, flares, professional wins, financial challenges, mobility struggles, absurd triumphs — has been witnessed and supported here. From balloons and cake to fist pumps and laughter in the infusion suite, Annapolis Rheumatology has become part of the tapestry of resilience, humor, and humanity that keeps me moving forward. Life with a chronic illness can be absurd, relentless, and beautiful. And thanks to the extraordinary team at Annapolis Rheumatology, I’m reminded that it’s also filled with love, support, and moments of celebration — even under fluorescent lights, with an IV drip by your side.“

“Today was my first time coming to Magass Family Medicine & Urgent care and I was blown away at the service that was provided. I have used many Urgent/Express cares/Patient first centers over the years, but this place will now be my go-to for any sort of non-emergency type needs, even though I have two that are less than 5 minutes from my house. Due to the previously mentioned urgent care centers being bought out by corporations, gone were the days of a family “mom and pop” type atmosphere, or so I thought. I was a walk in patient, and even being so, I was seen in a timely fashion. For those with children, you’ll be happy to know that they have a small table with little chairs and a few books for the little ones. If you bring a coloring book and some crayons; your little one would be occupied while you have to wait. (Though the wait time wasn’t long.) The girl behind the desk also doubled as the medical assistant and she was very good at her job. She was welcoming and kind, and she helped calm my nerves. When I had to provide a urine sample, she offered me some water to help the process along. When it was time for the doctor to come in, I was surprised to see that he was the one who actually owns the clinic. He was welcoming, kind, informative and patient. I truly felt that he listened to me and at no point did I feel like he was rushing me along. I seem to always get nervous at the doctors, which often causes me to over explain and give more details than necessary, and while that is annoying for most people, Dr. Magass had been a patient listener who made me feel seen and heard. Since he never glanced at his watch/the wall clock, I didn’t feel rushed and it help calm my nerves. Plus, he had a calming presence which also helped me feel calm. He also asked important questions and made sure that I would have antibiotics and Diflucan to treat any unpleasant side effects that 50% of women experience after being treated with antibiotics. In fact, he was the FIRST DOCTOR TO EVER ASK ME ABOUT THAT, even though it is an incredibly common problem and should be asked at all places every time antibiotics are prescribed, to help prevent a second visit. Overall, Dr. Magass made me feel like he truly cared about my wellbeing and health, and I am very appreciative of that. If you are looking to be seen and understood by the doctor and staff, appreciate and want that “mom and pop” type atmosphere at the doctors, don’t want to be rushed through your appointment, and be treated by someone who seems to truly care about your wellbeing, then I *STRONGLY* recommend this place. (As soon as I left the doctors office, I texted my mom and other family members raving about how great this place happens to be.) Dr. Magass Family Medicine & Urgent Care will be *THE ONLY* Urgent care that I will be going to from here on out. This place is easily 5/5 stars!! Thank you, Dr. Magass & staff!“

My throat had been constricting, and he explained my condition and the options clearly and then we took action to remedy the problem. “I found out about Joyce from Groupon and decided to book an appointment. I am so glad I did because I had such a lovely and great experience with Joyce! She provided paperwork when I first came in to inquire about my skin, my diet, and my general health. She gave me pointers on how to better my skin through lifestyle changes and product changes without pressuring me to buy anything . Joyce explained what she was doing throughout the facial process and taught me a little more about my specific skin issues. The spa experience itself was immensely relaxing and the products used were gentle on my skin. I woke up the next day and still felt like my skin was well treated. I’ve made additional appointments to go back because I think multiple sessions will really make a difference with my acne and oily prone skin.The entrance is a bit hard to find but it is up a set of wooden steps through the Village Electrolysis door.“

“I needed an appointment rather quickly due to an injury and I got in within a week. The location was a bit of a drive but directly across from emergency at Sinai hospital. Upon entering the parking lot you have to get a ticket and you have to pay for it before you leave the building-negative stars for charging a patient to park so they can get in to see the physician. The building was clean. The doctor office was large and I checked in quickly and they took me back with a 5 minute wait. The PA came in first and reviewed all of my paperwork and I explained what happened. She was very helpful and pleasant and not rushing me or anything. She finished her exam and then went to talk with the surgeon as he was reviewing my MRI The doctor is very friendly and he explained every detail about my options. Always trying to avoid surgery and I have had a surgery from the doctor and he knows my concerns so he answered all of my questions and I have nothing but great things to say about the doctor, staff etc. if you need a spinal surgeon I highly recommend Dr. Zalatimo. I'm a healthcare professional myself and I can say that he is a great doctor/surgeon. I would never recommend anyone unless I was 100% comfortable with him. Definitely 5/5. I'd give more if I could.“
