“I had a very good experience overall at this office, but I did want to mention one interaction that left me uncomfortable.

The front desk staff, especially Jennifer, was excellent. She was friendly, efficient, and took the time to explain my benefits and options clearly and thoroughly. Dr. Been was also fantastic. He explained everything very well, had great bedside manner, and, as an added bonus, is a Bears fan. I really appreciated the care I received from both of them.

My only negative experience was with Linda, the assistant who helped me before I saw the doctor. From the moment I walked in, her demeanor toward me felt unusually cold and uncomfortable. She was sitting next to Jennifer and did not greet me, and throughout our interaction I felt as though she was on edge or simply did not want to deal with me. She wasn't overtly rude, so it's difficult to point to one specific comment or action, but the overall tone was noticeably unpleasant.

What made the interaction stand out even more was seeing Linda assist the gentleman who came in immediately after me. He was an older white gent, and I noticed a very different demeanor from her—she was warm, friendly, and noticeably more pleasant with him. As a Black man, that contrast was difficult not to notice, particularly because I had just experienced the opposite treatment from her.

Despite this interaction, I'm still giving the office five stars because my overall experience was excellent. Jennifer and Dr. Been provided outstanding service, and I don't think one uncomfortable interaction should overshadow the positive experience I had with the rest of the staff.

They will probably know exactly who I am based on this feedback, and I'm completely fine with that. I'm not writing this anonymously to attack anyone. I'm simply sharing my honest experience and the impression I was left with. I believe feedback is most useful when it is specific, fair, and honest, and that's what I'm trying to provide here.“

“Dr. Dave is the best & the rest of the staff is super courteous & helpful. They have the cutting edge tech to see into your soul, jk. But it will help them give you the best prescription you've ever had, that's not regulated by the FDA. You'll see so clear, it'll make you question your closest relationships. Also kidding there. You'll prolly need a different Dr for that.

“I have been going to Barnett-Wamboldt for 15+ years and have always found Dr. Deb to be friendly, uber-competent and professional. The office is small and quaint with a huge selection of the latest frames to choose from. Technician/reception person, Renata, is knowledgable and accommodating. She can walk you through the whole process of insurance and anything about ordering frames and fitting your glasses. Love this place and would highly recommend to anyone!“

“My parents and I recently visited the Walmart Vision Center in Waukegan, and I cannot say enough good things about the experience. From start to finish, they were treated with kindness, patience, and genuine respect.

A special thank you to Vicky and Adriana, who were absolutely wonderful. As bilingual Spanish speakers, they took the time to communicate clearly with my parents, answer all of their questions, and make them feel comfortable throughout the entire process. It meant so much to see my Spanish-speaking parents treated with such dignity and care—something that can unfortunately be difficult to find at times.

The optometrist was equally outstanding. He was professional, thorough, friendly, and also spoke Spanish, which made the experience even better. It was great to see a team so committed to serving a diverse community and ensuring every patient feels understood and valued.

My parents both received eye exams and ordered new glasses, and the entire process was smooth, efficient, and pleasant. We left feeling grateful for the exceptional customer service and level of care they received.
