Went for the first time and had a fabulous experience! Gregory was so friendly and did amazing work. I had a wedding later in the day and he made sure my hair would last hours until the event. I was super happy with how my hair looked and will definitely book again for my next event!
I have to confess that I am a barfly which means I pay for a Drybar membership and I have used their services regularly for years. So overall I find value in their service. Not all stylists have the same quality and some blowouts are better than others but overall, across hundreds of blowouts, most are pretty good and some are very good....so I keep coming back. I do however live in two states and travel frequently. This means I have been to Drybar all over the US and I have extensively visited the Chicago area salons as well as the Phoenix area salons. And through this lens, if I have to compare, Phoenix is much better. In Phoenix (consistently at each of their six locations) you are greeted professionally and immediately and offered coffee or water and asked if you want to add a service. Blowouts almost always start on time and the manager on duty checks in to make sure you are satisfied. They do not charge for extra time either (although I have not had that charge in Chicago, just know it exists). My experience in Chicago (Lincoln Park and River North) is that the check in happens sporadically. Sometimes you sit for 15 minutes before anyone says anything. You are never offered water or coffee (not sure if they will even provide if you ask) and they don't even have guest wifi. My membership includes an add-on service each month but the stylists often forget to do it, so I have to remember to ask for the credit back. I still like the way my hair looks but it's the little customer service touches that are consistently missing. These do make a difference. For many people getting their hair done is a luxury experience and a little more focus on the customer experience would go a long way. Its not an accident that all six locations in Phoenix get it right every time. Its not a dfference in the stylist capabilites but it is a difference in the training and priorities set by leadership. I am still a loyal member....feedback is a gift.
I was a bit nervous coming because of the low rating on Yelp. However, it was better on google reviews. I won a free blowout so it didn't hurt to try it out. Booking was pretty straight forward, but it didn't let you select a stylist. My hair is very thick, long and curly, so I'm very particular about who touches my hair. I did flag that in my appointment. When I arrived, I checked in and waited a few minutes to be seen. Kay was my stylist. She took me to the back to wash and detangle my hair. I let her know I wanted a sleek blowout. She was quick and gentle with my hair. We blew it out and flat ironed as well. Because my hair went over the 45 min block, I had to pay a $15 fee. I totally understand. Kay did an amazing job and gave me her info. I would definitely return to her!
