“My experience with California Energy Consultant Service started with an insulation estimate from Mitch. He was knowledgeable, informative, and took the time to explain the project and costs. We were getting several other quotes, but what really stood out was that later that evening, Phil, the owner, personally reached out to ask about my experience and make sure my questions had been answered, whether we decided to hire them or not.
Coming from an HVAC sales background, that impressed me. I appreciate working with family-owned businesses, and having the owner personally follow up showed a level of involvement and accountability you do not always see. During our conversation, I mentioned that I was also getting bids for a roof replacement. I had already met with six roofing companies, but after my experience with Mitch and Phil, I decided to get one more estimate. We ultimately hired California Energy for both the insulation and roof projects.
This has been a very extensive project with several other contractors working at our home at the same time. California Energy has been flexible and willing to work around scheduling changes, other trades, and unexpected issues. Jamie has been the project manager throughout the process and has done a great job coordinating all the moving pieces, keeping the project moving, and making sure my concerns and needs were addressed. I have also worked briefly with Tony, another project manager, and he has been excellent as well.
John and Oscar handled the roofing work and have been great to work with. They have been professional, responsive, and willing to address details as they came up. The roof is now complete, the old attic insulation has been removed, and we are waiting for some electrical work to be finished before the new insulation is blown back in.
I also have to give a special shout-out to Jose. While working at our home, he identified a pre-existing problem with our HVAC system that could have led to a major repair in the future. He did not just point it out and move on. He advocated for us and worked directly with our existing HVAC company to get the issue properly investigated. It ultimately turned out that our two-year-old rooftop HVAC unit was defective, and our HVAC company is now replacing it. Jose’s thoroughness and willingness to speak up may have saved us from a much bigger problem later. Thank you, Jose.
With a project this large, I do not expect every single thing to go perfectly. What matters to me is how a company responds when something comes up. Any legitimate concerns I have raised have been acknowledged and addressed, which says a lot.
We still have a few minor items to finish and the insulation to blow back in, so I plan to update this review once everything is officially complete with pictures. As of right now, though, California Energy has earned an A+ from me.
The fact that I can remember so many employees by name, including Mitch, Phil, Jamie, Tony, John, Oscar, and Jose, really says something about the connection I have made with this team and the effort everyone has put into our project. If the rest of the company continues to follow the example Phil sets as an owner, I feel very good about the company we chose.”
