“I honestly wasnt expecting much, I thought it would be another straightforward martial arts gym where you just drill moves and leave. But it was actually super fun, the instructor took the time to correct everyone and explain why each movement works in a real scenario instead of just showing you the steps. The whole vibe is low key and friendly but still focused, people clearly want to be there and get better together. One guy had been there like two years and showed me a few foot placement tricks after class just because he saw I was struggling which was really cool.

“I was led to American Kenpo Concepts more than a quarter century ago when I saw the Kenpo movement of a student. As a result, I went in search of the student’s instructor. I visited several American Kenpo Karate schools in search of the Kenpo movement to no avail. My persistence to find the instructor eventually led to Mr. Tommy Chavies school - American Kenpo Concepts. I observed a class taught by Mr. Chavies and I observed the unique Kenpo movement I was intrigued by.

Since that time, I have been fortunate to be a student under the tutelage of Mr. Chavies. The study of American Kenpo Karate has led me to clarity in all facets of daily life as well as in the understanding of the Kenpo Alphabet of Motion applied to a combative situation. At this point in my study, I have discovered that Kenpo movement imagined within a combative situation could be effortlessly applied using continuous motion, comparative analysis and creativity.

The study of American Kenpo Karate as a student of Mr. Chavies has led me to appreciate the profound perennial study of the art which always stretches my thinking. “Like many of us, I’ve had my own personal struggles and issues. 8 years ago, I met sensei Marcos Rubio. I walked into the dojo one day and tried out a lesson with him. One lesson was all it took for me to know this was something I wanted to be a part of and I made the decision to sign up.
