“My hat is off to Meri Tepper, Steve Oleson and Matt Speer of Associated Housewrights. We first began an exploratory conversation several years ago with Matt (founder) about an over-garage addition. I have been watching AH projects around Madison for 20 years and had always been Impressed with process and results (and let's be real, they have the best friggin yard sings :) Anyway, that plan never materialized because Covid made us realize we needed a lot more space and we began a 2 years long search for a new home. We almost purchased one, but a consultation from Steve (Project Lead) on some of the results of our inspections steered us away due to 100K+ of deferred maintenance. Invaluable honesty and opinion that helped us make the right decision.Eventually though we did find our "dream home" which is an historic property in Madison that had been badly neglected and was in need of renovation and re-imagining. So far we have only been working with Meri (architect) and Steve on the plans and design and let me tell you, these folks are such a breath of fresh air in an industry that could always take you for a ride, especially in the last few years. They are kind, fun, smart, skilled and driven. Most importantly to me, they respect that I bring a lot of experience to the table from my own work on historic preservation arts over the years and are willing to work with me and my wife as peers.
