“We should have hired GAB first. Learn from our mistake.
We originally hired another contractor because his bid was about $700 lower and he came recommended by others in the community. GAB was one of four companies we received estimates from using Thumbtack. The other bids were either far too expensive or didn’t propose an approach that made sense for our project.
For context, our home was built in 1998 and had never been painted. Years of neglect left one weathered section on the back with failing T1-11 siding that needed attention before painting. Alex’s recommendation was exactly what we wanted, which was to replace only the damaged bottom section, keep the solid upper T1-11 as structural sheathing, wrap the entire wall, and install HardiePlank over everything. Replacing all of the T1-11 would have added unnecessary cost without providing any real benefit.
Unfortunately, the first contractor turned what should have been a straightforward project into a nightmare. He tried to hide poor workmanship behind caulk and paint, leaving improperly sized boards, gaps between planks, and easily the worst caulking I’ve ever seen. We ended up tearing everything off and starting over.
Alex and his crew were the complete opposite. Their workmanship was outstanding, and the photos speak for themselves. Alex accidentally disconnected our hose bib during the project, but he told us immediately, fixed it right away, and made sure everything worked before leaving. That level of honesty and accountability goes a long way.
They completed the entire project in a single day, exactly as promised. Olga was fantastic to work with throughout the process. She handled scheduling, pricing, and every question we had with quick, clear communication and kept everything organized from start to finish.
