“The end of December I started having what I thought was extreme dry eye symptoms. I thought it was possibly a reaction from my contacts. I went to my regular eye doctor and was told everything was fine, take some dry eye drops as needed and I would be fine. My symptoms were getting worse and I was no longer able to see out of my glasses. I went back to my regular eye doctor two more times, and he said the same thing, looks like dry eyes, do some drops and I would be fine.
My vision was most definitely not fine, it was getting worse every day, to the point I could not read my computer screen any longer and my eyes hurt so bad, I could literally feel my eyeballs! I knew i needed to find a new eye doctor!
I was finally able to get into see Dr. Mayes in April. He told me I had some of the worst corona scratches and damage he’s seen! I was literally legally blind!!! And had I not gone in, I was on my way to corneal ulcers, which could have very well lead to permanent blindness! Dr. Mayes explained all the possibilities of how this could have happened to me and then started treatment in the office the same day!! He was able to a placenta membrane treatment on my eyes, which healed my corneas in several days, rather than weeks of steroids alone! When the schedule was full, he told his staff to schedule me back for my rechecks on his lunch, because he was going to whatever was needed to get my vision back and my eyes healed! At one point he told me if I was having complications with one of the treatments, he would come in on his day off if he needed to!
When I very first meet Dr. Mayes, I asked him if I would be able to ever wear contacts again, because ultimately I see so much better with them and I would like to be able to see my daughters college graduation in May. He asked me when her graduation date was, and he said he would do his best. Every visit, he remembered my daughter’s graduation and said I would be able to be in contacts by then! Dr. Mayes is truly an amazing man, he saved my vision, remembered my daughter’s graduation date, and kept his word! On May 15, I saw my baby girl graduate UNR with my vision completely restored, and I was back in contacts, like it never happened!
His staff is also wonderful! His assistants are all great! The front desk just knew me by name when I came in. And Chelsea, thank you for being so patient with me during my contact order!“
