6416 Grovedale Dr STE 302B, Alexandria“First I didn’t intent to start with martial arts again, but when I saw the FB ad, I actually thought "well, why not". I didn’t know a lot about Karate, except for that there are different styles like Shotokan or Kyokushin, but I didn’t know any details. They explained that they were teaching a style (Shorin Ryu) with older roots that would come from Okinawa. The centerline orientation and the more deflecting than blocking movements actually reminded me of Wing Chun, what I used to do a long time ago. Virginia Dojo’s aim is to train adults. Competitions or movements that require acrobatic skills are not performed here. Foot techniques are also set lower, which reminded me of Wing Chun as well. Teenagers who want to let off steam with their peers would be bored here. It is a school for people who are already further along in life, a school which is run conscientiously and also with a certain seriousness, but reasonably and calmly. Unfortunately, I've had several bad experiences in Wing Chun with "sifus" who showed off their skills on the students and put them down instead of teaching them things. That's a shame, because I really liked Wing Chun. I've only been at Virginia Dojo for a good month now, so I'm still a complete white belt noob, neither do I have experience with other Karate styles, but I feel comfortable there, I like the atmosphere and thus can recommend the place with 5 stars if you're aged 30+ or don't have championship ambitions.“

11226 Waples Mill Rd, Fairfax“Lead by Example After School Care has been hands down the best after-school program our family has ever experienced. The staff is genuinely caring and kind, and they’ve built a place that helps kids grow in confidence, leadership, and a real sense of community.
They have supported our daughter in so many ways — including helping her with reading — and we’ve seen real growth because of it. Belt testing has also been amazing for her. Having clear, short-term goals has given her motivation and drive, and she’s so proud of herself as she works toward each new belt.
Our younger daughter already can’t wait to go next year, which says everything. Mr. Randolph has already built such a sweet connection with her, and it’s clear how much the kids are seen and cared for there.
They are incredibly reliable with pick-ups, even on early release days, which takes so much stress off parents. And they are a total lifesaver on snow days and FCPS days off — the kids love the field trips and always come home happy and excited.
This is truly the best place to send your kids — after school, on days off, or for camps. Mr. Tue, Mr. Randolph, and Mr. Nicholas are unmatched and consistently go above and beyond for the kids.
As a bonus, their monthly Parents’ Night Out is always a huge hit. Our kids are pumped every time and never want to leave.
We’re so grateful to have found Lead by Example.“

4139 Merchant Plaza, Lake Ridge“Sempai Lem was a very nice and honorable man. He was very forthcoming and helpful when teaching me.“
“We’ve been attending this martial arts gym for about a year, and the experience has been incredible for our family. Our son, who is naturally hesitant to try new things, was welcomed by the staff at his own pace and is now thriving. His confidence has grown tremendously, and he’s learned to embrace challenges and handle uncomfortable situations with ease.
The classes are well-structured and provide the right balance of discipline and support for kids of all ages and abilities. Both of our boys’ confidence has skyrocketed since joining. They especially love Coach Natashia, the leader of the youth program, who has a remarkable ability to connect with each athlete and bring out their best.
We couldn’t be happier with the positive impact this gym has had on our children’s growth, confidence, and overall well-being.“

Our children have grown so much in their confidence and skill during their time here. The quality of instruction is outstanding, and the team is truly dedicated to the students' growth and success. 2449 N Harrison St, Arlington“Both of my kids train here, and we are incredibly impressed with the quality of instruction. The teachers are warm, attentive, and amazingly skilled at connecting with each child—remembering their names and adapting lessons to meet them where they are. The individualized attention really helps them grow and stay motivated.
The entire studio is run with exceptional organization. Classes flow smoothly, the structure is consistent, and everything operates like a well-oiled machine. It’s clear the staff is dedicated to creating a positive, disciplined, and supportive environment.
My children look forward to every class, and we’ve seen such meaningful progress. I highly recommend this school to any family looking for top-tier martial arts training!“
“This studio is such a find! We tried another martial arts program in the area and found it so impersonal and robotic. Coach Dante, Coach Antonio, and the rest of the staff go above and beyond with their students, building their confidence and encouraging them to push themselves. They also make sure the kids still have fun. This is the first sports program our son is excited to attend every week and it's been awesome to watch him participate. The studio itself was a little hard to track down with Google maps but it's worth seeking out.“

210 Dominion Rd NE, Vienna“mountain kim martial arts has been one of the best decisions ive made in my life. ive been coming here for almost 10 years now and growing up with learning taekwondo has been life changing.
not only did i learn taekwondo here, i also learned discipline along with respect. i used to be a pretty loud kid, however when i was in class, i became focused to learn. the instructors here all have the student’s best interest at heart and will always try their absolute best to help them get better while still pushing them enough so that it is not too easy. not only do they teach taekwondo, however also help overall physical condition, helping to stay healthy.
taekwondo ended up being my main sport and this place is the reason i kept going. being here has given me tons of positive experiences and friendships. i couldnt have been more grateful for the instructors, and growth this place has given me.“

The school teaches four Korean martial arts styles: Taekwondo, Judo, Hapkido, and Sword. It has a before and after school program for kids, as well as summer, winter, and spring break day camps. There are numerous social events that help the students, families, and staff connect with each other, and additional special training opportunities are available. I earned my black belt in Hapkido here, and now my son is learning Taekwondo. We both love OSA!“
