The instructors are patient, knowledgeable, and truly invested in each student’s progress. My child has gained confidence, discipline, and physical strength while having a great time. The classes are well-structured, and the environment is both fun and encouraging. I highly recommend this program to any parent looking for a great martial arts program!“

6416 Grovedale Dr STE 302B, Alexandria“First I didn’t intent to start with martial arts again, but when I saw the FB ad, I actually thought "well, why not". I didn’t know a lot about Karate, except for that there are different styles like Shotokan or Kyokushin, but I didn’t know any details. They explained that they were teaching a style (Shorin Ryu) with older roots that would come from Okinawa. The centerline orientation and the more deflecting than blocking movements actually reminded me of Wing Chun, what I used to do a long time ago. Virginia Dojo’s aim is to train adults. Competitions or movements that require acrobatic skills are not performed here. Foot techniques are also set lower, which reminded me of Wing Chun as well. Teenagers who want to let off steam with their peers would be bored here. It is a school for people who are already further along in life, a school which is run conscientiously and also with a certain seriousness, but reasonably and calmly. Unfortunately, I've had several bad experiences in Wing Chun with "sifus" who showed off their skills on the students and put them down instead of teaching them things. That's a shame, because I really liked Wing Chun. I've only been at Virginia Dojo for a good month now, so I'm still a complete white belt noob, neither do I have experience with other Karate styles, but I feel comfortable there, I like the atmosphere and thus can recommend the place with 5 stars if you're aged 30+ or don't have championship ambitions.“

900 S Washington St b101, Falls Church“I highly recommend this school, and these instructors!
It's been an absolutely *fantastic* learning experience. Husband & wife team of Shifu Chris & Weiwei Friedman are obviously, **extremely** knowledgeable and accomplished in Shaolin Kung Fu -- and very fit, too! They're also friendly, patient, and have a great sense of humor. And the other students are kind and friendly, too. We're all just learning and improving together.
The classes and training are suitable for adults of all ages, if you have decent basic mobility. You don't need any prior knowledge or training in martial arts. This is NOT like a kickboxing or cross-fit class ... it's not at that intensity level, but you can get a good workout from it.
I studied martial arts MANY years ago -- including earning a black sash in a different system of kung fu, having studied at schools in 3 different states to earn that. The other system was "good," but this experience with Shifu Chris & Weiwei is far more authentic, informative, and enriching.
I had subscribed to Inside Kung Fu Magazine for 20yrs, and was surprised that Shifu Chris had articles in several of those back issues (!!) from when he & Weiwei lived in China years ago. There he is ... studying and training with the leaders and students there!
Try this out. You will like it. ??“

This dojo has developed her social skills, selfdiscipline, physical health, and developed her personal responsibility, self confidence.Since she has joined the class I saw her grow mentally and physically. This dojo treats her like family and I would definitely recommend this dojo for any new comers.“
“Best of the best!! Their coaches are super awesome. Their knowledge, skills, and abilities are by far second-to-none. We have been taking our 2 boys for the past 3 years, and we are extremely grateful. Rizal & Natashia are excellent on what they do. Keep up the great work. I highly recommend CMAA to everyone out there.“

“This studio is such a find! We tried another martial arts program in the area and found it so impersonal and robotic. Coach Dante, Coach Antonio, and the rest of the staff go above and beyond with their students, building their confidence and encouraging them to push themselves. They also make sure the kids still have fun. This is the first sports program our son is excited to attend every week and it's been awesome to watch him participate. The studio itself was a little hard to track down with Google maps but it's worth seeking out.“

Yong In far surpasses all expectations and helped my son regain confidence after a serious bullying incident in elementary school. Now my son is a rising Junior and a black belt. Family owned and run, Yong In does a great job of welcoming new and returning students under their wing.
We highly recommend Yong In Taekwondo College.“

3848 Blenheim Blvd, Fairfax“Oriental Sports Academy is an excellent martial arts school that serves all ages, from young children to teens to adults. The school teaches four Korean martial arts styles: Taekwondo, Judo, Hapkido, and Sword. It has a before and after school program for kids, as well as summer, winter, and spring break day camps. There are numerous social events that help the students, families, and staff connect with each other, and additional special training opportunities are available. I earned my black belt in Hapkido here, and now my son is learning Taekwondo. We both love OSA!“

210 Dominion Rd NE, Vienna“My 3 kids have all gone to Mt Kim taekwondo for years and the youngest (5) started later and is still in it. The older two are on pause due to scheduling conflicts. I have nothing but good things to say. My shy one was brought out of her shell through this class and gained confidence in her athletic ability. All of them went willingly and looked forward to progressing to the next tape/belt - a great motivator! All the instructors are so good at getting to know the kids individually and working with them to help them advance. They split the kids up in groups of 3-4 for forms and technique, which is super helpful. I did tkd growing up and think this would have been great if my dojang had the resources tot each us in small groups. Highly recommend Mt Kim.“

18 Roth St, Alexandria“Josh Sensei is a passionate and knowledgeable instructor. With a keen eye for detail and a drive for progression, you will be in the same good hands that I have been in since the middle of 2019. Between the training atmosphere and the various dojo get togethers, outside of COVID-19 times of course, Josh Sensei has bolstered a welcoming atmosphere that anyone willing to come in and dedicate the time to training should enjoy their stay. On top of this, he is willing to go out of his way to answer questions both inside and out of class and has even provided extra trainings at the sole cost of his time on special occasions. Come prepared to learn and work hard as those efforts will yield gains in yourself that you have yet to know as the value of the training provided is well worth the cost.“

1305 N Jackson St, Arlington“In a metro area rich with martial arts dojo, this is in the top tier. Teacher has multiple decades of experience, and the advanced ranks in the school warmly welcome beginners, who get direct personalized instruction. Classes start with stretching and mobility drills, cover basic and advanced techniques, and the students' skills and challenges grow appropriately over time. You'll probably learn something new every single class and improve mobility, flexibility, and conditioning along the way. Style is "traditional" aikido (Iwama) and includes weapons instruction. Approximately equal blend of men and women. Chill and low ego. Extremely welcoming and interesting people from all walks of life. Ridiculously reasonable fees, especially given the very high quality of instruction. Highly recommended!“
