About Second Side Yoga

Second Side Yoga is a thriving yoga community that started humbly a decade ago with a few students at Jonas's house. Today, it has grown into a welcoming space where independent-minded students and teachers come together to practice personal and communal growth. Located in an unassuming low-hung building in the East Village/City Place, Second Side Yoga is described as a "yoga speakeasy" without a visible sign. However, upon entering, there is a sense of warmth and inclusiveness, as one reviewer notes, "elite studio with none of the pretension." Second Side Yoga is a testament to how yoga can help overcome obstacles and lead to a state of bliss. As Jonas, the founder, says, "If a guy with broken English can do it, all of us can do it. Come only if you want to get better." The community offers a diverse range of classes, from Sunrise Yoga with a DJ to Sol Juice afterward, all of which leave students feeling centered, energized, and part of a supportive network. Reviewers praise the exceptional teachers at Second Side Yoga, including Jonas, the "grandmaster," as well as Dana, Dove, Cande, and Gillian, who are described as "great" and "bright lights" for the community. Ultimately, Second Side Yoga is a place for growth and connection, where students leave feeling lighter and more flexible, both physically and mentally.

With discipline, consistency, and the right guidance, yoga becomes more than just physical movement—it becomes a path of growth. That kind of progress depends on both a willing student and an experienced teacher. I’ve been fortunate to find that at Second Side. Thank you Jonas, Seung, and to all the teachers I’ve met along the way.

Since for more than a decade—I’ve made it a habit to learn one new thing each year and not consider it “learned” unless I’ve taken it to a competitive or professional level. That path has taken me through martial arts, rugby, climbing, swimming, languages and more, and it’s given me a clear sense of what real coaching and solid instruction feel like. When I set out to explore yoga more seriously, I tried a few studios before joining Second Side.

The space is grounded and instantly welcoming. I accidentally ended up in Vinyasa X, their hardest class, thinking it was mixed‑level (very tough!), but it showed me exactly where...read full review
