My violin is a cheap one. Like CHEAP cheap. It has spray varnish, no figuring on the back, hardwood fingerboard and pegs, all of which us to be expected from an instrument like this. The bridge doesn't have much of an arch to it (more of a fiddle bridge) and the action is WAY too high. It also has a viola tailgut on instead of a violin one. These are all things my parents never noticed when they bought it for me as a teen but now that I'm a luthier myself, I can see how the bridge and the tailgut may have made it difficult for me to learn to play since I was constantly fighting with the instrument.
