About University of Rochester Medicine Primary Care – Highland Family Medicine

University of Rochester Medicine Primary Care – Highland Family Medicine receives mixed feedback, with praise for its medical care and complaints about administrative issues. Patients describe doctors like Dr. Castiglia as fantastic, noting he actually listens, answers questions in understandable terms, fully explains treatments, and considers input. He is great at arranging referrals and the office handles insurance issues. Another doctor goes above and beyond to find solutions to symptoms. Dr. Maguire is called outstanding. Staff are described as caring and listening, with friendly and courteous Medical assistants. The office has walk-in hours every morning for urgent needs, and having the pharmacy and clinic together allows doctors to talk to pharmacists for efficiency. However, some report that trying to get someone to answer the phone is a nightmare, with condescending and angry responses. There are also complaints about not enough parking, non-urgent appointments requiring a month wait, and an inability to get a price for an office visit without insurance, leading one patient to look elsewhere. Despite these issues, many patients say they have always received good care and were greeted with smiles by everyone.

I have only been here for the past year, and only a handful of visits. By experience has been pleasant overall. They are very busy, so there seems to be a lot of people in a small location, but the flow works well enough. Parking has been easy, ive never had an extended wait in the wait room nor for the doctor. The doctor took a great amount of time with me, asked a lot of questions and communicated well.

Dr. Castiglia is fantastic. He actually listens to what I have to say and answers my questions in terms I can understand. He fully explains treatments and medications and considers my input. He is great at arranging referrals when needed and the office handles all the insurance (Medicare/Medicaid) issues. He is quick to respond to on-line questions and appointments are quick and easy through My Chart. I highly recommend his services.

I was supposed to have a virtual follow-up visit this morning that was important, as I'm suffering from chronic insomnia. I was told this would be easier since it was just a follow-up. I had not done a virtual visit before. As of 7am I had not gotten a link or anything for the visit and messaged about it. I got no response. Nobody called me. Nobody messaged. Nobody e-mailed. After 9am I get a message about how I missed my appointment. No, I didn't miss the appointment. It was made incorrectly after I was talked into the virtual visit and then nobody monitored communications to see my message, well in advance, questioning the situation. Between this and getting passed...read full review
