tl;dr
I had a small job, replacing a deadbolt with a keypad deadbolt, which I was going to do myself- easy enough. I ran into a snag when I saw the existing hole for the lock was not the standard 2 1/8”. I did not have the correct drill bit to fix this myself, plus I was concerned with my lack of skill I would not do a clean, centered job. I read online about a door lock guide clamp, considered briefly moving forward myself, but because I did not want to end up buying a new front door, decided to call Shane. I really appreciated his integrity— the first thing he did was offer guidance on how to complete the job myself, referencing the guide. I still wanted him to do it so I could see how it should be done. He explained his work and gave me some pro tips along the way. I am thrilled with my new keypad deadbolt and also feel confident I can do the remaining doors myself. No loss of business to Shane— I have a long list of work to give him!“

After serving on a church renovation committee I have a few thoughts to share if you are in the process of hiring a contractor to build or renovate your worship space.

First remember that it’s God’s house and God’s money, Glorify Him Alone. Get the best value.

Get at least two bids three preferably. If it’s a large project consider using a one stop contractor to bring all the necessary subs together. Local specialty subs can usually provide lower bids if you need only one or two areas renovated (ie carpet, pew refinishing, paint). Review Google and Facebook reviews. Visit their website and read through it. Check four references. Visit previous sites that the contractors have worked at to view their work. If any part of the project has contingencies or time and material, have the contractor state a cost not to exceed so you know a worst case scenario for budgeting. Negotiate pricing with your preferred contractor by using other contractor’s bids. Make sure that the work you paid for is completed to your satisfaction, maybe hire a third party inspector.“

“Lanier Builders helped renovate the back porch on my house. The porch had been all screen at one time, but someone had enclosed it with boards to make it better for storage. Lanier removed the enclosure for me and turned it back into a screen porch. Now that is my favorite spot in the house. They were fast, and they cleaned up before they left. The price wasn't cheap but they were reasonable. I don't really care how they drive, they did a good job on my porch!“
