“We came in from Indianapolis to visit our freshman son at U Minn for Family Weekend and I had scheduled an appointment for him because he desperately needed a trim, and he has beautiful, long soft curls down to mid-back and has never learned how best to care for his hair. What I didn't know was that he had several mats in the underlayer of the back of his head, including one big one from tying his hair up for soccer, where it then bounced around and got sweaty and over time this just happened. Trinis was his stylist, and I can't say enough good things about her and her naturally calm, laid-back, non-judgemental demeanor with this kid who NEVER lets anyone touch his hair, and undoubtedly felt embarrassed and self-conscious about those mats. She and another stylist worked carefully together to untangle and free his hair, which was no quick task. They were so kind and lovely about it, I could cry. When we scheduled a haircut, I didn't know and wasn't able to schedule that as part of the service, but they were so gracious about it. Afterwards, I watched Trinis work to form his curls individually, gently scrunch and diffuse them, and give him a health trim that made such a difference. She is a gem, and we are so grateful. Thank you Curl Salon and Trinis for helping him get his hair back to healthy and beautiful, and making sure he learned some tips and techniques along the way. It was a great first experience at a salon specifically for curly folks, and I feel sure it has set him up for a future self-care hair routine that works for him, and in which he understands how important it is to visit professionals who are trained to make sure he has the best results possible for his hair type.
