Thanks French Drain Man for taking care of my over-flowing gutter problem by installing a much better drainage system.
I had dreaded the thought that I would have to pay someone to install a french drain, that it would be expensive. Then I stumbled on to the French Drain Man, that all I needed was their Buried Downspout Kit #10, that I could install it myself. Having never tackled such a project as this, it took a couple of days to dig the 20’ trench (didn’t need the 25’). My initial dig took an about 1 day, and then I thought I heard someone speaking Chinese below the bottom of the trench at the low point. I had overestimated the slope requirement, thinking it needed to be about 4%, only to realize it only needed to be about 1%. So, I spent another day redoing the trench. After that, it wasn’t too long before I had the parts installed. But before I covered the trench with the dirt I had dug out, I ran a test with the water from my outdoor hose, not wanting to wait until it rained enough to show me whether or not I messed up. Glad I did, because I had not properly secured the connection to the pop-up emitter, causing water to flood the trench at the low point. Fixed that and am now waiting for the next heavy rain to give me a thumbs up or a thumbs down.
I live in Fl and had a problem with washout of my Yard after installing gutters on a portion of my house. Our lot is elevated and has a dramatic slope from our house to low laying wet lands. The concentrated flow from the downspout creates washout and runts in the yard. I found the videos French Drain Man posted when I was researching solutions for my drainage issues. After watching the videos I was confident that I could fix this myself and I ordered the Premium Pro Kit for buried downspouts. The kit contained all the items I needed to build a system to move the water direct from the downspout to the wetlands without washing out my yard. The kit arrived quickly. The parts are top quality. The installation was super easy for this DIY’r with no real drainage experience. It all fit together and snapped together with ease. The most difficult part of the project was digging the trench. But that was some good quality time with my son as we shared the labor burden. While we are certainly not professional grade, we are super pleased with the results and look forward to the next rain storm. I appreciate the time FDM puts into their videos and designs of the products. They certainly put drainage projects within reach of the DIY community. And I love that the products are made in the USA and come from my home state of Michigan.
