“I never write reviews but after my outstanding experience with Nial Hanley and Hanley Carpentry I really felt that I should. I was referred to Nial Hanley at a very difficult time via a friend who knew of his great work and reputation. The contractor we had previously hired to rebuild our self-managed South End brownstone condo building had abandoned the job mid-way through leaving us in a terrible position. The gutted building was close to rough finish but had lots of loose ends including outstanding inspections and multiple subcontractor issues. It was an incredibly complicated and stressful situation with a lot at stake for five separate unit owners. We needed a contractor who did high quality work, who could navigate the complexities and headaches of the job and the personalities of multiple unit owners and, get the job done quickly. In today's building climate that's an incredibly tall order. Nial, who was genuinely sympathetic to our situation, turned out to be a life saver. He stepped right, got the job back on track quickly and helped us find ways to manage cost cutting and trade-offs while still ensuring high quality results. He was very responsive, flexible and easy to work. He did a great job staying patient and helping us to make decisions to stay on track. Nial really shines as a problem solver and is great in a crisis. For example, we had a sprinkler pipe burst with flooding in the building. We needed to shut the water off at the street level but there was a car sitting on the access point. Nial, along with his crew and some others, lifted the car up so Boston Water and Sewer could get access - pretty amazing! His crew, clearly loyal to him, were excellent - reliable, polite, neat and willing to go the extra distance. Nial takes great pride in his work, cares deeply about satisfying his customer and is a pleasure to work with. I would happily work with him again. I can't recommend Nial and Hanley Carpentry enough.“
