There were parts of our house from three different decades and you could tell exactly where one remodel stopped and another started. We finally did the whole interior at once. Matching hardwood went throughout, all the doors and trim were replaced, the kitchen was taken down to the studs and all three bathrooms got redone. We kept the original fireplace and refinished it instead of ripping it out. That ended up being one of my favorite decisions because the house still has some of its old personality.
I had one non negotiable with the kitchen: I wanted a massive island. We ended up doing almost 11 feet with seating on one side, storage on the other, and the microwave tucked underneath. Went with painted cabinets around the walls and walnut for the island so everything wasn’t one color. I probably spent way too long choosing the countertop, but the quartzite was worth it. This kitchen gets USED and still looks amazing.
