“Recently I came into this practice as a new patient,presenting with a mysterious, extremely painful, itching rash. I admit that I was initially dissatisfied with the practice, but I have completely changed my mind, and now definitely recommend this practice, and Dr. Dr Luca. Here is my story:
I initially saw one of the Physicians Assistants, who determined I had falluculitis, inflamed hair follicles from the heat. The rash was not severe at this point, although it was quite itchy, the red pimple like bumps would just pop out and start itching, turning into bleeding scabs ( very attractive)! She prescribed an antibiotic lotion that I used for 2 weeks, but I saw no improvement, so I went back and saw one of the physicians, who, based upon the appearance of the rash diagnosed a condition that produced these bumps due to an overactive immune response. I was prescribed both a heavy duty steroid cream and a second cream that suppresses the immune system. Rash got increasingly worse, now it's not just on my shoulders and back, it's on my face and neck.
Went back again, and was told, which I understand, that many rashes are similar in appearance and may take a while to determine. I just happened to mention that my only pet, a house cat, had been struggling since mid- March with severe itching, hair loss and skin infection leading to a vicious cycle, and even potent steroids and cyclosporine had not helped him at all. My vet had a one track mind and insisted my cat was having severe seasonal allergies, and steroids were the right treatment...we even consulted with an actual dermatology practice in Scottsdale, and the vet there, after a 10 second feel of my cat's head and neck, which was covered with scabs, thought that it was an allergy problem. They were both wrong, and the potent steroids were doing nothing for him, which doesn't make any sense; steroids actually make it all worse.
Well, after learning about my poor kitty's problem, upon my third visit, I was told that I had contracted a skin mite infestation from my cat. I had asked my vet about this possibility, but she dismissed the idea. I had suspected this diagnosis, but it fell on deaf ears. Please note my cats issue started a week after he was hospitalized for major dental surgery, and I felt that he picked up the mites at that time from a contaminated source there.
Well this past Saturday, my itching and pain literally became intolerable, so I called the after hours on call physician, Dr DeLuca. She told me she was familiar with my case and also determined I had a mite infestation and put me on oral ivermectin but also said my cat had to be treated with this same med concurrently with me so there was no re- contamination. When I told her my cat had one injection of this med last month, she said it didn't work because it takes 2-3 doses of the medicine to kill not only existing mites, but new hatchlings and the debris they leave under the skin. THIS ALL MADE PERFECT SENSE AND I FELT THERE WAS A LIGHT AT THE END OF THE TUNNEL. Folks, after only 24 hours all my pain and skin soreness is gone, and the itching is much much better!
Dr DeLuca was amazing in her knowledge and perception of the problem. SHE IS AMAZING and a real credit to her profession! Now all I have to do tomorrow is explain this to my vet and start my cat on 2-3 doses of the medicine ( sure hope she doesn't give me any trouble about it). Not too many providers have the expertise to make the connection with humans and pets, but Dr DeLuca did an outstanding job ( as well as Dr Bengson who initially diagnosed mites), and I'm on the road to recovery. I give the practice 5+ stars.”
