Open 24 today
501 2nd Ave, Opelika“Overall, it's a nice gym. My only constructive feedback would be that some of the equipment needs some maintenance. Torn seats, especially on the leg extension. Several of the accessories for the cable system need new grips/ handles. Also, it's pretty hot in there, especially for a gym. There's two giant fans in the ceiling that are never on. Those things should be running 24/7.“

“Joining Metrics has been one of the best things I've done since moving to the Auburn/Opelika area.
I attend two semi-private sessions a week. These sessions are typically capped at eight people, and feature a variety of guided exercises that you cycle through over the course of an hour.
Ike, Metrics's owner, is a great facilitator for these sessions. He's incredibly attentive, pointing out areas for improvement as you work out, or adjusting weights on the exercise equipment as necessary. One of the most impressive aspects of Ike's guidance is his ability to adapt to each individual's needs. One of my ankles is particularly weak, and he always remembers to give me alternate instructions for exercises that would put too much strain on that ankle. He does this for each session attendee, demonstrating a real attention to detail, as well as his talent for helping each client based on their own needs. This results in a workout experience that feels personalized despite the fact that you're in a small group.
Ike is also very knowledgable about human physiology, and has answered several questions I've had about various aches and pains I've experienced. Last year, I had persistent back pain, and when I asked Ike about it, he recommended some muscle releases that did alleviate the pain I was feeling. Perhaps more importantly, he gave me an understanding of why and how those releases addressed muscle imbalances that were the result of poor posture and the cumulative injury cycle. Ike has a keen awareness of the ways in which muscle groups are interconnected, and this knowledge is the foundation of all the exercises that he brings to the sessions. In addition to the beginning of each workout, which features myofascial releases of several muscles, Ike pays close attention to one's posture as they work out in order to reduce overuse or overemphasis of muscles. This focus has led me to pay more attention to my own posture and movement as I've become more familiar with the underlying philosophy of his work.
The social aspect of the sessions is another highlight. Ike is a personable guy, and fun to talk to. He's a good conversationalist, and takes a real interest in whatever you discuss. Outside of Ike, the other members are also incredibly warm and friendly. I genuinely look forward to seeing friends on the days that I work out. While there are clients of all different fitness levels, there is no elitism or judgment among any of the members; in fact, I've frequently gotten helpful advice from the more experienced members, and provided it to others in turn. Ultimately, I do think of Metrics as one of the social communities I've become a part of since I moved here.
I highly recommend Metrics to anyone who might be interested in starting to take their health more seriously. If you're like me, who has always hated working out, or feel nervous about the social dynamics of working out around others, know that Ike intentionally makes joining a session as accessible as possible.“
