“About four years ago I moved into a home that came with some lovely surprises, including a fully fenced in backyard, a walk in closet in the master bedroom and a million little sugar ants that swarm the kitchen, dining room and front entrance each spring. For the first few years I tried handling them myself, buying the spray from Home Depot and spritzing the perimeter of my home as I scoffed at them scurrying around my kitchen: "they're just ants! How hard could it possibly be to get rid of them?"...Okay, well now I know. It is DAMNED hard to get rid of them. Especially if you don't know how long they've been there (possibly forever, since before time began). These guys are STUBBORN. Google it if you don't believe me - I tried everything and was at my wit's end. Cinnamon, chili pepper, the aforementioned sprays, peppermint, cleaning my counters with vinegar, keeping everything sparkling clean - I don't know if I just have a particularly stubborn type of ant but they would always retreat for a few days only to REAPPEAR. (It was like a horror movie, where you think you've thrown the bad guy into the pit only to find him hanging out in your closet at home the next night.)Out of utter desperation I signed up with Insight (I reasoned that surely they'd be better at this than me) for their yearly service (they come out every 3 months or so and spray your home), with a promise to return for free anytime I see things with more than 4 legs in my house.Fast forward three months and I've had Insight out three times (so the service has basically already paid for itself). Now don't get me wrong - I'm not saying Insight did a bad job and somehow was leaving ants in my home. I've definitely noticed a decrease in the number of bugs I see. The problem is that there's no way to know how many nests these ants have (probably a lot, since I wandered over to my next door neighbor's driveway one day and saw the ground literally swarming with them). Again, you can google this but the basic gist is ants are smart and once they sense danger (ie. you're spraying them with poison) they GTFO, possibly breaking their nest up into smaller nests (if they think you're dangerous enough). So they're very difficult to get rid of, and the only way is to be persistent and poison the bajesus out of them.Overall I've definitely noticed a decrease in the number of ants I see, but the owner Matt was adamant: if you see an ant after our initial spray, call us! So I do. I honestly feel that even though we're still seeing a few ants here and there, they are scattered and dwindling. I believe that in time, Insight will emerge completely victorious and I will wake up one morning and realize I've gone the entire year without seeing an ant traipsing around my kitchen counter like it owns the place. That will be a joyful day in my house, indeed. Until then, I will continue to rely on Insight to bait, spray and poison these suckers out of existence (or at least my house).“
