““What a Turnaround” -- I barely ever write reviews, but my wife and I felt Real Life Dental in Roanoke deserved a 5-star review for what has honestly been an incredible comeback.

We were here in December 2025, and at that time the office was a complete mess. The front desk was disorganized and unprofessional, we dealt with last-minute cancellations and constant rescheduling, and the assistants did not inspire much confidence either. The only doctor there seemed completely overwhelmed by the chaos around them. From a patient’s perspective, the whole operation felt poorly managed, frustrating, and nowhere near the standard you would expect from a professional dental office. We left with such a bad impression that we seriously questioned whether we would ever come back.

Fast forward to July 2026, and it feels like a completely different place. The disorganized team from last year is gone, and that change appears to have made a huge difference. The current front desk and assistants are much more professional, organized, and pleasant to deal with, and the new doc, Dr. Chow, has been excellent—extremely attentive, patient, thorough, and refreshingly conservative about treatment. We really appreciate that Dr. Chow does not seem interested in overtreating or overbilling and instead focuses on what the patient actually needs. We also have relatives in Blacksburg who have had good experiences with Real Life Dental there, so it is great to finally see the Roanoke office living up to that standard. Credit where credit is due: management, the current staff, and Dr. Chow have pulled off one of the most impressive turnarounds we have seen. Thank you for cleaning up the mess left by the previous team and making this office somewhere we can actually recommend. Nevertheless, we sincerely hope the old way of running this location stays in the past forever.

“Been getting our teeth cleaned twice a year, which has been covered by Dental delta for the last couple of years until our last visit. With no advance warning, we received a bill for over $120.00 for the last cleaning. Called the office and was told they no longer accept our Delta Insurance. While they reduced the bill by 50%, it would have be nice if told of the change before hand. If known beforehand, would of found another dental office that accepts our insurance.

Edit-11/13/2025- received a call this morning apologizing on the lack of notice on the Delta Insurance change and issued a reimbursement for the charge. Was told that they do accept Delta Premier, but the fed delta plan does not provide that level and going directly to Delta is cost prohibitive for us. Was hoping to be able to get back to Dr Tates practice, which is great for the services provided, thus changed our rating to 5 stars.“

“I broke a tooth Saturday morning. This morning (Monday) I called my dentist and he determined that I needed an oral surgeon. Aspen saw me same day (I was hurting!) and scheduled the extraction and implant for tomorrow (Tuesday!). Very accommodating staff and doctor.“
