Dr. Daniel J. Broza, O.D. Optometrists

“I was overdue for an exam and needed new glasses and went to Dr Broza after finding he was near Costco. It was efficient and professional but most importantly Dr Broza warned me about what he was seeing and asked me, in his urgent but low-key way, to see an ophthalmologist. Thank goodness - turns out I had early glaucoma in both eyes. The Oph said it was barely in the nick of time.“

“So here’s an interesting story that some of you out there need to read!! I’ve lived a pretty physical life, working on building custom homes and even some commercial building, owning my construction company, even be in the military doing two of the most physically demanding jobs. Working out to stay physically fit, skiing in the winter, waterskiing in the summer. Anyway I’ll get to the point, I just found out that I’m like .01% of adults in the US to have this issue go unseen, untreated and even mis diagnosed. I have a heart condition with my aortic valve, most humans are born with a Tricuspid valve meaning three flaps that basically works like a check valve that allows flow of blood in one direction, Well I born with what is called a Bicuspid valve meaning two, now to add to that everyone is born with a hole in your heart at birth that normally closes but one in three adults that hole never closes fully, or not at all. Yes wouldn’t you know it, I’m one of those individuals that, that hole never closed. Both of these things could have at any time been the silent thing that could have Killed me, both issues are very serious AND NO DOCTOR EVER NOTICED THIS in my entire life!!!!
At the age of 53 years old as a normal annual check up for my eyes, I’ve been having these really weird blind spots in my eyes now for several years and no optometrist could explain anything possible going on until this past February when this optometrist (Doctor Kind) explained that there might be something going on but at that point she didn’t see anything however she wanted to report to my PCM, were he in return referred me to a cardiothoracic specialist to find out that not only did I have those two things mentioned but to add to that finding out that there was apparently two other things of concern. One was the fact that I had been ignoring my body and those blind spots in my eyes which seemed to just go away after a few minutes were in fact mini strokes, AND the aortic trunk line where the aortic valve sits was enlarged and narrowing because my heart was working twice if not, three times harder because of this bicuspid valve that has stenosis.
So what does this all mean, well one is that this optometrist basically has saved my life, and two now I am going to be scheduled for open heart surgery to correct these issues.
As this was long winded I wanted to let everyone I know don’t ignore your body, don’t write something off that is going on with you as normal, get checked out because you never know what could possibly save your life, Some heart diseases can be a silent killer.

I love each and every one of you that has been in my life, this is why I share my story. I can’t say it enough but thank you Doctor Kind. I wanted to tell her in person how grateful I am to her but I was told that they could only relay my message. You truly are an amazing person!!“
